2023 AlumaCraft Competitor FSX 185 (One Year Review & Walkthrough)
Decided to do a review and walkthrough vid of my boat that we purchased for last summer. It’s a 2023 Alumacraft Competitor FSX 185 with a 150 Yamaha. In the video I show you the features of the boat, things that I did or put into it… as well as list pros and cons of boat itself. Hope you enjoy!

Neck meat is tastiest meat on Crappie and bass. Fillet guys are throwing out the best tasting meat.
That’s mean you have to take the whole sumit unit back home and charge? With the original livescope Ice bundle I just need to take the battery out and bring home to charge without taking the whole unit 😢
@@CRAPPIE168 idk what you mean exactly? I think it’s convenient to just plug into the front of the shuttle and charge it.
Where did you get the extra or different blade you used from

What yall using slip bobber or jig?
@@StevenDechert jig… 3/16 Ned rig with crush city BLT to be exact. Black Ned rig head and the plastic was natural looking one.
@@JMonOutdoors nice I use slip bobber
@@StevenDechert sweet, multiple ways definitely work for walleye, depending where you set up and what time… I rarely use slip bobber. Only caught one walleye off one all summer… mostly use jigs
@@JMonOutdoors I use slip bobbers with a leach

This boat has me dreaming! You added some great things too it as well. Love the floor mats and definitely want to get them on my future boat.
It all starts with a dream and then a plan/goal. Never thought I was going to be able to get a brand new boat yet… but some planning and goal making made it happen. Thanks for watching and the compliments 👍🏼🤙🏼
WHO KEEPS GETTING SUNFISH🥲🙋
When you’re not targeting them?! Cuz that happened to me tonight lol
@@JMonOutdoors yea there is soooooooo much in the lake at my cotage
@@Axolotlsss can be a battle for other fish then sometimes too.
Whenever I am going for bass catfish musky etc I always spend the day before catching sunfish and I usually catch about 150-200 but I only keep 20 perfect size for live bait and any over 10 inches for cut

My worst enemy fish with bread for grass carp💀
I went and bought a ultralight combo today and bought some lures to use in particular trout slayer crawl dads and caught some blues and sunnies
Never used that before… I usually use slip bobber with 1/16th oz jig tipped with leech.
Have never seen a bluegill that huge, wow.
It’s a beautiful fish, but definitely have caught bigger bluegills than that one. I feel it’s important to release the big males and keep them in the lake, then you can keep going to those spots and enjoying them for years and years to come.

