Hi! I'm Allison Simpkins (she/her), and I'm a pianist, arranger, composer, and teacher. I have recently begun my TH-cam journey and have thankfully begun to gain traction with my piano arrangements of fun music I enjoy. I've had a knack for transcribing and arranging since I was very young and I use it as a way to keep my musical skills sharp when I'm not working on original compositions.
I have played piano since I was ten years old, though I shifted my focus to writing music when I got my undergraduate degree in Composition. I recently graduated from the Peabody Institute of Music, one of the oldest music schools in the US, and am earned two Master's degrees in Composition and Music Theory Pedagogy. I am passionate about music education and teach piano, music theory, ear training, and composition to people of all ages.

Creo Lo Sientes - Sammy Rae & The Friends (Piano)
I am SO excited to share an arrangement of one of my favorite songs of all time - Creo Lo Sientes by Sammy Rae & The Friends! If you haven't listened to this band yet, don't walk - RUN to go listen!! They have new music coming out very soon! This band got me through the pandemic and gave me the positivity I desperately needed. When graduate music school was its hardest, their albums reminded me what I love the most about my career - having fun and spreading good vibes.
This particular song was super challenging to transcribe rhythmically. Most of the time I play this by ear - I decided not to use sheet music while recording, so there are small differences between the sheet music and what I played. Anyone who plays this arrangement should feel free to add their own flare to it!
I hope this arrangement does the song justice. It's not necessarily their most popular song (still waiting to hear it live after seeing two concerts...) but its definitely my favorite. I will potentially arrange more of their songs in the future.
Thank you Sammy Rae & The Friends!!

Like what I do? I put my heart and soul into every transcription and recording and would love your support so I can continue to make more. If you can, check out my Patreon page! www.patreon.com/allegroallie?fbclid=IwAR3iEZZx6quezjBgBQz0Ye4W6p-Q7ElPoNitvPntf7jBLwO-sZA2S2N8HXI

Crystal Kingdom - The Adventure Zone: Balance Solo Piano
มุมมอง 1.5K2 ปีที่แล้ว
I'm back and I'm two Master's degrees smarter! I took the last several months off of arranging to focus on finishing my degrees in Composition and Music Theory Pedagogy from the Peabody Institute. These degrees were incredibly demanding and required all off my concentration to complete a piece for orchestra and a 40-page thesis on my favorite topic in music theory. I'm so glad its all over and ...
Work Song - Hozier Piano Cover
มุมมอง 22K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Hi folks! Here's something a little different - a Hozier arrangement, requested and commissioned by a wonderful subscriber. Work Song was surprisingly challenging to arrange; simplicity in songs often means I have to work extra hard to make each new verse or chorus sound unique yet interconnected. There is also a looping version of this cover available on my SoundCloud: soundcloud.com/allie-sim...
revel for orchestra - Allison Simpkins
มุมมอง 2493 ปีที่แล้ว
This video is a live premiere of Allison Simpkins' orchestral work "revel," written as part of the celebration of 150 years of composition at the Peabody Institute. The concert was held October 20th, 2021, and performed by the Peabody Symphony Orchestra, masterfully conducted by Reuben Stern. The program notes from the beginning of the video are as follows: "revel" is an entirely self-indulgent...
TAZ: Ethersea - A Brief History of Our Wasted World (Solo Piano)
มุมมอง 3.7K3 ปีที่แล้ว
not me realizing too late that this is the same dress I wore in my other Ethersea piano vid 🙃 Hi everyone! Sorry for the long break between videos! I had a huge case of writer's block while working on a big arrangement of TAZ: Balance's Crystal Kingdom, which I had hoped to post when the graphic novel came out but had no such luck. I may come back around to it soon, but for now, have some more ...
till the water runs clear - Allison Simpkins
มุมมอง 1723 ปีที่แล้ว
"till the water runs clear" was written for the Baltimore Symphony's "Lunch Bachs" series. For this project, I had the honor of being paired with horn player Lisa Bergman. Read below for the program notes from the beginning of the video: “till the water runs clear” was inspired by a talk from the musician Ben Folds that I had the pleasure of attending a few years ago. When asked about how he co...
