100 Year Old Japanese Hotel & Kura Sushi in Beppu - Thor in Japan 🌊🍣 Episode 7 (Travel Vlog Series)
Welcome to Episode 7 of Thor in Japan-your ultimate travel adventure where the mundane meets the profound! 🌏🎥
This time, we're diving into Beppu, Kyushu-a seaside town where tradition, sushi, and heartfelt nostalgia collide. In this episode:
🏨 Stay: Immerse yourself in the charm of a 100-year-old Ryokan, complete with tatami mats, paper-thin walls, and a private onsen that feels like stepping into Spirited Away.
🍣 Eat: Join us at Kura Sushi, the family-friendly sushi haven, where we shamelessly devoured fries alongside fresh, honest sushi. (Spoiler: The fries were worth it.)
🏖️ Feel: Touch the Pacific Ocean for the first time and channel your inner 90s anime protagonist.
🌅 Reflect: Experience the quiet magic of Beppu at sunset, from rustic streets to a mall exploration that’s… as mall-like as ever.
But this isn’t just a travel vlog; it’s a story about finding home. Whether it’s a feeling, a place, or a memory, “home” connects our past to the fleeting beauty of the present.
🔑 Key Moments:
The Ryokan’s serene night vibes 🕯️
The charm of Japanese toilets 🚽 (Trust me, it’s a game-changer!)
A surreal walk along Beppu Bay 🌊
✨ Why Watch?
If you’ve ever dreamt of Japan, felt the pull of adventure, or wondered what makes a place truly feel like “home,” this episode is for you. Packed with humor, deep reflections, and some sushi-induced epiphanies, it’s travel with a Thor Epic twist.

Greetings from Bucharest 👋🎅🎄🎁☃️❄️
is it really worth it to go there. I feel like you need FOMO to see a torii that you can see somewhere else
@@docmemphis2760 well I guess that really depends on your travel plans, what you want to see and do. It is quite famous for a reason - in my opinion at least - since the idea of placing it right in the water is kind of special and it is quite pretty to look at. Having said that, we did spend a night in Hiroshima anyways, so checking it out while we were there, was kind of a no brainer. Would I travel across Japan just to see the most famous sights like this one? No. But again that’s just my personal preference. So bottom line: you do you! FOMO should never be a critical factor in decision making anyways :)
@ThorEpic Hakone Shrine is also on water it just doesnt have that catchy unesco tag
@@docmemphis2760 yes, that’s true, it’s in/ on a lake, right next to the shore. And Hakone is very beautiful as well we, went there last year. Absolutely recommend when you are in the region. Unfortunately, I didn’t have my camera with me back then. So yeah, do either one… or both… or none :) whatever you prefer!
Thank you for this video. I can really relate. You put my feelings into words perfectly, as someone who also left their home country. :)
@@yokaironin1197 thank you very much! I am glad you enjoyed it :) and I wish you all the best for your personal journey away from home.
Great video, except the part where you say USA was trying to "achieve technological superiority" and "take as many lives as possible". That wasn't the goal of the nuclear weapons used. It was to force the Japanese Empire into a peace treaty and stop them from sacrificing so many of their own citizens lives, and it did just that. As an American I'm more than hesitant to visit Hiroshima or Nagasaki. I've heard many Japanese people say it's OK for Americans to visit but I wouldn't feel comfortable doing so at all.
@@kaiserxion Thank you very much for your comment; I truly appreciate it, especially since you expressed disagreement with that specific opinion I shared. I cannot argue with your perspective, and I am well aware of the rationale you mentioned. In that moment, however, what I felt was simply empathy-from one civilian to others who neither had a say in starting what led to that catastrophe nor, like you and I, would have had a say in how it was resolved. I believe all we can do is act within our limited power to ensure that things like that never even start. I also want to thank you for sharing your feelings with respect to being hesitant to visit Japan because you are American. As a German, I can empathize with that sentiment, too - as you maybe can imagine as well. From what I have learned so far, I do think you can visit and should. And I am glad it is that way. There wouldn’t be many countries left for me to visit, if the majority of people felt differently. And I am grateful they don’t.
It's sooooo beautiful that you treated your parents this way!👍👍👍
@@TM-ft5zc thank you very much, you are too kind! :) I am glad I did and they were very happy, too.

The "joke" about the manual hair dryer was peak German humor.
Thank you, very much appreciated! I try my very best… and they say Germans have no humor…
Lived in Tokyo for 11 years. Shibuya lost it’s way during the Olympics and is best avoided, it’s mostly a tourist trap.
It did give that vibe, that’s definitely true… I hope it’ll turn around some time soon.
Great video! Becoming a Writer sounds like a great book, too. I just found it on Audible and got it.
Thank you so much! I hope you like it as much as I did. Some tips (like getting used to typing on heavy typewriter keyboards 😂) is a bit outdated - but the essence remains untouched by time ☺️
Great point, guide & advice; thank you!

Nice video dude 1:05 Your question did make me think about my life for a bit. I've always been interested in the arts, just in general really. Animation, filmmaking, music, writing/storytelling. Really good video mate, deserves way more traction!
Thank you very much! I’m glad you liked it and your comment really means a lot!
If I may ask, you mention making 5 videos to start. You also mention the schedule. Would you drop those 5 all at once and then release according to your schedule with additional content or would you drop one or two and then drop the rest thus giving you a little back log for head room. I want to make sure I understand your recommendation clearly.
@@jackfrost4408 thank you for asking! I meant the former option, which you mentioned: dropping five at once and then stick to the schedule. I hope that helps!
Thank you so much for making this video. I am striving to get started with my own content and there are so many factors that are holding me back. Just hearing your story and advice towards the end was comforting and motivating. Perhaps when I start posting I will give a mention or shout out. Again, I really appreciate you sharing your journey and I really enjoy your content and insights.

Reminiscent of my summer trip there with my mother 15 years ago right after the Global Financial Crisis. I’m a downtown old boy. St. Moritz seemed to me to be an aristocratic world when I stayed at Monopol. Country road, take me home to the place where I belong, the west Yokohama, hmm.
Thank you for sharing your experience there! Do you remember something specific or a story, that gave you this aristocratic impression?
@@ThorEpic Thanks for your response. Though a little bit abstract description, St. Moritz aristocraticity or posh is embedded in the location or a top end of a winding spectrum from lower Italian terrains to there. As you know, it takes about two or three hours to drive there from the Milan International Airport. It was a gorgeous touring, weaving through long and winding roads and beautiful villas along Lake Como where David Beckham had stayed in summer, culminating in reaching the heights of St. Moritz. Neatly and pompously cobbled town with superb dachas of the 21st century’s aristocratic families, to which I don’t belong.
@@Thucyd haha yes! Very well put. I can literally see the journey you are describing in front of me. Especially traveling from south to north only to find that place at the end of it. I guess the rich and the famous of this world make sure to find only the best places for themselves 🙈🤷♂️. Thank you for that vivid description! 👍😊
This is boring
Thank you for the feedback - I’ll try harder next time 👍
Exactly what I needed to hear to today, thank you!!! Oh, and welcome on TH-cam
Thank you so much for that feedback. I wanted to make videos for a long time and I guess now that time has come. Your comment not only made my day it made my month :) Again thank you and I hope you enjoy the next video as well - it’s already scheduled for next Friday!
