08-14 WRX/ STI Rear Differential Reseal
Whats up everyone, Today we are going to be working on our 6 speed swapped 2013 WRX. We are going to be resealing the rear diff as this wasn't done when we did the 6 speed swap and we noticed that there was a bit of leaking happening towards the rear of the diff. We changed the rear diff cover seal, the 2 axles input seals, orings, and the plastic vent.

do you have trouble with speedo not working after manual swapping? i have a 95 240sx that was manual swapped by another person before i purchased it. car is fine overall except that issue.
No issue with the speedo, If you are having issues, i would check the sensor, wiring or cluster. When we did the swap we put a new sensor.
Are you going to do an install video? Would be great since I don’t think anyone has one yet.
how did you put the notch into the caliper?
I used a dremel with a carbide bit or if you have access to a CNC machine.
You have a link ?
a.co/d/hige3hC heres a similar item on amazon, but you can probably find it on ebay or aliexpress for less.
Me: “I could probably do this” You: “I’m going to lower the transmission to get access” Me: 😑
Cool
You use the same front adapter for the rear?
They are not the same.
Where do I get the leds?
music annoying as hell…. cant even hear what you are saying 👎
Didn't even show cluster light up or nothing 🤦
Where did you get your clips from to reinstall the wheel well plastic? I checked amazon but dont know what to get
Your method for removing the pin at 0:37 looks far easier than using a hammer and a punch as was shown in other videos! I ended up using fuel line pliers instead of needle nose pliers to remove the pin and it worked great.
So do I need ecu #30 or was #30 old ecu?
I dont remember off the top of my head, but i believe you need to get the one that matches with your corresponding car year, IE if you have a 97, get a 97 ecu. A quick google search may also help.
Doesn't the kit come with an additional hanger mounting bracket. Did not see that on the video.
It does not. It reuses all the OE exhaust hangers.
Where can this bracket kit be bought??
There is quite a few different ones out there but install is about the same. You can google "z32 to z34 akebono brake upgrade"
I didn't understand you taking out the Springs. Did you swap him out with a different product? Or did you just put the same ones on again? It really wasn't explained fully of what you did
I took them off to clean off camera. Depending on your spring stiffness and length you may need to switch them to shorter main springs and or add helper springs (which i already have). This all depends on how much compression/ droop your cars has. For me, the helper spring give me about 2 inches of droop so that the cups can push the dampener back up when the car is on the ground. Hope that helps.
What size rim clears the calipers.. i have a31 which same as s13 platformi have all set up for z32 brake update but didnt get rotors yet. If z32 front brake 30mm clears my 15x7 +20mm te37 replica wheels then ill keep z300 rotors if it doesnt then i wanna go with akebono rotors from 370z nismo
I have 18in wheels. Clears perfectly. Wouldn't recommend anything smaller.
Thanks a lot for posting! This is what I am looking for all the time!😊
Glad it was helpful!
So glad I found this doing this to my s14
What specs are the wheels?
18x 9.5+22 front and 18x10.5+15 rear
@@tougelab3996I know you also had to trim a piece off the calipers for the rear what exactly did you use to notch it?
How do you hook up the Clutch safety switch. On the automatic wireless for Manual.
We did not wire the safety switch as this is part of the body harness.
What is your experience on it? Does it drone, say in the low gear? Thank you 😊
The cold start is loud but its not bad once warmed up. Drone is minimal
@@tougelab3996 could you pls post a video? Much appreciated!
I just got a 5 lug, it sits stock height, I was hoping to avoid lifting. Do you think I’d be able to put 30s on without a lift?
You will probably need to. Clearance for the front sway bar maybe an issue as well.
@@tougelab3996 as far as a lift goes, should a 2 inch level kit get the job done or do you think i need an actual lift? Thanks for replying! havent been able to find any info on this anywhere
sorry additional question, do you think the spacers are necessary as well as a lift in order to clear the front sway bar? im only planning on going 30s, not 31s
Is there no room to mount the adapter to the hub by feeding the lower bolt from the backside to avoid notching the caliper? Or not enough thread engagement? At 3:27 it doesn’t look like the bolt where you notched the caliper protrudes all the way back on the backside so maybe possible or not at all?
Also what brake booster/ master cylinder combo did you go with?
The threads are on the adapter and there are no threads on the factory ears of the knuckles, So no. If you were to do it your way, you would still need a nut on the other side to received the bolt, which means you still need to notch it. Not to mention you will have to get the exact size bolt so that it wont protrude out and hit the rotor.
You can reuse what you have. We already had the chase bay booster delete kit, so we reused it.
when putting in the aircups how many millimeters do you bring the springs down? do you account for the max lift height or do you just lower as much as possible then set the preload of the springs with the air cups installed before installing on the car?
