I agree. The benefit of holding myself to the commitment to getting purple, which I just got, is that BJJ is now part of my life. Having blue or black as a goal carries a higher risk of disaffection.

I feel old with thirty … cannot imagine starting all over again ^^ not just because the body is old but when you get older you have so many things on your plate and it’s hard to find time for such a challenging new hobby. If you are older and start with bjj … I applaud you. It can be done … I have seen it many times. One of my training partners is 62. he started 8 years ago and just got his brown belt.

Some of these myths are partially true apart from the 5th which after 15 years of bjj I have never heard. Being strong, fast and having a very large size discrepancy can make up for skill to a large degree. Especially when the fast, strong, bigger person has had some training. Training can be dangerous in the wrong gym environment with the reckless training partners. The traditional, more Brazilian way of learning bjj is highly inefficient. Skill acquisition can be much faster when it is active with conceptual learning, problem solving, organised by principals, progressive resistance and targeted or constraint based sparring with a lot of troubleshooting after each round of specific sparring rather than just open rounds.

Man, I didn't know he was a brown belt at the time, wow.

I noticed on these people that are standing up, that the people doing the choke, are significantly above the head of the person that they’re choking out. If the person being choked, does a forward dive into the mat, all the weight of both people will land on the head and neck of the person doing the choking.

Who won that tournament?
