The story of Jesus' birth, as told in the New Testament.
The story of Jesus' birth, as told in the New Testament, begins with the angel Gabriel announcing to Mary, a young virgin in Nazareth, that she will conceive a son by the Holy Spirit. This child, Jesus, is destined to be the Savior of the world. Mary, engaged to Joseph, is soon married to him after he is reassured by an angel that her pregnancy is part of God's plan.
A Roman decree forces Mary and Joseph to travel to Bethlehem for a census. Upon arrival, they find no room at the inn and seek refuge in a stable, where Jesus is born. Angels announce his birth to shepherds in nearby fields, who come to see the newborn Messiah. Later, wise men from the East, guided by a star, visit Jesus, bringing gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
To protect the child from King Herod’s murderous plot, Joseph is warned in a dream to flee to Egypt with Mary and Jesus. After Herod's death, they return to Nazareth, where Jesus grows up, destined to fulfill his role as the Savior of humanity.
