Exploring the science and technicalities of cacti through poorly drawn pictures.
RMF Pedro Park Cactus Seed Grow-Off — Weeks 2-5: Starting to Acclimate
It's been a few weeks since I planted my seeds for the Rocky Mountain Fresh grow-off, and today I'll be going over what the seedlings have been up to since the last video.

Today I plant some seeds for the Rocky Mountain Fresh grow-off. Growers taking part will be trying to grow the largest Trichocereus cactus within a year. How To Root Cactus Cuttings FAST!
มุมมอง 11Kปีที่แล้ว
Today I demonstrate the fastest method that I have encountered for rooting cactus cuttings. With this tek you can observe your progress without worrying about distrubing fresh roots, because no burying is required! Trichocereus Wiki: trichocereuswiki.org

i do the same thing for rooting but I use Aloe Vera gel instead of commercial product... and I don't use the water tech.,.. just dip the cutting in aloe gel and bury it, watering with aloe tea very lightly once every three days,.. I usually get roots in less than a month... great video,.. I am subscribing now!
Do you just use the aloe gel from a your plant and then bury it in its soil in a pot? Also, what is aloe tea?
Yes, please expand on the aloe tea recipe. Also, how much and how often should I rub the aloe gel on the bottom of the cutting?
@@chemayrigoyen6158 after the plant has healed, dip the calloused end in the straight aloe gel, and plant it as a normal cutting.. water with a half cup of aloe gel mixed with a gallon of water. as far as I know, you could use aloe water every time you water. I use it once a week for the first three weeks then just regular water every two weeks as I usually water. You could use the aloe water even after the plant is established but I haven't tried it yet... I also use aloe gel for cloning other plants like, tomatoes. It is a great root promoter and a great rot preventative.
@@Bruzumi yes, just peel the aloe and and get the gel into a cup or bowl, and use it just like clonex. Clonex is similar but with an anti bacterial agent involved.. adding some honey to the aloemix would help with antibacterial aspects as well. that way you dont have to use starkle G, which renders the plant toxic. So does clonex. Using aloe makes the edibility of the plant stay non toxic. aloe tea is just a half cup of aloe gel mixed with water. Happy growing! these hacks made me the most successful cactus grower I have ever been.
@@cactuscapacity thanks for this. I think I’m still in the ‘trying to heal the cutting’ phase so I’m keeping it off soil for the moment. I’m trying to revive a cutting from A LONG TIME AGO. It has shrunken almost to dust but it’s “hairs” remain shiny and look healthy so I’m keeping my hopes up. It almost immediately absorbed the aloe gel I rubbed without any mushiness and I think I maybe see starts of rooting. I just rubbed a good amount of aloe on the cuttings bottom and will wait for it to dry and be absorbed. Thanks again!
Thanks Jay, say hello to Silent Bob
Very helpful!
I want only San Pedro now with the notches, like my LER. Sheesh PC I suspect is what my first one was and fastest grower
Incredible medicine the blue one in background
That blue pup aw man, and sugar magnolia
Real good content, ordered some today. Thanks friend.
This is a great vid, thank you
The difference between water roots and regular roots was not addressed here. That is important. If not for that it's phenomenal.
What a surprisingly comedic, fun to watch, informational, educational and overall wonderful video. The effort put into the delivery of the information is appreciated, and downright applauded. Well done Thoroughly enjoyed it, can't wait to watch more, as a new cactus and succulent daddy, seeking accurate and useful information.
What do you use for soil for new plants and old plants?
I Enjoy the content cadence and voice, makes me forget Im looking at Trichocereus content. Its usually a hippie surfer laid back voice on these topics.😂 happy cactusing 🌵
What plant is that grafted to at 1:22?
Yes I wondered that too
I have seen a tiny cactus graft on a pepper (chilli) plant but although alive, it didn't grow. I think it died after 3 months.
Now this, is a phenomenal video. As a plant science major, everything you said was dead on. I am new to columnar cacti and cacti care, I just got a few Stenocereus cuttings and was wondering on how to speed up the rooting process and while considering the CAM photosynthesis.
Do you apply right after cut or after calloused ? Thanks
Subscribed! Keep em coming! Great video!
Trichoderma will eventually defeat any mycelium
Inspiring me to setup a 2nd tent
Can you tell the product you are using for the BTI?
Nice video,Happy New Year and peace…
Those yellow tbms are so cool! Has grafting to the pc helped with the growth rate much?
The graft was performed by the previous owner, and with it being so yellow, I don't think it has enough chlorophyll to produce the energy needed sustain itself on its own roots.
I’m excited !!!
Where's my seeds 🤷🏼♂️ I just found out 🤷🏼♂️
Don't feel too bad, ever since this grow-off was announced I feel like it's got the ball rolling with several other grow-offs I've been seeing discussed around the Trichocereus community.
@@Cactus-Friend where are those I just found out about them 🤷🏼♂️😆
