Ed Bickert 🎧 Live at George's ♠ Jazz Guitar 1975 LP Full Album
It's always with a sense of victory that l sit back and grin when l hear music that is not afraid of being quiet, kind, and pretty. Such is the case with this record. l put it on and l heard some pieasant, relaxing sounds and that was that. Until the music stopped and suddenly l was missing its company. Nice music to go to sleep with and nice to wake up to. Would sound good on a sandy beach at sunset. Nice sound skiing down a slope too.
That's one of the reatly big troubles with this sort of sound : it'll never tell you the same story. It'll challenge your mood every time you hear it. And should you get really careless and listen, note for note, you‘ll wonder how come you hadn't heard that phrase like that before. It's maddeningly delightful.
It's even more maddening when you know the songs well and you are trying to remove years of dust oft the lyrics. Why aren't the lyrics on the back of this album you think. But I just told you that I couldn't remember them didn't l ? Besides, who knows what lyrics Ed Bickert was thinking about when he phrased these impossible slips, slides, runs and turns. Not to mention Don Thompson. Have you ever tried to paint white on white by numbers ? These guys probably do that every day.
What l've been trying to say ail this time is that Ed Bickert's Ed Bickert is full of challenging subtleties from all involved. But now, let me clear things up : Take this record home with you and play it a tot. Maybe you'll solve the riddle and surely your ears will love you.
And after all is said — or unsaid — it might as well be spring, indeed ! Smile...

Red Norvo Trio ♠ Tal Farlow & Red Mitchell ♠ Complete Recordings HQ AUDIO
มุมมอง 9K6 ปีที่แล้ว
At first glance, the album cover may be misleading. You may think it means that the CD contains the complete recordings of the Red Norvo Trio. But in fact this is only a slice (albeit a very good one) from the work of various trios that Red Norvo led in the 1950s. The most famous trio included Charlie Mingus as bassist, who was with the group in 1950 and 1951. An LP by that trio called "Move" h...
Boogaloo Joe Jones ♠ Psychedelic Jazz Guitar ♠ 1967 Full Album LP
มุมมอง 569K6 ปีที่แล้ว
Based in New Jersey, guitarist Ivan Boogaloo Joe Jones was one of the earliest of a new group of soulful players signed to Prestige in the late 1960s. Along with Houston Person and Charles Earland, they signposted the way for a funky blues-drenched jazz that would dominate the label’s releases over the following four or five years. Jones’ first record was released in early 1968. Its title, ...
Buddy Fite ♠ Tasty ♠ Unknown Jazz Guitar (1975) Full Album L
มุมมอง 29K6 ปีที่แล้ว
Although virtually unknown except by a handful of true believers, Buddy Fite is nonetheless one of jazz guitar's most formidable talents. His technique — full of Kenny Burrell-style bluesy bends, Les Paul glissandos and piano-like chords that invoke Art Tatum — is traditional, yet astonishing. The title of this album is no mere catchphrase, but the musical heart and soul of sounds presented...
George Van Eps ♠ Seven String Guitar ♠ Jazz Guitar Legend 1967 HQ LP Full Album
มุมมอง 25K6 ปีที่แล้ว
George Van Eps was a quiet legend among jazz guitarists, one who as far back as the 1930s pioneered a harmonically sophisticated chordal/lead style that was eclipsed in influence by the single-string idioms of Charlie Christian and Django Reinhardt. Yet Van Eps, like his brassy colleague Les Paul, also stood apart from them as an iconoclastic inventor, designing a seven-string guitar in the lat...

My late brother, was a very good guitar player, back in the late 60s and into the early 70s...He had great taste in artists, and turned me on to Buddy Fite...I could not-and still cannot-understand how such a marvelous player stayed under the radar like he did...but, in an interview, he exuded a strange humbleness, a sort of "whatever attitude" concerning his abilities on guitar. He said, in effect, that anyone can do what he did, if they really put their minds into it!...Clearly, he had reservations about pursuing a more serious career...he was just a different kind of person. The poor guy eventually died from throat cancer, around the age of 60 or so. In an article I read, a story was told, that Buddy was attending a guitar festival of sorts, and taking his turn on a stage, blowing people's minds, when none other than Les Paul walked up to him, and pulled his cord out, saying jokingly to the audience--"Anyone who can play THIS good, should not even be allowed to play!" I am sure that Les quickly plugged Buddy's guitar back in, and quickly, as Buddy Fite stood six feet six, and weighed close to 300lbs! Can you believe that the Pacific NW spawned two guitar greats, Buddy, and Jimi Hendrix too? Amazing, really! It is said, that Buddy studied, and achieved playing ultra fast runs, by listening to Les Paul albums...he apparently did not know, that Les had speeded up his licks considerably, by tape manipulation! Buddy had such stunning technique!

The fact that music in this time period was so participatory and collective that Boogaloo Joe could cover Donovan is great. Let's also discuss how anti-racist this was, as Donovan was not Black.

There Is A Mountain was a song that 1960's pop folk rock singer Donovan recorded. Time after Time - a great ballad and jazz standard is given a great reading here, beginning in a contemplative mood, then going through a series of happy choruses on guitar, then a very nice piano solo reminiscent of jazz great George Shearing, before finishing in the mood the track began with, in a gentle, reflective style.

Ed Bickert was one of the greatest masters of the instrument (and music). But wow, check out the playing of Don Thompson and Terry Clarke too on this recording (both masters in their own right).

A completely natural, self taught musician who never left the Oregon backcountry. He worked in lumber mills and was for a time a member of The Hells Angels. He refused to fly so the producer has to fly to the middle Oregon to produce the session! I love music and all its amazing nonconformist characters.

Always felt that Boogaloo J J felt what Grant Green felt and expressed it with even more funk . Boogaloo J J got air play on KBCA jazz radio in early 70's , that's how I came to know about him . God bless all you funky souls out there that dig it too !
