Didn't watch the video at all but they literally tell you why we can't in the first iron man film: we don't have anything powerful enough that wouldn't massively blow up the size and make the whole thing inefficient. Large part of that first movie is about how Tony Stark created what amounts to a nuclear reactor thats the size of a fist that doesn't throw off radiation.

Iron Man's suit has some sort of inertial dampeners so he doesn't get turned into jello when he gets knocked around.

One take away is that recoil would not apply to light so if its some kinda of laser gun with most of it damage relying on thermal energy there wouldn’t necessarily have to be recoil or a lot of it but i suppose that recoil is what allows him to fly so idk maybe two separate sources one for flight one for combat at least in the later movies where recoil in attacks isnt as apparent

Why does no one ever mention the REAL reason why we can't build a suit that does what an Iron Man suit can do. Two words: inertial dampener. The movies never mention it, and I've never seen it mentioned in comics, but in order for Iron Man to do the aerial maneuvers he does and not die, be able to shoot his repulsor beams with little to no recoil, and do a "superhero" landing without destroying himself, OR get hit by tank shells and be relatively okay is that he has a device somewhere on his suit that either dampens the force of inertia or cancels it out entirely. And I'm no physicist or scientist but even I know that an inertial dampener that works on an Iron Man level caliber might as well be pure Harry Potter magic!

They really understate the energy problem. Making an armored suit fly through raw thrust would exhaust the best battery we could fit in a package that small in a matter of seconds. And no power source other than a battery can be that small in the first place. At the rate batteries have improved over the past hundred years, it's going to be several more centuries before we can fit that much energy in a space that small. Best case.

I mean, you're trying to achieve the better versions like mk 3 and beyond, but we should all start with the begining: the mk 1. Basic weapons, protection, strength and a little bit of flying, that's totally achievable nowadays
