VET TECH VLOG | FREE VACCINES AND MICROCHIPS
Hello everyone! enjoy this video as my clinic paired with the SHELL FCU. My best friend works for marketing with shell and uses my clinic for her personal pets. She is very grateful for what my doctors have done for her pet and wanted to let everyone know the kind of clinic we are. We administered 100 rabies vaccines and 100 microchips to our community at no cost and everyone was so grateful!!

Who tf throws a dog out of a car window on a highway?!? 😢 Thank y’all for all you do for these babies
thank you so much! we definitely don’t do it for the money. you have to truly love animals. this is one of the most low paying fields. people are evil human beings to such innocent animals. that story wasn’t even the worst one unfortunately.
Why e-tube on the side rather than in the middle of the mouth? What If he wakes up accidentally and begins biting it?
i did not realize that actually at the time. it is okay either side (middle or side). when we do dental cleanings it’s on the side just like that. you just have to be careful with bending it certain ways. it was not doing harm the way it was laying during his procedure though. also! we monitor very closely to make sure he doesn’t wake up. we pay attention to vitals, blood pressure etc and same thing for when the procedures are over because they can do exactly that as far as biting the tube and choking if you’re not monitoring close enough. i hope that makes sense!

@@marissaelizabeth5703would you mind talking about why you ended up leaving the field for a while and then decided to come back? I see so many techs say they ended up leaving for burnout or low pay or stress; I’d love to hear your thoughts!
@@hayleymalesa79 yes would you like it in a video or a response?
@@marissaelizabeth5703 Whatever’s easier for you (: although a video might be cool for posterity in case other people find your channel and want to hear your perspective on that subject as well! 🙂
@@hayleymalesa79 I’ll do a response to you but I’ll definitely make a detailed video. So for those who have entered the field are very familiar and know the field is very rough mentally and physically. It drains you all around. The hours are long. You don’t always work for the best or honest doctors. Clinics can be very toxic just like any other job. The pay isn’t the best. You can get a license but I have never went to school for several reasons, I don’t have the money if I’m being honest and most of my friends that are licensed only make a couple dollars more than me and are in crazy debt. That’s just my opinion. I would never tell someone not to go to school if I had the money I would definitely go. My honest reason for leaving and why I stopped posting was because I did not find myself at a clinic where I felt valued. It put me in a horrible state mentally and made me question my self worth as a tech. In the beginning yes I absolutely thought I was at the best clinic and everyone was a team and family but as time went on it was not that way. I felt like my mistakes were being used against me instead of me being able to learn from from them. I was feeling extremely burnt out to the point where i was hating veterinary medicine. I did not enjoy going to work. I told myself I was done for good. The doctor was absolutely amazing and taught me so much. I learned so much from her. That was the clinic where I learned all of my technician skills. I put in my 2 weeks and left on good terms no bad feelings at all I still speak with the Dr. it just wasn’t meant to be for me. I decided to find office job M-F that fit my schedule for that time being of 7 months and told myself worst comes to worst I have so much vet experience if something happens I have that to fall back on. I was really relieved and was actually able to catch up on so many bills making like 600$ more than what I was making in the vet field. Then as time went on I really missed animals so much and decided I wanted to go back but I wanted to look closer to to my house and I applied at a clinic super close and I got the job. I’m so much happier mentally and I work with the best doctors. I’ve never worked with such amazing people. I literally love waking up everyday and going to work. I can not explain the feeling. I literally feel like I’m at home when I go to work I know it sounds weird, but I’m life everything happens for a reason and I feel I went through all of that to get me to the best hospital and best dr and co workers. Everyone is a team literally. There is no drama. I’ve never worked in an environment like this it’s all positivity good energy. I’m so blessed. I could cry just typing this 🥹 but I will definitely make a video!
I'm looking into becoming a veteran assistant and idk where to start, do u have any pointers
that’s awesome!. You can try volunteering at your local shelter for the experience or you can just apply to clinics as either an assistant or kennel tech and you will learn. Just make sure when you’re applying to clinics you ask them what their requirements are. Some want people with experience and some don’t mind the training with no experience. I hope this helps! if you any other questions feel free to ask. 🙂
@@marissaelizabeth5703mam I also have 6 years working experience in veterinary assistant from India. Have there any opportunities. Suggest me from where I can start

