This, obviously, is little more than a thinly veiled, and quite poor - if I do say so - attempt at politically motivated propoganda. Its thesis is unsupported by any coherant, or qualitative hypothesis - which, as presented, is highly speculative at best, not to mention largely historically irrelevant. The evidence, tho often not presented as such, ironically (amusingly) and completely unintentionally (likely to the complete oblivion of the author) actually does much more to refute the thesis - that Jan Janzsoon was never a "true" Muslim and thus the moniker "the Turk" is inappropriate and misleading in its presumptive proclivity to associate piracy conducted by forced converts of European descent with "true" Muslims or Islam itself - than support it. How you ask? Gosh, where to even begin ... evidence supporting the counter argument - that Janzsoon DID genuinely convert - OR AT THE VERY LEAST conducted himself and his affairs in a manner that would, by all apparent indication, lead one to conclude his conversion genuine, seems to be much more tangible and qualitative. Be this the case - that his actions in public affairs indicate adherence to Islamic tenets, and those he associated with were sufficiently satisfied by said actions to be convinced, then the actions were representative of a person for whom the colloqialism "Turk," is entirely appropriate. Based on this presentation he abandoned his Christian family and married a Muslim woman. This was a period of history when religious fanaticism was arguably at an all-time high. People were being persecuted and even killed because of their religious beliefs, even within the various faiths - hell even within differing factions of the same faith. At a time when concern and fear over the fate and destination of one's eternal soul held dominant and ever present influence over one's actions, no true believer would convert except out of fear of death for themselves or loved ones, and in this case would seek to publicly repent as soon as the danger was gone, if at all possible. If at all possible they would seek to distance themselves, first physically, then through actions from that which was forced on them by those who are "other," so as to exemplify, in the eyes of their peers - and diety - the pinnacle of adherence and devotion to their faith and its tenets and laws. Jan does anything but this after being captured and "allegedly" "made" to convert. After being released he doesn't rush back to native country to repent and serve his sovereign as a devout and duty bound follower or champion of any faith would do. He chose, of his own accord, to turn his back on his homeland and honorable duty to defend and further its interests, to engage in and lead others into immoral, unjust and cruel action for personal glory (tho in whose eyes said glory was derived or intended is not self evident and thus relavent) and self enrichment at the expense of the lives and well-being of others. HOWEVER, and this is key to my argument, his raids, their locations and targets were not only NOT indiscriminate, they abruptly changed; a change which just so happened to coincide with his conversion. Admittedly, he was undoubtedly a man of practicality more concerned with worldly pleasures and personal gain than any sense of duty bound loyalty or the desire to appear as such. His conversion, tho most likely forced (given its known previlence at the time) and at least partially motivated by self preservation, was never repented. Upon release, rather than swear vengeance on those who imprisoned him and forced (allegedly) him to denounce his faith, he partnered with them, actually gaining leadership and command over his former captors' fleet and crew, who also happened to be a Dutchman who had converted to Islam. Converting to Islam offered many advantages and privileges in the Barbury states, North Africa and Ottoman controlled regions at the time, especially for enterprising privateers looking to go rouge and pirate the region for personal gain.... more coming posting now so I don't lose this

Sonunda hakkında en çok bilginin olduğu video geldi teşekkürler Osman Öndeş in Turgut Reis Malta kuşatması ve son sefer kitabını okumuştum ama hakkında detaylı bir video yoktu Türk tarihinin en büyük denizcilerinden biri olmasına rağmen bir Barbaros Hayreddin Paşa ve Piri Reis kadar bilinmiyor olması üzücü maalesef çok fazla yerli kaynak da yok İspanya ve İtalya'da hakkında daha fazla bilgi var diye biliyorum tekrar teşekkürler sesli anlatım olursa daha iyi olur
