hi
1000 x like and share we miss Dr. Stamp at IUP! Such a great influence!
My grades in HS were average, but the only reason I enjoyed going to school was band. We were always being challenged in different aspects of artistry and I thank my band director for the direction he took in teaching us. We also did Gavorkna Fanfare my senior year, still one of my favorite pieces of music for band. Thanks a lot Jack Stamp for letting the world know how important music is in education. It seems like performing art clubs are slowly being killed to promote athletic clubs which is sad. My alma mater's band was huge when I was still there, now the band barely has 20 people. Truly sad to see.
I have seen a couple TV commercials from NAMM encouraging people to play musical instruments. I'm happy to know that I am not the only person in the world who has noticed that musical instruments and instrumental music are dying a miserable death. The sad fact is that these commercials will not make any difference. Music educators are the only people in a position to make a difference and prevent the extinction of musical instruments. Unfortunately music educators do not care if instrumental music dies 10 or 20 or 50 years from now. All they care about is what score their ensemble gets at the next festival.
I've installed dozens of these switches and never had a call back. You probably have some incorrect wiring either at the switch or at the light. What kind of load do you have?
+electricalron I've checked it with a meter every step of the way, it's all correct. I know problems with these aren't common, and I have several others in my house that haven't given me any problems, but I managed to get 2 bad ones in a row.
Powerful words! Very few things require the accuracy that music does. :)
BAND IS VERY HARD. It's basically reading another language. It was a whole bunch of lines and dots when I first started. Music helps a lot with academics especially math. ^_^
I've been using one for 6 years with no problems
Yes those dimmer sucks after few hour stopping to work properly
Is it wired properly? Interference from something? Is the fan within the proper operating specs of the switch? I have two of the ir dimmers for close to 10 years with no issues. Even the batteries in the remotes still work. I own that same fan control with no issues. Maybe a bad batch? Wish you luck with your issue. I believe Lutron is one of the best out there.
Josh White Yup, everything is correct. Double, Triple, Quadruple checked it. Even checked it with a meter at every step of the chain to make sure neutral / ground / hot were correct all the way through. Everything is correct, the Lutron hardware is just garbage. Directly across the hall from this room I have a nearly identical fan, on a nearly identical Lutron product- the only difference is that I have the dual function remote control in that room. Everything was installed at the same time, and the hardware in that room has never given me problems. What drove me to make this video wasn't just that the initial hardware developed problems, and the replacement hardware they sent me was defective out of the box, but their complete and total refusal to respond to me after the 2nd round of hardware was proven to be faulty. I interpret that as them saying "Shut up, we have your money by now, and we don't care anymore."
YASS!! Amen to this.
This is a great video. Every student in every school music ensemble should see it. Unfortunately few, if any, have. This is because music educators don't receive plaques or trophies or respect or admiration from their peers for teaching their students the importance of music education. Music educators do not directly benefit from teaching their students the importance of music education. When those students become adults, they will not support music education. That is why music education is dying.
Anyone know where to find this cd?
Excellent video! Music is so important to life in itself and the world. We can never lose music in our lives. If we take out music and art out of our schools, we stifle the world and it's talent to become artists. It is about growing with your God given talents to make the world a better place and to bring each person to their highest good. Thank you for making this video.
In regard to why Idina should have never said that it's ok to hit 75% of the notes......
Fun!
BRRAAAVOOOO!!!!!!
Kudos to Jack Stamp for this outstanding presentation. SHARE this video through all the social media and email especially with school boards.
I wish it wasn't always about INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC!! Choir is equally as important. It takes just as much effort to learn how to sing properly as to learn an instrument you hold in your hands. The difference in vocal music is I can't push a set of keys or a slide to produce a note. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, as a vocalist, MUSIC MATTERS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE HALL...
A completely agree with you :) though it just so happened that Jack Stamp was dealing with an instrumental ensemble. My Music Theory teacher comments all of the time how the voice is the hardest instrument, and though I am a trumpet performance major, I can't say that I disagree. It is equally as hard, (if not harder in my opinion) to get a choir in tune than it is an instrumental ensemble; assuming all instruments, voice included, have become acclimated to the temperature of the room/hall. I wish all activities in high school, college, and the real world were equally appreciated.. Though that would be a utopia for us musicians. It is unfair to an NFL player to make millions while professional orchestras go bankrupt.