@@jennamarie2017 congratulations that is awesome! What state are you in? I’m in TX and in TX to practice as a technician you do not need a license, some clinics require it some do not. Just get all the information when speaking with the practice manager of that clinic before hand.
@@marissaelizabeth5703 thank you so much. I am in Maryland! I decided to take the classes so I had a little bit of knowledge before going into the field, and my classes were paid for through a program for people affected by covid. I am sooo beyond nervous so I have been watching so many videos. I'm a very hands on learner but all of my classes have been on the computer. It's a little nerve wracking to read and read and not do these skills hands on, so thank goodness for the externship coming up. If I may ask do you have any advice for me going into the field for the first time? Im kinda just scared of the unknown I think. Thank you!!
@@marissaelizabeth5703 I just sent you a text! Thank you! :)
What are those in yellow tubes? Never seen them before.
For urine cultures if we are sending out to our outside labs! we sometimes use the white ones if it’s your regular routine checkup urine but for special circumstances ruin like ongoing urinary tract infections or cultures we will send them in the yellow tubes
No pressure
Yeah but it sucks I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. I need to try the Petsmart one!
Petco had a self wash that's so cool
Pet smart is the worst place to take your dog for a bath.
This was not Petsmart it was petco. I should of gone to Petsmart! Did you see that water pressure? 🤣 and that literal water they gave me for “bathing soap”….never again. I just wanted to film my dog could care less where it was at. He’s good for baths no matter the place so it doesn’t matter.
why doesn't some veterinary hospitals have an overnight tech to watch over the patients.
They do it’s considered the emergency hospital but your average clinic that is open from 8-6pm they don’t have techs over night because we are not an emergency hospital. I hope that answers your question:)

Yes ma’am problay looked harsh. I clean his ears the same way monthly no issues what so ever. He actually leans into it he loves his ears being cleaned and ear rubs. He’s not the typical shepherd that hates ear things being done.

