    The further I get into adulthood, the more I realize that all of the things I like and the ways I choose to dress ultimately have their origin in Winx Club. This show has had more of an impact on my personality and perspective on life than I think I'll ever truly understand.

    I wouldn't call Aisha a tomboy considering who's she's based off. Both Aisha and Tecna are still feminine just have alternatively feminine styles instead of classic styles.

    • @SuperPsychic101
      @SuperPsychic101 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      And even moreso for Aisha since she’s a princess!

    • @obehiikhigbonoaremen1241
      @obehiikhigbonoaremen1241 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @SuperPsychic101 Exactly! It has the same energy as someone calling Helia feminine just cause he has long hair, even if he's masculine in every other way. Or what I was actually criticizing, calling feminine female characters masculine because they stand up for themselves(ex: Aisha has long hair and wears dresses, likes fashion as much as the other girls but she's considered less feminine for being confident??? Even though Stella is confident and bold, too! And somehow 🙄 Stella isn't being considered a tomboy)

      @0jamajo 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@obehiikhigbonoaremen1241 Aisha is usually considered less feminine because she's athletic, not because she's confident. Helia is seen as feminine because he's a "bishounen" (a pretty boy with an androgynous look). He's also said to "know the heart of a girl" better than the other guys; he's deeply poetic and he's more pacifistic than the others. Whether or not it's logical to label these things as masculine/feminine, societal norms treat these things as indicators. So it subconsciously impacts how these characters are viewed. That said, I think that people exaggerate/fixate on these traits. Aisha's overall gender expression is still high femme. Loving physical activity doesn't affect that in any way. Season 2-3 Helia stands out for his design and being "in touch with his feminine side" or whatever. But he still doesn't present in an overtly feminine way and is more of a prince charming imo.

      @0jamajo So, are you agreeing or disagreeing with me? I'm also gonna be honest I'm also aware of social norms, seeing as I was just complaining about them. I'm more concerned with the fact that Aisha, the only black girl, is considered more "masculine" despite being just as feminine as the other girls and liking sports. It's incredibly silly because we KNOW feminine girls play sports. Aisha is no Toph Beifong or Korra from Legend of Korra in terms of her style. Like her level of femininity is the same as Stella or Bloom's. With Helia, I get it in terms of aesthetic and androgynous appearance. However, in terms of personality? Sky and Nabu also know how to speak with women. Literally, every specialist except Riven had the capacity to do this. The Prince Charming Archtype is as old as time. No one has ever thought it was feminine. Like most comics where the ml has long hair? Or where the male lead is a respectful prince? In my opinion, it's basically Aisha, Musa, Techa: Alternative femininity Bloom, Stella, Flora: Conventional Femininity Sky, Riven, Brandon, Timmy, tbh: Conventional Masculinity Helia, Nabu: Alternative Masculinity But the common thread here is that alternative femininity isn’t the same as being a tomboy/masc. Alternative masculinity isn't the same, as being a femboy/think Harry Styles/feminine. Unfortunately, I don't really think most of the Winx girls would be received well if they WERE actually tomboys. Same thing with the specialist tbh. Social norms and conformity are part of the package, which is sad to me.

    • @0jamajo

      @@obehiikhigbonoaremen1241 I'm disagreeing that people see Aisha as masculine just because she's confident and Helia as feminine just because of his long hair. I'm agreeing that it's silly to label them as such regardless. Basically: there are (slightly) more understandable reasons than what you gave for why they're perceived the way they are. But you're right to say that doesn't make it rational or above criticism. And I agree with what you say about Aisha and alternative styles. But the show itself establishes that Helia is the only guy that "gets girls". The Specialists (minus Nabu) have a conversation about this in S3 (and S3 Nabu wasn't sweet like he is in S4). I don't think the show is saying that the other boys are incapable of interacting positively with girls. They just aren't characterized as being as "sensitive" and "in touch with their feminine sides" the same way Helia is in the S2-3 area. (And to be clear, most people are referring to S2-3 Helia when they discuss his perceived femininity. S4 onward is a whole other conversation.) This characterization, along with his other personality traits, compounds on how he's perceived visually. Again, not saying it's rational and shouldn't be criticised. Just saying the factors are there influencing the audience perception. Also, I said *_I_* see Helia as being more of a Prince Charming *_instead of_* being "the feminine one". Didn't say the Prince Charming archetype is itself feminine or that anybody else agrees with me. Though I will add that I still don't think Helia fits the archetype in a traditional way. I think he's more poetic, artsy & pacifistic than the traditional Prince Charming; but I can still see him as a play on the trope.

