Yeah, if return by death is a witch factor authority, then it would probably be envy. No because of the witch, and because it’s an inherently envious ability- afterall Subaru envies the version of himself in the better alternatives, so he can use return by death to become them. And it’s also great story wise, because the more he develops and better he becomes, the less he would need to die to do that- because he wouldn’t need to envy others.

The funny thing is if he could spend 3 to 5 years training and not dying he could become the world's most deadly assassin easily. Every time he got caught he'd just return from death (hopefully to post-training) and try again.

The "Blackhands" that you mentioned is The Authority of Sloth. Subaru gained that power after defeating Petelgeus.

Satella can use shadow hands. Petelgeus's authority of sloth is unseen hands which is by the way not the same as shadow hands of satella. But subaru who inherited the sloth witch factor can only use invisible Providence aka one unseen hand