yes indeed when you forgot you had a small catfish octopus hook and catch an absolute monster pancake
I have never used octopus hooks for panfish, cuz I always worry about them swallowing the hook. Have done well with 1/16th oz VMC moon eye jigs tipped with leech.
@@JMonOutdoors I put one on hoping for a bass but got a very good hook set on a mondo bluegill
Panfish are different from sunfish literally everyone likes sunfish but not everyone likes panfish
But, Panfish is a collective term referring to any small freshwater fish species that typically fit in a pan including, but not limited to, black crappie, white perch, yellow perch, bluegill, and pumpkinseed. So, I agree with your statement cuz I don’t like eating pumpkinseeds or rock bass or fish of those caliber lol
@@JMonOutdoors yeah I think people think sunfish are just bluegill green sunfish anything like that but sunfish refers to many other things like bass is one I don’t think some people realize
@@TheGoldFishEmpire you’re probably correct on that… I love catching most of them though, but nothing like Bluegill and Black Crappie to me!
@@JMonOutdoorsrock bass always have worms from my experience
@@Cookiebird606SS yeah, same with pumpkinseeds. I know ppl that eat both and say they fry out haha. But, to each their own, I’m not THAT hungry 😅
Me I love panfish!
Me too! So fun to catch… and big bluegills on ultralight gear are such an exciting battle 😊
Croppe look like if a bass and a bluegill had a baby🤑🤑🤑
@@Random_eDiTz-tz5op lol yeah I guess I can see the resemblance 😅
Jeremy, when speaking about the ACC switch - you are saying there is a pre-run wire from factory up to the front which you used for the heading sensor? Or did you run the wire? Again great video thanks!
Sorry… there was a pre run wire to the front from the ACC switch. It was actually sticking out from the front “wall” of the bow, but we pulled it back through and used it for the puck or heading sensor. Thanks for watching, appreciate it 👍🏼. Hopefully it helps.
Looking clean JMon
Thank you! I take pride in 🧼 😁
Gosh! That boat is clean, spotless!
Lol, thanks! I take pride in keeping it clean… sometimes a little too much 😂. But man, it looks and feels so much nicer when it is!
What horsepower on that aluminum boat?
It has a 150 on it… max would be 175 for this boat. But, the 150, to me, has plenty of power for this boat… I came from a 14 foot, 10 HP tiller haha. I can get 48-49 mph when by myself. 46 mph when I have passengers.
This thing.... I used it once for like 10 minutes and when I needed it most I was trying to light the pilot for a half hour. Redundancy is key. I'll be attaching a long screw driver, alcohol wipes and q tips on the side for this B.S. Also another heater. 😅
Trust me, I know the feeling… also disclaimer, I think they might just struggle to work when it gets certain temp below zero… I try to keep in truck on way to lake so it doesn’t get too cold to light if it’s really freezing out. But, this cleaning the igniter method has helped me more than once so far. Good luck 😅
3/4” MDO plywood for the backing plates on the Hummingbirds. Really strong, plus water resistant. Overkill, really, but why worry if you don’t have to? Great video, Mons.
Thaaaaat’s what it’s called… thank youuuu 😊. Exactly… no worries and ease of mind when you have a little help from your friends 😉
I have probably first gen summit shuttle (aluminum). It does not have any of the accessories mounted (light, usb, or auxiliary switches, which I have purchased). It also doesn’t have the battery tray. You talk about talking to Jason (I think that’s his name)but I cannot find anywhere how to physically call summit fishing. Could you help with that? Thanks , enjoyed the video. Wished you would have had first gen to do… no installation info from summit ie..hole sizes for each component would be nice along w/wiring specs on switch. Thks again
First of all, thanks for the watch and comment. As for Jason, he no longer works for them or with them and is coming out with his own lineup of shuttles and poles (HD Innovations) is his new company name. He said to me that the earliest his new stuff would come out would be July, so we will see. I have seen pics of the new stuff and it looks to be of great quality. As for the older Summit stuff, sorry I can’t help you with that and have heard from others of the older shuttle being a mess and not fun to deal with haha. Maybe cut your losses and get newer shuttle or wait for Jason’s new stuff 😊. Hopefully you get something figured out tho 👍🏼
I have been using an actual transom saver mounted on trailer to lower unit 39 years on same boat . New boat 2023 Alumacraft Voyageur has a Shorelander custom trailer with a Shorelander transom saver . Dealer saying you may damage lower by using what was designed by factory is very questionable at best . Hydraulic saver is the correct term for what you have . It does nothing to take the load off transom . Nice rig you have .
Thanks for watching and your comment. It’s been a great experience so far for fishing.
Thanks for the video! I actually am in the process of buying the 175 version of his boat! Super excited!!
You’re going to love it… having a new boat is very exciting and even more so once you get used to using it… I was a little nervous at first lol
I have never heard of a transomer saver that goes down to the trailer causing lower unit damage..... Good video..
Well I never or he never said that it will do damage… he just made the point that you’re more likely to damage your lower unit using that style vs using my style and damaging your transom. Thanks for the comment and compliment… appreciate you watching 👍🏼
