Double Trouble Homestead
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 31 ธ.ค. 2022
When the world went crazy so did I- but in that "Let's become homesteaders, buy all the animals, can our own food, water glass our eggs, and run around barefoot all day" kind of way.
We left the city, built a garden, made a clearing in the woods, put up 4 chicken coops, built 7 quail enclosures and an aviary. We grow our own food, cook from scratch, and make our own beauty and cleaning products.

Thanks for the video and I was just checking you said something about button quail eggs do you happen and do you happen to raise them button quail?
She was a fairy🧚🧚♀️🧚♂️
I've seen them free ranged, but it has to be done very carefully and with lots of protection/fencing, sometimes a moveable hoop for "moveable free range"
Hey, I love your litter idea! Do you have a video on how you achieved it?
God bless you. Christ loves you. Go Yiye Avila, Billy Graham and Joshua Yiron. Amen Hallelujah Glory to God ❤❤❤😊
My quail went missing from the school😢
@@marijoyatienza8214 I'm sorry to hear that!
Buddy it has to be under a chicks a$$ to hatch 🐣🍑🐓
Awww❤They’re not disasters, they’re JUST ADORABLE!!!!❤❤❤😊
Facebook groups and Craigslist
I just got them about 3 weeks ago, they grow really fast
@@Hmach4r yes they do
This is half true. Difficult to free range? Yes. Impossible? No. A well designed Johnny box with a breeding male and his females kept up top will recall their flock at night in the johnny box
@@Levikrw that's true it's more difficult than impossible. Most people don't really want to hear about clipping wings. I'll have to look into a Johnny box
🎉
Your beautiful Ashley!
Thank you for this
I've got Dogs My Quail and Chicken will live a good life
I have the same type of quail and they let me pick them up touch them and hand feed them and really don’t get scared
@@Antwan731 my newest batch are far more friendly. I wonder if it's becasue I raise them with my rabbits so they learned to come running by watching them
My sister wants to know how many quail you have?
@@TheCritterCorner620 at the moment I have about 100. I used to have 1000
@@doubletroublehomestead wow
I have a suggestion for the egg stand to make it look more creative! A colorful eggshell display along with the photos of the chickens/quails that laid that colorful egg! Here's what you gotta do: take a pretty egg and try to empty it out without cracking it open completely and pass a string through it or use glue (you can also use glue on the shells to close em back up if they do crack open completely) then just hang the eggs under the photos of the hens that laid them and maybe even give a brief bio of the hen like her breed, age and average annual egg production and also their names if they have individual names! 😄 I think it'd give your stand a welcoming and unique vibe and you'll definitely have people asking for chickens and fertile eggs if you wanna tap into that market too. All the best out there!<3
@@blackblue4287 Thanks for the recommendation! That's definitely a fun idea
I hope you're okay
How much space would you recommend per? And what should I start with a par or eggs?
Can you do a video on how to hatch them?
@@TheCritterCorner620 I do plan on doing one!
@@doubletroublehomestead Ok, thanks.🥰🥰🥰
What should I name my channel I'm going to start a new one it's sort of going to be like building up to a farm right now I have five chickens I really want quail and ducks and maybe even goats but right now I only have five chickens what should I call my new channel?
@@TheCritterCorner620 I'm honestly not good with coming up with channel names
@@doubletroublehomestead that's ok.
Yes yes yes yes yes that's what I think
My father was a world-class champion canary breeder and kept about a dozen Chinese Painted Quail on the floor of his (large) aviary. There was a constant supply of eggs, which I used to hard boil, (it only takes a minute) and pickle in aspic jelly. Quail's eggs in aspic are something of a gourmet delicacy...but my friends and I used to eat them most days at school!
@@pietersanders7761 I've heard of a lot of people doing that with Chinese painted quail. Pretty cool. I've never eaten their eggs though
I enjoyed your story and you should have kept on making videos. I remember when the shtf and there was a limit on how many gallons of water you could buy, and my family of 7 couldn't buy any more than a family of one. Pathetic and downright sick! Yep, we went to the feed store to buy more chicks and there was a line of people buying them, a line I had never seen before. Hopefully a lot of those people are still raising chickens. My chickens love raw chicken meat, and I'm all for that. They eat plenty of grasshoppers around our house and it goes into making delicious eggs.