Oh Hey, It's Hodge Podge! - The Adventure Zone: Balance Solo Piano
มุมมอง 2K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Hi all! Here is a simple but super fun theme and variation based on Griffin's "Oh Hey, It's Hodge Podge!" from the Crystal Kingdom arc of TAZ: Balance! This is a sneak peek at my special project coming out next week in preparation for the release of the Crystal Kingdom graphic novel. Can anyone guess which track is next? The "Theme" is pretty much verbatim what Griffin wrote and posted original...
train of thought - Allison Simpkins
มุมมอง 1443 ปีที่แล้ว
Back to our regularly scheduled programming of original compositions! If you're new to my channel from my TAZ arrangements, welcome! I will absolutely continue to upload those here and to my Musescore, but I needed to take a brief hiatus this week and next week since I am on a cross-country trip and don't have my usual musical supplies with me. However, I did just upload a fun arrangement of "O...
No Dogs on the Moon! - The Adventure Zone: Balance Solo Piano
มุมมอง 2.1K3 ปีที่แล้ว
No dogs on the moon, just very cute cats. Lucretia seems more like a cat person anyway. I'm back this week with a somewhat easier TAZ arrangement since I'm gearing up for something special for the release of the Crystal Kingdom graphic novel in a few weeks! "No Dogs on the Moon!" has always been one of my favorite TAZ tracks, since it really captures the simple joy and fun that Taako, Merle, an...
Into the Quarry - The Adventure Zone: Balance Solo Piano
มุมมอง 2K3 ปีที่แล้ว
I'm slowly getting better at video editing!! Finally got the MIDI vid to sync up with what I'm playing. :) As usual, all song credit goes to the brilliant mind of Griffin McElroy. Similarly to "Wonderland - Round 3," this one was particularly tricky due to the many layers that Griffin uses. He's also got some really interesting harmonies and dissonances that I just love. "Into the Quarry" was a...
Wonderland Round 3 - The Adventure Zone: Balance Solo Piano
มุมมอง 3.3K3 ปีที่แล้ว
tfw you head bang so hard your headphones fly off 🙃 Hi again! I'm keeping the ball rolling with an arrangement of the very popular "Wonderland - Round 3" from The Adventure Zone: Balance! This has been one of my favorite tracks since the beginning of the podcast and one of the first times we got to see Griffin McElroy's musical skills really begin to develop. This is one of the most challenging...
Villains - The Adventure Zone: Graduation Solo Piano
มุมมอง 1.6K3 ปีที่แล้ว
I'm back with another Adventure Zone arrangement! This one is from TAZ: Graduation, composed by Griffin McElroy. This is one of his most pianistic tracks to date, composed almost entirely for solo piano with some minor atmospheric electronic elements at the end. Unlike my Ethersea theme transcription which had a lot of room for creative freedom, I kept this arrangement as painstakingly close to...
The Adventure Zone: Ethersea Theme for Solo Piano
มุมมอง 31K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Hi folks! Here's something a little new for this channel. When I'm not writing new works, I spend a lot of my time arranging and transcribing music that I like. I've had a knack for it ever since I was young and have uploaded a few scores to the wonderful website MuseScore. This work is the theme to the brand new arc of the podcast The Adventure Zone, titled "Ethersea." Griffin McElroy did a fa...
Monster: Azula's Mad Scene - Allison Simpkins
มุมมอง 2014 ปีที่แล้ว
Written for the Opera Etudes class at the Peabody Institute of Music, this etude sets text from Avatar: the Last Airbender. In this particular scene, one of the lead antagonists, the psychologically tormented Azula, sees a vision of her mother the night before her premature coronation at the age of 14. With my limited time span and randomly selected orchestration, I hoped to capture Azula's sad...
the unexpected - Allison Simpkins
มุมมอง 1334 ปีที่แล้ว
"the unexpected" is a set of three movements by Allison Simpkins that use the same text describing the various emotions brought on by the hardships of the COVID-19 pandemic. 0:09 The piece begins with "the graduation we deserved." This movement focuses on the nostalgia and longing for a graduation that never happened for millions of young adults. In the text, three good friends share a bittersw...

