My Enchanted Journals
Australia
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 3 ก.ค. 2022
Hi I’m Di, a middle age woman with my own TH-cam channel.
I’m making these videos so my grandchildren and great-grandchildren etc etc will know who I was and what I liked & thought about etc instead of looking at a flat photo, like I do, of my family tree & not knowing much more about the generations before me ❤️
I also make beautiful hand-made art journals as well using cardboard, fabric, lace, doilies, digitals, old books, old passports, tin cans, tea bags, leaves and flowers from nature and vintage ephemera including old plane tickets, wallpaper, bus tickets, baggage claim stubs........I think you get the idea!!
If that sounds like your kind of thing then I hope you’ll join me as I work from my home studio in the South West of Western Australia, an Aladdin's cave or depository of the enchanted as I like to call it in a gorgeous craft room.
I hope you're happy creating and making things too.
You are very welcome here ❤️
Hugs

I never had a diary. My mother gifted me one, but I only used it a few times. However, I find it very interesting that people keep a diary and write on it every day. This looks so beautiful. I love the fabrics you included and the secret places. And, of course, that cover is gorgeous ♥️🩷💜💙💛🩶🩵🤎💚🧡❤️
@@alexandraalmeida3661 thank you so much. I kept a diary but my mother was always trying to find it! 😂 the journal sold within hours! It’s off to America 🇺🇸
Dear Diary…….do you remember having a diary and all the teenage angst that went in to it? I certainly do 😂😂😂 I hope you enjoy this video, it’s a little bit different! Hugs xx
As Alexandra, i didn't know those books had a name. I have one for quotes (but not organise by theme) and one where i take notes and write my comments while reading educationnal books. I tend to remember things easier when I write them down. But I never put anything else than writing. When I want to illustrate a quote, I do it in a separate journal. hugs
@@isabellebernard7876 very interesting, Isabelle. Some of mine have no photos, I guess it is always the things I write about family that I use photos for as I still sort through the emotions I carry, thank you for always commenting and being part of my journey ❤️
Hello...yes I have a commonplace book. My very 1st one that I created this year. Since I had a lot of thoughts and ideas about papercrafts and journaling I needed a place to put all of them. Plus I have an inquiring mind. If I don't know something I google to find the answers. I write it down. I also learned how to make an index at the back of the book. I numbered all the pages, then using a handful of pgs. At the back, wrote the alphabet, then just write a word or two to describe the entry and the page #. It's fun! I found I had been writing notes all over the place and didn't like that!! Lol
@@LindaK-z6i thanks Linda 😊 I know a lot of people have an index, I might try that on my next book, I haven’t needed it so far but I’m always willing to try something new, thank you so much for leaving me a comment ❤️
Really enjoyed this . Thank you for explaining what a commonplace book is. I like the idea 😊
@@KellyC77 hi Kelly, yes I love the idea of them as they’re just a bit different to a normal journal in that all the information is the same subject, whereas my journals just have whatever in them. Let me know if you start one! Take care ❤️
I have so many commonplace books, some with poems, some on houses I have lived in, others on dogs I have had and what they got up to! What do you keep in your commonplace books?
I enjoyed this video….i keep a commonplace book also! But mine includes every topic under the sun! I’m going to take a look at the idea sheet you mention. Thanks.
@@kimberlycook5860 so you keep all the ideas in one book, Kimberly? Yes, go on over to ko-fi for the free download, take care ❤️
Only recently did I realize that these kind of books had a name. I don’t know the name in my own language (I think we would simply call it a notebook), but I find the name in English fascinating. I’ve always kept one since I was a teenager. I write quotes mainly and I embellish mine with collage of beautiful images (flowers, the ocean, shells) but I also include family photos like you do. I find that comforts me when I open my book. I have a special pen, it’s a very cheap one, but it has to be black. I loved to have seen your books ♥️🩵🧡💙🤎💚💛🩶💜🩷❤️
@@alexandraalmeida3661 interesting! Thanks for sharing that, Alexandra. I have kept different ones for ages, some have personal poems etc in some of them so I didn’t show them here but I do find them a great marker in time when I go back through them as to what I was thinking at that time, thanks for sharing your thoughts I really appreciate that ❤️