@@MickSupper I'm sorry you had to go through that! I think a lot of people are still getting into chickens. I love the homesteading life
😂 I can see that happening. Great explanation of the rabbit hole.
What is a food forest? Our homestead is literally in the forest. We've only cleared enough trees for buildings and paths. Until 3 years ago this land was national forest and we intend to keep it as forest. The birds love it and so will the goats and rabbits coming soon. I've got a greenhouse and outdoor kitchen started with a great spot next to it for growing things.
A food forest is when you plant fruit trees on the outside, then fruit bushes and keep planting towards the middle. It's a way to hide your garden and do companion planting. Look up pictures it's pretty cool
@doubletroublehomestead I just did, thinking of ways I can incorporate that idea into where we are. I've found a couple of pecan trees and there's lots of blackberries. That area doesn't have too much undergrowth, so maybe a possible location. No need to hide anything, except to keep it far enough away from where my chickens roam.
@@joycepillow8143 haha yeah I'm not hiding mine either it just looks beautiful. And I know what you mean by keeping the chickens away
nice
We just got our first few quail a couple of weeks ago. They're adorable and so much fun. Trying to find somewhere to get more
@@joycepillow8143 I'll be shipping again in a few weeks!
@doubletroublehomestead I'll keep my eyes out for that. If you can ship just girls that would be great. We have one tiny rooster named Mal, just wanting to get more hens. They're cohabitating with some baby guineas at the moment so they're not lonely but those keets will be bigger than them soon and will be getting relocated.
@@joycepillow8143 I would only be shipping eggs
Since when can you tell the gender?
@@bruhanimatie you can tell their gender between 6 and 8 weeks
Well don’t lock them in a cage and farm them if you’re gonna complain about how they behave. You’re profiting off their lives and you also want them to act up to your expectations?
got it
Chicken math is so real!
This is amazing I’d love to see more about this and quail

@@TheCritterCorner620 nice! Up near Scranton
@@doubletroublehomestead wow not too far from us we live near Philadelphia
I would so love to get a pair of Coturnix quail from you but I still have to convince my parents
Eeeeiiihhnnnd
This is what I want to do and this is what I'm going to do
How long do you fermentate the food?
@@pacocruz9173 between 2 and 3 days. I usually prefer 2
@@doubletroublehomestead I am going to try that. The purpose of fermentation is? There are more nutrients to doing this and less if a mess? Thank you very much for your response and time :)
@@pacocruz9173 fermenting the food makes so they better absorb the nutrients so they eat less. And yes they waste less too
@@doubletroublehomestead thank you.
So nice chicks and quail brid you takecare very fram
So beautiful chicks your farm SO beautiful video
I like your all fram
So nice colour this quail
Quail is my favourite brid I like to join can you sale quail job this so good job egg so tasty..
Hi, what is the climate zone
@@Worldexplorr quail can adapt pretty well to weather. With the right housing they can tolerate down to -20°. I'm not sure how hot but I know people living in Texas who have quail and they do great
what good roof are you talking about?
I see a lot of people try and use tarps or netting as a roof. Not a terrible idea if done very well but snow and hard rain can mess that up fast. I use a tin roof for shade and because I get a lot of snow
Would you be willing to send me some quail eggs that u can hatch
I don't ship eggs at the moment
Call your local farm and see if they have any available!
Do you have heat lamp or you dont need it??
I use heat lamps until they're 10 days old in summer
To the general audience, please do not mix baby birds of different species if there are big differences in height and weight.
That's true. I don't always make myself clear
Crazy little guys. We have guineas and I feel like they must have a newsletter or something. One took off into the forest last night but fortunately came back this morning and was waiting patiently outside the coop for the other to come out and play. I wonder what adventure she had in the forest all night?
🤣 guineas are definitely one level higher on the tricky list from quail