This is really good! 😮❤
i found this arrangement a few years ago and honestly still play it almost every day. thank you so much for posting it <3
I just found your channel tonight after my husband played me the OG Ethersea theme (I've never listened to TAZ... I know I need to) and to preface it, he was like, "oh my gosh, someone mentioned this sounds like Clair de Lune!" Duh 🤦♀️ It was sweet, though. He knows I love Debussy - I have my bachelor's in vocal music ed and sang a lot of Debussy in college. Anyway, this led me down the rabbit hole of your channel to your arrangements and original compositions and I am absolutely blown away by your musicality. From the moment this video started, I could feel your connection to the music. Your attention to detail, specifically dynamics, is outstanding. It really draws the listener in. And your original works are so poignantly written and performed! I haven't gotten through them all, but what I have heard was lovely. There are many layers there and while the tone of most are cheerful, there's a deeper sense of wit and whimsy that I really appreciate. You've probably heard this in masterclasses, studio recitals, and workshops, but even through the internet, your passion and dedication to music are apparent. I enjoy listening to your works and you've absolutely crushed it! Congrats on the dual Master's degrees! That's no easy feat but damn, are they well earned. Thank you for sharing your beautiful music with the world. I'm glad I found your channel and I look forward to hearing what's to come!
@@Kdnacht621 I can’t even describe what your comment means to me!! First of all, thank you for taking the time to listen to my other content but also for letting me know how it impacted you 🩷 This can often be a thankless job where I’m left questioning if anyone even cares about the little details I spend hours agonizing over. Your kind words especially mean a lot coming from a fellow musician! I post more music semi-regularly on tiktok (@sleepypianist), as it’s a bit more of a casual platform than youtube at the moment. If you want more satirical songwriting, that’s where to find it! Thank you again for your encouragement! It means the world to me!
two years late to this (and seven years late to taz) but this composition is amazing!!! i love your playing and the way you’ve made these songs your own.
Really impressive composition! Gah, maybe one day I’ll be able to hear this theme song and not have the urge to start Amnesty over again… unlikely, but maybe!
I LOVE this song! Your rendition of it was beautifully played and it looked like you had so much fun playing it! I will be learning it. Thank you for sharing the sheet music! :)
can i use this for a song cover ?
So good!
this is pretty freaking wonderful
I’m so honored you listened to it! I tried to capture the same unhinged, unsettling, but deeply sorrowful vibe you helped create in the original show. Thank you!!
This gave me literal chills, beautiful rendition
I love this song so much!great job ❤
So beautiful!🥹
god i want this at my wedding
Idk why I only find this now but the pacing and emotion you add into the song with your play really just did something with me. Great work 👏
Boys workin' on empty Is that the kinda way to face the burning heat? I just think about my baby I'm so full of love I could barely eat There's nothing sweeter than my baby I'd never want once from the cherry tree 'Cause my baby's sweet as can be She give me toothaches just from kissin' me When my time comes around Lay me gently in the cold dark earth No grave can hold my body down I'll crawl home to her Boys, when my baby found me I was three days on a drunken sin I woke with her walls around me Nothin' in her room but an empty crib And I was burnin' up a fever I didn't care much how long I lived But I swear I thought I dreamed her She never asked me once about the wrong I did When my time comes around Lay me gently in the cold dark earth No grave can hold my body down I'll crawl home to her When my time comes around Lay me gently in the cold dark earth No grave can hold my body down I'll crawl home to her My baby never fret none About what my hands and my body done If the Lord don't forgive me I'd still have my baby and my babe would have me When I was kissing on my baby And she put her love down soft and sweet In the low lamp light I was free Heaven and hell were words to me When my time comes around Lay me gently in the cold dark earth No grave can hold my body down I'll crawl home to her When my time comes around Lay me gently in the cold dark earth No grave can hold my body down I'll crawl home to her
Beautiful thank you
Hauntingly beautiful. Outstanding!