@@KellyC77 hi Kelly, yes, I was born in England, came to Oz as a child, went back to Scotland and ran a B&B and always felt so at home there, like it’s my spiritual home 🤷🏻♀️ Then I did my family tree and guess what, way back in the 1700’s our family was Scottish! So there you go, always trust your intuition, it’s usually right in my case. Loch Ness and Loch Lomond are absolutely stunning, enjoy! 🏴

Just watch the speed with which the train doors shut. I got on, and they shut before my husband could v get on. No phone contact, so I just got off at the next stop and crossed my fingers. When the next train arrived, he was at the door, and random people were waving at me. He must have told the passengers what had happened. It is funny how 10 years later, but not at the time😂

Oh my, you sound like you are telling my story.
At the beginning of my craft journey I also tended to buy the beautiful papers, this or that paint/pen/ stamp.... Now I'm moderating (?) myself, trying to imagine how I will use it. 'this stamp is beautiful ok, but will I use it more than once?'. If I'm not sure of the answer I don't buy it. For the paper, it's more difficult as I have a passion for beautiful notebooks and papers (Stamperia <3 ). But I don't have much space so it helps. ^^ So nice to see Buddy!!! big hugs to you three!
@@isabellebernard7876 thanks Isabelle, I have not bought anything since my holiday and I will take your advice here about whether I will use it more than once, good idea 👍🏻 hope you’re well, take care ❤️
Definitely not just you! I find that I destash, I have a couple months. Teaching a class helps. Because I don't feel like i'm wasting it.I just bring it to class, and we use it there. The only places in my house that are cluttered are my art areas. 😅