the trailer to lower unit type were actualy caving gear hosings in on mid to late 90s O.M.C LOWER UNITS!! if motor was in warranty they would not warranty if found that this style was in use!! they actually had a trailering support made on their larger motors( i have one been in 20 yrs no problems
@@robertbunnell5045 that is some info that I never heard before. But, good to know. Thanks for sharing and enlightening us with it 👍🏼
Jermey I was wondering what do you get for top speed with your 150 on that boat. Also I have a 2022 competitor and thinking about adding the back rest cushions that are on the front of your councils, do you know how they are attached?
My top speed is little over 48 mph. But like today, had good chop and my Dad and daughter in it on Mille Lacs and I was between 46-47 for top. But by myself on glass, can get close to 49. I’m pretty sure they are bolted or screwed on from backside but don’t know 100% cuz I have never seen the screws or bolts lol. They are nice to have tho.
Thanks for the feedback! I fish mille lacs a lot since I live close to the lake, if i happen to run into you on the lake I will stop and say hi!
@@chrisr1123 hey no problem… I just fished there yesterday! Don’t be afraid to say hi at all! Thanks for the chat 👍🏼
This video is the best, thanks! Exactly what I needed. I’ve been debating for the last month on either a lund impact or a fsx. I’ve heard from people that the fit and finish just isn’t comparable to Lund. Did you look into any lunds when buying? And what is your thought?
You’re welcome… thanks for compliment and for watching, I appreciate it! As for your questions, I think they are very comparable but have the exact same issues if any arise… so why spend that much more just for the name?! The buddy that rigged my battery and fuse box stuff, said he now likes the Alumacrafts better in comparison to the impact XS, thinks they are better built and value. I personally think they are very similar and like I said in the vid, bought my lithium batteries from Amped and my trolling motor… and then some… for the cost difference of Lund. I didn’t want to be forced to get Mercury either, wanted a Yamaha… also in comparison to Lund… you can get up to 175 HP for Alumacraft if you want and only to 150 for the Lund. Hope I answered what you wanted, but I love this stuff, so if you have more, don’t hesitate to ask. 👍🏼
I think the savings I’m looking at between the two is upwards of 8 grand with Alumacraft rebates right now. I got one more stupid question, if you don’t mind. Can you fit your tackle backed upright in a row in your drawers under the console? I noticed yours were stacked.
@@tylerturrell6846 holy moly. That would absolutely be a no brainer to me then! Alumacraft all the way! I guess I never tried but I’m thinking for the size that I have, doubtful, but if I can… I will let you know differently.
Thanks!! I appreciate all the info!
@@tylerturrell6846 no problem at all.. exactly why I wanted to do this video 😊
I just bought this knife not knowing about the blades this is awsome tho
Love the bubba, but not the blades so much! I always buy Mr Twister blades!
Nice! I haven't seen a bluegill that big in 40 years. We used to catch them all the time.
Love chasing after them… hard fighters and beautiful to look at and admire! Have heard people say that on some of the lakes I fish, how they “used to always catch big ones out there”, then they proceed to tell me how many 5 gallons buckets they used to keep out of it back in the day “all big”. I wonder what happened to them 🤔
Eat all day! Jk plenty of yellows. 😁
Lol 😂. I kept 10, but all the big males went back. 8 to 9 inch keepers are plenty big for keeping.
Crappie, not Croppie.
I just got a bubba for Christmas. Never used an electric fillet knife. Thanks for the video
It’s much faster in my opinion… I love using it! Hopefully it helps you become more confident, and remember you don’t have to go fast, start slow and keep the blade level.
Damn brother wiring looks so intimidating. I plan on getting same shuttle. Hope I don't criss wire anything. Lol
Well, you shouldn’t have to wire it yourself, most of that was pre wired… it looks more intimidating than what is, in my opinion! Thanks for watching and I think you’ll love the shuttle, much more portable!
That's funny I just caught a bass yesterday that was 18 inches and I see this video today😂
Haha that’s a great sized Bass 😉😅. Especially when targeting panfish and catch them by surprise, they really battle then!
This video was perfect. I use the heater for my greenhouse overnight and it worked great until recently and now I know why! I appreciate ya man!
Thanks for the compliment and comment! Very happy that it worked for you 😊
Congrats nice eye!!
Thank you! Hopefully more to come this open water season! Definitely going to try to make some vids for walleyes this season.
So awesome to get the kids involved in fishing there having a blast!!
Oh yeah, they love going fishing. I feel like starting them young as possible makes them more likely to keep going in the future! But also having patience and keeping it fun for them as a parent too.
Here is the perfect solution to the problem: 1. Turn off the knob, 2. Remove the propane bottle, 3. With thumb and fingers extended and joined place your left hand under the unit and with the right hand grab the handle, 4. Take the unit outdoors to expose it to the elements, 5. Open the garbage can and toss it in aggressively (be sure not to harm any children or animals and not harm the ozone or whales).
😂🤣🤣. Someone is expressing frustration with the Buddy Flex I see, I hear you… I’ve almost been to that point a couple times… especially the first time when I basically took the whole thing apart. But cleaning the igniter has helped me everytime now (knock on wood)