    The intelligence of Winx world building designs is incredible, they clearly make some art nouveau influences with Alfea, Gothic with the cloud tower, and essentially late 90s and early 2000s syfy futurism, it might have even some Moebius influence in some designs, mixing something that it's all too familiar and new and innovative at the same time.

    Hey, random male guy here, I just thought I’d leave this here for anyone who likes winx club and/or is a fan of the magic girl genre- My story is such: I have not watched any winx club, or sailor moon, or most other things you can name. However, as I finally wanted to get into anime last September, believe it or not, my entry series was, tho I may be a bit embarrassed to say it, a magic girl anime, mainly because I just happened to remember one particular violin scene that resonated with me off of TH-cam once. It’s called Go! Princess Precure (yes, one instalment of the larger disconnected series) and I still believe, as far as what the genre at least appears to me to be all about, this one is good, and I still enjoy it. From it, I understand the appeal of this stuff isn’t just about being girly, I loved it simply because of the characters, their friendships their struggles, the everyday adventures intertwined with a sorta overarching plot, all just complimented by the action as well. So I figure I’ll just mention it here mention it here, since I got the result I expected- this is clearly a ‘if this is what you like, you’ll like this’ situation, so I just think if you like this show and that genre, this one is defo worth checking out.

    Hearing that comment about how fashion is a huge part of Winx Club and the girls characters is so sad because the newer seasons just have all the girls act so generic like "nice girl who is main character" "nice girl who likes fashion" "nice girl who likes nature" etc. and even their clothes are now just the same school uniforms with the only differences between them being *SOME of the colors. Dont even get me started on season 8 + WoW and the whitewashing This video is amazing! So sad that its underrated...

    Absolutely on the last part. I love this show even as an adult but it's important to acknowledge it's flaws even in earlier seasons. I also kinda wish Tecna being autistic was actually canon since some people view her as autistic coded. It would just be nice since as an autistic woman I rarely see us getting good representation that doesn't feel forced into the story.

    Wow, sad to see no one see this video. It looks like you spent a lot of time making it and are passionate about it so I thought I'd comment. You did help me realize how much the stakes were lowered in the seasons after the first. The spongebob visuals with the soundtrack got a laugh out of me. I've loved Winx since possible 2005 when I was 15, half of my entire life now. Never lost interest. And Tecna has always been my favorite even if I have more of Musa's personality/ I agree that the series stopped growing with us, but I too will always love the first 4 seasons. I also agree that it was pretty rotten of them to kill off (permanently) the only love interest who's a PoC, not cool. And Tecna's sacrifice scarred me for life. I'm surprised you didn't talk about that in season 3. They got to explore Stella, Flora and Aisha's home worlds and meet either parents, siblings, relatives or friends of the girls from their home worlds. Given a higher demographic rating, I could see the possibilities they could have with some situations. Especially in regards to Tecna's survival in the Omega Dimension. I'm still hung up on the fact that they straight up showed her about to get stabbed but was saved by Bloom and Sky at the last second. I could just be overthinking it but that's just how passionate I am. Anyway, awesome video. It needs more exposure.

      Omg, thank you so much, this matters a lot. I guess i still feel some kind of personal vendetta for season 3, because when I was maybe 10 and spend all my time on fandom sites, everybody couldn’t stop talking about how good season 3 is and its the best thing ever made and enchantix is the most visually stunning transformation, but then i watched it and was kinda disappointed. Also, I think I wanted to “be different and not like other girls” at that age which played a part in my viewing of it, and unfortunately it’s kinda hard to get rid of your fist impressions.