@myenchantedjournals you're quite welcome. And thank you for inspiring me to deatash a bit today too. So many treasures.
@ go for it! Just remember there’s more stuff out there!!! ❤️
Well I am a newbie so I don’t have a large stash of anything. I also have very limited space. I am thinking that what you saved a long time ago maybe isn’t your style now? I need an “ organized” mess to be able to create anything. Good luck with the rest of your craft room!
@@normaschurman2202 thanks Norma, that is exactly the case. When you start journaling you like one style then you get your own style and sometimes it just blocks you to keep it! Most of the discarded stuff was old magazines, ripped out pages of books etc. it was just all too much. Thanks for taking the time to comment, I really appreciate it ❤️
You’re NOT a hoarder! I’m exactly like you: my house is immaculate, well organized, not a shred of clutter, everything in its place, BUT my craft room is… well… a bit of a mess… ok, let me be honest: it’s a mess! It seems my craft room belongs to a different house and to a different person. So, two conclusions: if you’re that organized like me in the rest of your house, you need a kind of “escape”, where you can be totally messy and chaotic and free and a bit crazy too; second, as artists, we tend to collect everything related to art supplies that we like, so it’s absolutely normal to have things we later don’t use. It’s even possible to find things after some months and think: “did I buy this? Is this actually mine?”😂 Don’t worry, I’m pretty sure that all artists are like that and I know for a fact that many don’t keep their home as organized as we do, so we’re in an advantage here!😂 I have to clean up my craft room every now and then otherwise I feel overwhelmed, because I’m a bit of a minimalist and I don’t like to have what I don’t need or use. Exactly like my clothes, if I don’t wear them, I have to donate them, or I go crazy 😂 So, you’re not alone, I’m sure and rest assured: all artists are seen as a bit insane, because most people are used to what the majority does and tend to judge the minority. There’s a quote from Nietzsche that says the following: “And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who couldn’t hear the music”! Remember, Di, most people can’t hear the music 🎶 💙❤️💜🩵💚🤎💛🩷🩶🧡♥️ Sorry for the long message 🤭🙏🏻
@@alexandraalmeida3661 this message is brilliant, Alexandra! Thank you 🙏🏻 it made me feel so much better. My house is so tidy everywhere but my craft room…. Sheeeesh 🙈🙈🙈😂😂😂 and yes, it looks like my craft room belongs to a different house!!! It’s so funny, you totally get it and understand what I meant. I just seemed to collect and collect but instead of inspiring it blocked me! Anyway, a good old cleanup is good for the soul and yes, I do the same with my clothes too. Take care and thanks as always for leaving me a comment ❤️
I think it's a weakness of artistic, creative people who also thrift!! We can't pass up a bargain and want all the things for our craft. It's also a process to organize and sort thru what we may not use or want to keep anymore . And usually getting started is the hardest part!! It got overwhelming for me when I had several deaths in the family, had to go thru my parents home to sell, and "inherited" even more. Thanks for inspiring, motivating and encouraging us all to go thru our craft room and limit, purge, whatever so we can actually focus on the creating!!!! We all need it if we are honest!!❤
@ hi Carla, thanks for sharing your story here, it helps others too. I’m the same, my mum bought down all the letters my grandparents sent each other during WWII & I was like “fantastic” but it just feels like a burden of what to do with them, I know my kids don’t want them 🤷🏻♀️ they really tell a story but us anyone interested any more? If pagds are bit thin do you glue some yogether
@@jeanettereynolds3151 absolutely! Sometimes even 3….just play around with it, don’t be afraid to just try something, let’s face it, it’s a 2nd hand book, if it studs up, rip that page out, it all adds to the look of the journal ❤️
This is part 1 of 2 Paris flea market videos I’ll be putting up. I had so much fun finding vintage ephemera for my journals and other great finds. Look out for the next flea market video next week ❤ Let me know if you’ve been to the Paris flea markets in the comments and what you found 😉
So coo! Thank you for sharing!
@@barbkniess3985 hi Barb! Thanks so much, it was great fun. Part 2 at another market is coming next week ❤️
What a beautiful time you share with us, thank you. Enjoy the rest of your trip. By the way, I hope you brought more than 1 "passport"?
@@annevancingel8250 thanks, Anne. We had a wonderful time and yes, I took my journal passport and my actual passport 😂😂😂
So nice to see your wanderings in Saint Ouen. But the prices..... I love the icon!!
@@isabellebernard7876 yes, the prices were high, a lot of curated shops with dealers there & I know a lot of designers purchase there too! I’m doing the flea market at Montreuil video for next week then I’ll do one when we met up!!! I have sooooo much footage 😂😂😂
@@myenchantedjournals because Paris is the best city ^^
@@isabellebernard7876 absolutely!
Beautiful, beautiful treasures! I love old postcards. My mother had lots of them, but for some unfortunate reasons I couldn’t keep them. I also loved the religious pieces. Fortunately these ones I have, they belonged to my grandmothers, they both had crosses, rosaries and little pocket shrines that are now mine. I wish I had those flea markets where I live ❤️💙💚🤎🩵💜🧡🩷🩶💛♥️
@@alexandraalmeida3661 the postcards are so lovely, Alexandra. They are almost too good to use I just love looking at them, like small pieces of art. The shrines and crosses are stunning, so much work has gone in to them. There was so much to look at but unfortunately some prices were very high, especially for textiles as a lot of dealers go there for clients now. Next week is my Paris Montreil flea market video, the prices were a lot cheaper there! ❤️
Love all your finds! Great market but prices were high!
@@kimberlycook5860 they sure were, Kimberly. The textiles seem to have 1 price- £100!!! Too pricey for me, I was more the £1 postcard type! Thanks for leaving me a comment ❤️
Loved the tour of the market and what you purchased. I was in France last year ( from Canada) , went to some food markets but not a flea market.
@@normaschurman2202 thanks Norma. It was fascinating. This one was expensive as dealers go there for rich clients unfortunately so next week I have the Paris Montreuil flea market video which will show you a true flea market and what I found so please tune in for that, take care ❤️
Wow! Loved the nosey round the market with you. And the bits you bought are fab 🥰 enjoy using it all 😊
@@buttonsforbrains will do, thanks so much Liz. I have another Paris flea market for next week too ❤️
