    I think the service time is a little overstated for Skenes. Whether his talent was MLB ready or not, he never pitched close to the workload a full MLB season has. For him to come up in May was necessary to allow him to pitch through the end of the season - giving him that time to ramp up. To say Skenes doesn't deserve the award due to being 2-4 starts short just incentivizes teams from bringing up phenom rookies sooner. Pittsburgh is going to be penalized for this award because he didn't meet the service time requirement, but was good enough to win anyway. The Pirates may have been better overall if they just left Skenes in the minors for the whole year and instead gave him the full 2025. Would you have preferred that? If this were an MVP conversation, the games-played would have more weight to it, especially since pitchers already have the CYA. But there is no pitcher ROTY award for Skenes, so they are forced to compete against each other, even when their roles are not exactly comparable. That being said, it wasn't as much of a snub as it appears on narrative alone. Merrill may have been super clutch, while playing a premium position, but the 156 games he played this year only garnered him 4.4 baseball-reference WAR (5.3 fangraphs WAR). Skenes, without the whole month of April, accumulated 5.9 baseball reference WAR (4.3 fangraphs WAR). Skenes was able to accumulate more of a results-based, cumulative stat (bWAR) than Merrill, in fewer games played. The value there kinda offsets the games-played factor. Also, the Kerkering over Skenes because he pitched the whole year is hilarious lol 133.0 IP "not a full year" but 63.0 IP "pitched the whole year"

    If Roki Sasaki knows business and takes the smart route, he should sign with the Yankees. He alone will be the only Japanese star and his Jerseys will likely sell more in the east coast. This allows him to leverage the Yankee market to attract more endorsements.

      Or he chooses the team he thinks has the biggest chance to win? not always about the money

    • @asianbaseballers
      @asianbaseballers หลายเดือนก่อน

      @dvsat12 true, but his agent will probably have a say on what's the best for his financial future. Keep in mind, he is forgoing a possible 300-400 million bucks to possibly come to the MLB early because of NPB free agency rules. It won't be about money for at least 2 years, which means he would have to make money in endorsements for now. This could influence his decision. If he goes to the Yankees, Sasaki vs Ohtani in a pitching matchup is a much better sell than them being on the same team. Dodgers vs Yankees. Imagine that matchup in the World Series? Or in a regular season game, for that matter?

    • @asianbaseballers
      @asianbaseballers หลายเดือนก่อน

      @dvsat12 in a best financial gain for the MLB, it benefits them to have a rivalry rather than vice versa. Munetaka Murakami has expressed his willingness to be a Yankee. If Sasaki signs with the Yankees and with Murakami there, it creates a dream scenario of Murakami, Sasaki vs Yoshi, Ohtani. This kid has been on the radar for many years with both the Dodgers and Yankees. The Yankees already lost out on Ohtani and Yoshi, whom they scouted for many years. This gives the Yankees motivation to not lose out on Sasaki if they make it clear that they will sign Murakami after 2025 season. This could convince Sasaki to sign with the Yankees if the eventual financial gain is much greater than the Dodgers.

    Keith Hernandez not being in the HOF is an absurdity. Olerud getting less than 1% of the vote is absurd. But he played in the peak of devastating first base sluggers and most of those guys didn’t get in either. Seems like a bit of HOF bias. All those guys did was defend well beyond their compatriots, give you well above average seasons without giving you superstar monster seasons, and WIN. EVERYWHERE. THEY. WENT. That HAS to count for something, yet it seems it doesn’t. They made their teams instantly better all the time, no matter the situation. Not a lot of players can say that.

    I know that Brian McCann was not one of the best catchers ever, but he had a solid career. Seven time all-star, six-time silver slugger, he hit 282 career home runs, but his WAR is very low, just 32 career WAR. I do believe he'll get some consideration. Great video!

    Both white and black baseball players played winter ball in the Caribbean. To, as he says, make money. They weren't paid millions and millions until free agency cam about in the 70s. Barnstorming is still barnstorming and while there is some seriousness to it, there is also an exhibition quality to it and frequently the "local" team were a bunch of folks from the local factory. That's part of why barnstorming stats aren't included. That said, who can say that when, in a barnstorming game, pitcher X did or didn't bear down against hitter Y. Honus Wagner said it was an honor to be compare to Pop Lloyd (look him up). But Satchel Paige wasn't even the greatest Negro League pitcher. In a poll, the Negro League players themselves voted "Smokey" Joe Williams as the greatest Negro League pitcher. Satchel Paige was more of a showman and self promoter so he gets more press.

      Ruth dominated the black pitchers, but the bigger story was, the Babe enjoyed playing against Negro League players; he respected them as ballplayers and men. Ruth was so damn humble and decent. Came from very humble origins. Thats why Babe Ruth will always be the greatest baseball player ever.

    It's a slippery slope when you start comparing numbers between leagues, unfortunately. I have no doubt that Gibson was among the greatest hitters of his generation, but comparing his 43 numbers to Ty Cobb doesn't really work. Same with comparing his amount of HRs to Ruth. Ruth did a ton of barnstorming as well, for instance. By all accounts, Gibson was an incredible talent, and that's enough for me.

    Wow how awesome was it for Satchel and Josh to become good friends and ending up playing with and against each other during the prime of their careers. That’s like ‘99 Pedro playing with ‘01 Bonds but still not being quite as good as Satch and Josh. That’s hella extra super crazy to think about. Now also remember, if Satchel said Josh was “SuperHuman”, it only means that Satchel had to be “SuperHuman” himself. I could only imagine the unbelievable legendary stories that were being told just from this short period of time. And the fact of how all of these the stories being told by so many different ppl have somehow remarkably stayed on key only makes them more logical to believe. Nowadays you can’t even get a story to stay the same for a week and that’s even with having the internet to document every last single thing. Just proves that Life can be very unknowingly interesting at times. Make sure you take it all in! (⏸️)