I agree with you completely. However, i must say, the vocal arts are becoming even more "ruined" in my opinion, by pop culture. Many people in schools assicate singing with this new pop form of singing with auto tune, and that makes everyone who doesnt know the difference between pitch and rhythm think that they do know everything. Singing is truly a difficult form of music, but this new media is warping the thoughts of the people into seeing singing as something easier. Its hard for teachers to influence kids out of this idea. My high school chorus was full of people, men and women alike, and not that i have anything wrong with them as people, but them being the musical IDIOTS that they were, thought they could sing professionally because they could sing their favorite Rihanna song. Again, i agree with you, but it is becoming more difficult to show those who are not on our side of the boat to come over to our side; the better side.
Andrew Ladd Yasss!!! This is so touchy! I agreeeeeeeee X10!
This video really applies to all forms of music. If a choir sang with only 94% effort, it would sound like crap. If a rock band only played with 94% effort, it would be crappy too. Football can get away with having a single MVP on their team, but in musical ensembles everybody has to be an MVP. No exceptions.
Actually in my band they always say if u can sing the pitch u can't play it on ur instruments and we sing a lot in marching band get the right pitch we sing to find a pitch and sometimes we sing in the stands in different notes
Music demands Artistry, Artistry and exceeding Artistry. One can play all the right notes to perfection yet if there is no artistry it means very little but a sequence of correct notes played in time.
starlightlake I agree 100%, however, the music still has to be accurately presented for the artistry to have effect. If, for example, the 90-95% correct group played extremely musically, would it still have the same impact as the first group?
Shannandoah arranged by Frank Ticheli
One of the most convincing videos I've seen in quite a while.
I am a musician and have been one for a long time. This is the best reasoning I have ever heard for why music is important. I couldn't have said it better.
Our daughter LOVES band/music & she had her first high school band concert the other nite & it was amazing!! Keep music in our schools. Our son also plays in band in the middle school, coming into HS next year & they both do very well academically.
I joined band when I was 12. I can confidently say that music changes everything about you; it affects your grades, your work ethics, your patience... A lot of the self-growth I've experienced correlates directly to my time in band. I can't even begin to imagine what kind of person I would be today if it weren't for band. Without the music program, I would've missed out on what I consider to be the most important thing in my life. Please don't take music out of schools!
I recently watched a youtube video in which the Alexis I Dupont H.S. Band Director Paul Parets said "There are several hundred trophies here on the walls. The nice thing is every one of them is a first place." This is a great example of what is wrong with music education and why it is dying. Music "educators" are so obsessed with winning that they are not teaching appreciation for music to their students. When those students become adults, they do not support music education and programs die.
music is the most important thing in my life, it was music that led me to the high school i went to for 2 years, but because of district stupidity, ruining the marching band, i left that school and am now at a different DISTRICT for their music. it is sad i had to make that choice.
This is a great video. All students in school music ensembles should see this. I bet few, if any, have. Music "educators" do not want to waste any rehearsal time teaching the value of music education to their students. Music "educators" don't receive any plaques or trophies or admiration from their peers for teaching the value of music education to their students. When those students become adults, they do not support music education, and music education dies...because of selfish "educators".
I lost it at the 94-95% xD I love band. I would end up dropping out if band was taken away from the curriculum because its the only thing that motivates me to try. I'm not the fastest person when it comes to school and ability to learn on a fast rate is really bad. It takes a lot of effort for me to learn math and English and history but because band boosted my ability to memorise divide and really get my brain working I'm able to get through the classes by using my band skills
Where would I be without being in band? Not in my career today. Not teaching the very thing I fell in love with. And without the opportunity to play in places like Los Angeles, Orlando, New York City, Washington D.C. and San Diego. That isn't counting the places I had the opportunity to perform with through drum corps. Music really does give opportunities to people that have few and it is heart wrenching to see programs being cut.
How could anyone dislike this?