It depends on your application so its hard to say for your case. Things to consider: 1. How much does your spring compress when the car is on the ground. 2. Do you have helper springs? 3. The aircups are limited to the amount of droop you have and of course the max lift the cups have. So if you only have 20mm droop and the cups max lift is 40mm you will only lift the car 20mm, the rest of the cup lift will just compress your spring. In our case, we have the helper spring the allows for most if not all of the droop. So the helper spring allows for about 40mm droop and is one of the main reasons why we added this so the main spring compression would not be a factor for us in terms of how much it lifts the car. The helper spring and extra droop also helps to keep tire contact on the track.
What brakes lines did you use ?
You can reuse your stock or aftermarket braided lines for the 240sx or z32. You will need to get the akebono banjo nut as the 370z sports brakes uses a different length.
Could you provide info on what adapters you used, and what rear brake rotors you used? Does it retain the Z32 rear drum brake setup for the hand brake?
We used 370z Sport rear rotors, you use the z32 e bake setup.
@touge lab did you keep the factory s13 brake master cylinder size?
Hello, We have the chasebay booster delete kit.
I’m currently building my s14 and can’t find anything for the front control arm
P2M NISSAN S14 FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARM
Hey what is the brands that you got everything from?
Please check video description
I was wondering what would would I need to run these calipers on my s14? Homie gave me the calipers but now I need to know what I would need to actually use them lol. Take in mind I have the stock s14 calipers .
Rotors, calipers, and banjo bolt for 370z Sport, and Adapters for the car. Some trimming maybe needed for the caliper.
Think you could add links in the description to the pressure tester and funnel adapter you used?
I cant recall which one we used be it was on amazon
What kind of grease did you use for the shifter cup
valvoline multi vehicle grease
Can i lower my car if i droop my spring and add the helper?
Yes it will lower the whole coilover about 40mm but that is not what they are intended for.
How was the fitment of the rotor on the hub? I have a 92 Nissan Silvia s13 and having been looking into a 5lug swap and brake upgrade. The 300zx calipers are hard to find in my area . Was thinking 370z would be much easier for sourcing parts !
Rotor and hubs are plug and play. You will need a min. of 18in wheels to clear the brakes and rotors.
@tougelab3996 what's the lowest offset you fit without having to go negative camber?
Brought mine few weeks ago and tried to install them but my 180sx wiring loob does not fit on digital cluster what model should i use for it ?
The sub harness is different and you need the HUD specific harness.
@@tougelab3996 where can i get this harness??
Is this the wiring specialties auto to manual conversion harness? or the wiring specialties MT trans harness?
We used the auto to manual harness.
Was that clinging noise the brake cable rubbing the driveshaft because mine is doing the same noise
There should be m6 x 1 threads on the subframe where you can bolt down the cable. If not you can also use some cable ties to tie it off to the side. I Initially had the cable rubbing, until i noticed and mounted it off to the side as well.
@@tougelab3996 i ended up just adjusting the gktech bracket forward pulling the cables making it have more tension/less sag so it doesn't rub
Videos in this format are best. Only downside is cam angle remains the same and we cant dee what you arr actually doing. But your description is enough for a monkey like me to do this
where to get an air compressor
Looking good. How's the material working out for you so far? What is the thickness of the alumalite? By chance you have a template of the rear diffuser I can buy off from you?
It works great we used 10mm corrugated, but can probably use 3mm. Unfortunately i dont have a template to sell you.
Can you share the plans or a drawing of the dimensions of the diffuser?@@tougelab3996
Fitment has improved over the years… I got the first batch of this YEARS ago and fitment was nowhere close to yours 👌🏼
Wow fitment seems great 👍🏼
t this just a two drive? Not even a Pre-runner?
Did yours leak from the cap? I bought the same one and it’s leaking.
It's intentional. It"s met to let air out. You may have overfilled it (happened to us the first time). When bleeding it with the car running , we keep it topped off half way to two thirds full. Reason being, when the car is off and or when you turn the wheels with the car off the excess fluid fills back the revisor.
@@tougelab3996 did you top up until the little hole was filled? or just before it.
Nice work 👍
Timing belts, gotta love em! 😀👍
Thanks for making and uploading your videos. What happened to this car? Was it used as a track car? (Haven't watched all your video's yet)
Ended up selling the car to focus on other projects.
@@tougelab3996 👍
Just curious, why didn’t you get a shorter linear spring to account for the increase in total spring height adding the helper?
To raise the cars heights the air cups push onto the spring. If there isn't enough shock length for the cup to move it will just compress the spring. To Follow us on IG: @TogueLab this, we decided to get helper spring that stay compressed when the suspension is loaded. This allows for droop in the shock for the air cup to expand. A shorter spring would work, but we would still need the helper spring to create the "droop" while keeping the main spring compressed. Another route you can go is to also get a softer spring that will compress 2in or so while loaded. On our car there isnt very much droop to begin with as we opted of higher spring rates for track application. Heres a helpful link: www.stanceparts.com/fitment/
