Building MV Dauntless
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 21 ม.ค. 2020
Welcome to our channel! We are Carl and Cassie and we built a 28’ power catamaran by Spirited Designs in Australia with zero boat building experience. We wanted a boat that we could cruise on, cook on, fish on, stay on comfortably and call our own. Being giants, it’s hard to find a boat with a cabin that has enough clearance for someone 6’7”! We had to customize some aspects of this build to accommodate our needs. Tune in and see what we're up to!

Build this Catamaran for under $3,000 in TWO MONTHS! Part 4
มุมมอง 31K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Hello everybody! If you haven't noticed, we have taken a bit of a break from TH-cam recently. Needless to say, we have been a little bit busy. We sold our center console last year and we missed being on the water. We tried to find something reasonable on the market but, as most of you know, nothing is reasonable in the boating world right now. Carl had a fleeting idea, and well, if you know us....

Sell the plans on to me ?
I watched from the beginning then u guys found the pressure of a weekly up load was taking the joy from the build. Now I check in and wow looks awesome
It was a kit boat guys, they are as simple😊
Kit what kit?
Very very limited space for two big adults
In hindsight we would build a bigger boat. But glad you’re trolling us and contributing to the algorithm!
When u screw the paint job hide it with a wrap, disappointing guys
😂
Mate your going to have a shit time with where your cables are, you will be stepping all over them. Your obviously not people who have spent time on the water. Please take these comments onboard you do a ok job just need a lot more advise
@@ClaireK-v3i what are you talking about? The cables coming up from the floor? If so, Not a problem.
Guys wood backing will be high maintenance particularly in areas with high water contact. The way to do it properly is router out the edges of your core them soak your glass and roll lengths into rope then put that in the edge . Drill holes oversize then fill with Structural epoxy. When cured drill again and the edges of hole are sealed no chance of ingress.. takes longer to do but is a far better way, the wood will hide the water ingress into your core and after two trips you will have water being sucked into your core material and sadly you will see it till to late
@@ClaireK-v3i been on the water for 6 months. Literally no issues. It’s honeycomb core- water will not intrude. Also the bow is so high no splashing on windows either! But thanks for your concern 😊

Wow yall did it whats a beautiful boat dang 😮 sumthing to be so proud of great build and you know one thing i have been around boats all my life and i bet this boats built better then most boat builder could to do.
Did you use the honey comb pvc boards or the divincell h 60 ?
Wow😮 what a wonderful job yall have done so far you should be so proud .i cant wait to see it on the water .again yall have done such a great job .
What's the peel ply do ?
excellent vid! can't imagine a much simpler structure for this use case.
Very nice, but that bow looks like it will not like a head sea at all.
awesome, nice to see her on the water!
Wow, just a beautiful boat. You could read a book in the reflection on the side of the hull. You guys deserve some time on the water as well as recognition for the level of quality throughout the build. Bravo, stay safe and enjoy the fruits of your labor.
So much hard work that has paid off in a beautiful boat. Fantastic video showing it off.
Thanks. Just one comment, on top of those from others. If you roll biaxial at 45deg, ie in line with the fibres, it saturates the fabric more readily.
Awesome looking boat well done.
Coolest, craziest looking boat on the water! Please film some some donuts and power slides ;)
Fantastic job. Looking forward to full tour and action shots of her running on plane. Kudos to both of ya. 👍👍👏👏👏👏
Looks great. What about a video of it in action?
She is beautiful and a credit to you both! Very well done! Onto something bigger for the sea?..
Congrats! She looks great
Nice 👍👍👍👍👍👍 Good Job for both of you and enjoy your long hard work .
Nice! Very pretty boat... and watching all your progress, I think it is of higher build quality than many production boats. I look forward to your adventures on Dauntless...
🤝👍
Pretty sweet
Well, it certainly looks good at rest. When do we see it in action? Please show us e v e r y t h i n g.
Yabba Dabba Doo
So beautiful
Now I see why we haven’t seen you both. Looks great. I’m so impressed with the build and an intact marriage.
Really cool to see on the water! Congratulations a major achievement!!!💯👍👍👍 Cheers Warren
Love it So happy for you both !
Proud of your efforts et dreams
Thanks ,im going build a rc aircraft carrier sure need this hints😂😂😂
Maybe I'm nuts, I really enjoy working with fiberglass. I don't own a boat at the moment, but I'm looking forward to the kinds of repairs most people dread.
Masterful Indeed....
Dang, that turned out great!!
You may end up answering this by the end, however, planning a homebuilt boat, myself (email sent), I want to ask how long this project took, beginning to end? If you had been able to put 40 hrs, per week, into it, how long do you think it would have taken?
I just want to let you two know that I really appreciate you documenting the build in Dauntless. I have been planning, researching, and designing a custom boat, myself. I had the idea of using foam in fiberglass, instead of wood or coosa, but have had trouble finding anyone doing it. You have given me hope that my dream of building this boat, myself, is possible ..... although, it is a completely different hull style. Thank you for all the information. I have been binge watching the entire series, since finding the build.
Thank you! Glad to hear that…we didn’t have the stamina to document the entire thing step by step but hopefully it was enough to help
@BuildingMVDauntless It certainly is. I thought I was going to have to experiment to figure it all out. I was given a Mandatory Medical Retirement from the military, September of 2023, and wanted to find something to build, to fill my time ...... something that would be useful to my family during retirement. I hope to start on the boat, soon. I do plan to document the build, also; more raw than your videos, however. I have no skill in editing. Thank you for your reply and, again, thank you for the content. It will be useful, when I start my build.
@@BuildingMVDauntless The boat looks absolutely amazing. The colors; the fit and finish ...... You did a great job; then, to consider you built it by hand, with no experience. That makes it even more impressive, to me.
What is the honeycomb product?
Carbon core is the brand. We had a crappy experience with them so we try not to promote them
75 gallons
creating things is great for the brain!
Just found you guys, this is fantastic
I love being the nutty neighbor always working on stuff
just found you guys and now here goes the binge watch of the build. Very cool!
How dimension this cat,?
What about the peel??
You two are amazing!!! And Carl, to have a wife that is as hands on and supportive of you, and your ideas, and so trusting in your incredible ingenuity and skill is a marriage directed from heaven. Give her the same trust in her talents and you two will be solid forever. ❤️❤️❤️ ❤️❤️❤️