Tech, our “assistants” are the kennel techs.
@@marissaelizabeth5703 oh okay! Did you go to school? And how long have you been in the field(:
@@horses2756 No I don’t. I’ve explained my reasoning and why I chose not to go school in some of my video comments. I’ve been in the field for 5 years now! :)
do vet techs make enough to support themselves? I wanna be a vet tech but I'm not sure.
Yes and no. Depending on what state you’re in some states pay higher than others and also based on experience as well as if you’re licensed but tbh even with a license you make almost the same un licensed. That’s why I’m my opinion I won’t go through schooling to pay 5k just to make 22$ an hour. That’s not worth it to me. You also make like 25,000 per YEAR.
@@marissaelizabeth5703 What state are you in ?
@@sinnyy7477 I’m in Houston Texas
@@marissaelizabeth5703 ok thank you so much😁❤️
@@sinnyy7477 of course! Also do your research for your state they may have different regulations.
For future vet tech students, what do you recommend or what should we expect on the job? Real talk. Hows the book work, any voultenteer work, should we always be expected to put an animal down? Is it worth it, or should I just become a vet?
The number one thing is you definitely DO NOT get to play with kittens and puppies all day. There are days where you will see sick patients back to back. Yes! you can volunteer at your local animal shelter to gain some experience. Euthanasia’s are definitely something I struggle with and I’ve been doing it for so long it’s very emotional for me. Don’t always expect to put an animal down but just know veterinary medicine is black and white. There’s not always a guarantee of things turning out okay if that makes sense. To be honest the pay is not the best. I do not have a license but I’ve done my research and even with a license you don’t make that much either. From what my Dr’s tell me they highly do NOT recommend this field to anyone. Due to the highest suicide rates and the pay. Techs/Dr’s and veterinary medicine in general is very under paid. There’s more to it and it’s reasoning but it will always be that way. Unless say you stay working for the same Dr 25 years plus of course you get your raises but they do not pay much at all. You will be so lucky to even make 25-30$ an hour. I’m not sure how much the doctors make but I have a friend that is licensed and she only makes 22$. To me that is not worth it to go pay 3k for school to make 22$ an hour. I love animals I love what I do but this is not a job I see myself doing for the rest of my life because of the pay unfortunately.
He's very patient. And he does like the attention. But I think that with their super-sensitive sense of smell, shampoo must be almost overwhelming for dogs. He puts up with it, though. He sure is a good dog!
Thank you he is my sweet boy 🥺❤️
I hope there are unscented products.
@@genxx2724 I just saw your comment. Nope they’re scented. He does fine. His skin isn’t sensitive like that. Been bathing him in all kinds of scented products for years and even doggy colognes that smell so good 🙂
Just begun my studies in animal rescue and rehabilitation advanced cert. Will further my studies to pursue an animal technician role. Why oh why did I waste 25 odd years as a welder working for people who didn't care about me and gave no appreciation. Animals don't want anything from you except love and respect and give it back ten fold. Even if they don't show it you know they appreciate what you do for them.........cant wait for my chance. just subbed cant wait to watch more . G'day from Western Australia mate :)
It is lonely to have one comment. This is my 1st comment on this channel
Thank you!!
Hi there♥️😊
Same with my clinic as well! Us techs do everything from admin/reception to lab work to treatment to surgery to consult assist! 😃
It was overwhelming at first but I’m used to it now
Getting into this in the fall, and I'm both excited and nervous. 1st year tech student, and I'm over here like DAAAYUM they let you have a smart watch and hair down! My school is super strict about having your hair up at all times and no smart devices, just old time watches :(
I would imagine schools would be strict about that! I know some clinics are strict about apple watches because of texting and stuff but my clinic is okay with it. Yes we can wear makeup have our hair down up but I don’t wear makeup because of how much I sweat it’s pointless to me! especially with the mask and curbside
You’re dead ass doing technician work and assistant work . You do so much more then the techs at job do .
We don’t have a permanent kennel tech or technician or surgery tech or receptionist. My clinic we all do everything.
@@marissaelizabeth5703same in my clinic.
I’m a vet assistant and I think it’s So wild to see you doing stuff with out an assistant holding the patient !
Yes I said the same thing because at my first clinic they did everything with an assistant but most of the clinics I’ve worked at if we can do things safely by ourselves obviously if the dog isn’t being aggressive or trying to bite us then we can do it and if we need a muzzle we muzzle them and we can definitely ask for help if we need it
I took my dog to our vet (been going there for 10 years) and we didn’t get our usual vet tech person, we got the guy who’s always on reception. He inserted the needle 5 times and my dog cried in pain, he was scared of my dog and kept putting in and pulling out the needle and jumping back. 😭
Some clinics cross train their employees for example my clinic. We all do everything. We do receptionist, assist in surgery and technician. Also it sounds like it may have been a heartworm test he was trying to get and sometimes it takes a few times to poke. Every dog has different veins so sometimes we can get it the first try sometimes we can’t but you can always let your technician know “hey if you could please just poke 2 times or 1 and if you can’t get it please get someone else” and they will be completely okay with it. 😃 My doberman puppy is also like that...we can’t even get a temp on him at work because he is screaming bloody murder 😂 (just trying to get his way because he is not being hurt)
@@marissaelizabeth5703 it was just the yearly vaccine shot..he said he was too scared of our dog..thank you, I will politely ask for someone else next time, I was too scared to ask. 😊
this all looks so interesting, but how were you able to go to an actual clinic and farm for an online school? I still have a year left before college, so I just wanted to plan ahead
My job pays for my CVA’s. I never had the experience. The doctor I worked for when I first started liked to hire people without experience and train them his way but most corporate clinics require experience. Just ask them what they require!
@@marissaelizabeth5703 ok got it thanks for the help!
I just thought that everyone went to a college for it and since all the people that I've seen went to Penn Foster and other online colleges, I though you might have also went. I'm still new at learning about this and you're videos help a lot with what to expect on the field so thank you!
Aww I’m glad! No I don’t. I got my level 1 CVA through my job and I’m doing my level 2 CVA currently. You can definitely go to school to get your degree for it but people have different preferences like me but whatever works for you :) I need to post more but to be honest it’s hard this field is super busy! But I will be posting soon ❤️
I got on the job training with no experience and have been doing it since 2016 :)
wow you do A LOT more cleaning than all the techs at my job. Thank you for that.
Every clinic is different. We don’t have a kennel technician. Everyone does everything including surgery, receptionist, drop offs and technician. That way if someone ever calls in we all know how to do everything and we can all fill in everywhere :)
Frank the tank, keep up the good work. love the channel!
You have to make sure your in it for the love and care of caring for pets because clients are very ungrateful, entitled asses. Pay isn't great, not every clinic offers retirement or ins. You get attacked and scratched and peed on anal gland and the clients are no help you have to educate them on common knowledg. Suicide rate in this field is high. Anxiety/stress is very very high.
Yes literally!! very fast paced as well. Coming into this field I didn’t know how high the suicide rate was until my doctors told me but for sure I can see why. Not every case is gonna be a great outcome. Every doctor tries the best that they can and sometimes people don’t want to put their pets through certain things depending on the circumstances but i love my job because of my love and passion for animals.