Hi! This is amazing! I've actually been learning this theme on a whim because every time I think to revisit it, it moves me so much. I've been working on it for a couple days now and only just realized that I was using your arrangement to practice it! You did an amazing job at making a little baby-brained hobbyist like me able to understand and read it, so big kudus! You do amazing work! <3
I so needed to hear this! I needed to take a little youtube break but comments like yours remind me why i do any of this in the first place. I'm happy I could make beautiful music like this more accessible!
This sounds so fun!!
it IS fun! some of the most fun i've had on a recording project!
i started listening on the TAZ ethersea video, the way you play is incredible!!
thanks for being a repeat listener! <3
This is awesome
i haven't really listened to the adventure zone much after the first couple of campaigns but this was enough to convince me to start listening again ❤️ so so beautifully played and arranged!!
It sound amazing, I would love to hear you play Sunlight
commission me and its yours!
I am pissed at the youtube algorithm for only having you at 26k and 567 subs! You are criminally underrated!!!!
😂 your indignation is much appreciated. i dont think the algorithm likes it when creators only post once in a blue moon...
Stunning work!
Love it
Gave this a re-listen after about a year and it still blew me away with how sensitive and subtly emotional it is. Simply fantastic.
i really appreciate you coming back and sharing your kind words <3 thank you!
Cute cat! Beautiful music! thank you for sharing your performance!
Ah! So beautiful <3 Your arrangements always move me to tears, thank you for sharing!!
ok wow. got genuine chills during the finish
do you have any tips for learning this? That last crescendo seems relatively difficult so if you have any tips for the entirety of the piece or just that section I’m all ears!!! Beautiful arrangement as well, thank you so much for sharing this.
hi there! i'm terribly sorry i'm only just now seeing this. if you're still working on my arrangement, you're in luck! i'm also a piano teacher! that last fortissimo section is tricky - i even struggle with it in my own video haha. my best "in a nutshell" advice is this: recognize the pattern of chords to give yourself a framework, work hands apart, and slowly speed up over time.
oh wow how did I not see this one before? it's incredible!
Bravo!
this is so sick!!! not just even the incredible arrangement but even just the character you bring to it while playing is so lovely
Wow! 😍 so beautiful 10/10
Awesome!!
Ok NOW I understand why this sounded so familiar. Their theme is so close to Claire de la Lune, but oh so beautifully played here...
Ah, you smashed this! Such a treat to listen to 😮
IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL ❤️❤️❤️
I wish your channel had so many more TAZ fans listening to it! I really appreciate all the videos you've made for us and they all really helped me get through my finals this quarter :') thank you again!! i look forward to seeing everything else you'll make :D
thoughtful performance and selection. A year later, it still feels like the moment
I just want to say thank you. taz has gotten me through some hard times and the music always is comforting. even though ethersea was last season this song has a lot of nostalgia for me. keep doing what you are doing. we all appreciate it
great fuckin work dudeski! subbed :)
same headphones :)
beautiful!!! brought me to tears <333
Tears to my eyes. Thank you for sharing this.
hey do you or anyone reading this know where i can listen to the music that plays for cabria the big big worm god of bio mass thing.
I love this arrangement!
Beautiful piece! Reminds me of Respighi a bit! Continue to revel in your work!
Thank you! Will do!
Ever plan on doing the Commodore's theme? Great stuff btw.
I hadn't thought of it! I've only done a few Graduation themes. I liked the music so much but wasn't gripped by the story. When I need the inspiration I'll give it a listen and see what I can do! If it's something you'd like to hear/play sooner than later I take commissions. :)
