    Hey we had our fence put in for our new house recently and they didn’t put that white 60kg slab in like yours or any sort of wood like the neighbours, my fence is extremely low because of it, lower than all the neighbours and people can literally see into our house because one side in on the street. My question is is how they installed our fence legal or allowed? We have no privacy at all

      Good afternoon and thank you very much for the comment! Generally speaking 1800mm high is the standard fence height but depending on slopes of the land etc. it can end up been easy to look over. I always recommend the plinth which brings the fence to 2m high again depending on the levels of the slope If your fence is 1800mm high it’s probably within the regulations as far as council goes normally within 1800-2100mm high is the standard boundary fence. You might need to look into fence extensions to gain a extra 300mm of privacy

    do you guys cut the top oF the fence post level? or do these come all rough and jagged from the supplier? does a capping go over the post?

    • @Dqcdiyandsupply
      @Dqcdiyandsupply 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Ideally never want to cut the post if possible creates extra work and don’t want to cut with a grinder as it will eventually cause rust. Best is to get the correct length from supplier and set using a lasered level string line. They shouldn’t come rough and jagged from the supplier as the steel is cut to length as a flat colourbond sheet before been rolled into length. No capping over the post generally but they do make caps !

    Hi Luke, My name is Joe and I'm a chippy in Mount Gambier looking to branch off on my own doing pretty much just fencing, carports, retaining walls etc, like you seem to be doing but I'm not sure what prices are standard for fencing per meter, gates and concrete sleeper retaining wall per sqm. I got a rough idea but just wondering what your standard pricing is if you don't mind sharing. I know there's variables that need to be considered, slopes, corners, site prep etc but I assume there's a standard and then you add in the time of additional labour for site specific variables. Appreciate any help but I understand if you don't want to help me out with that. Your videos are great and I like the custom gate, looks much better than the sliding gate frames, especially with the custom flashing with the lapped corners 👌

    • @Dqcdiyandsupply
      @Dqcdiyandsupply 26 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi Joe, Good luck with the new venture. Fencing is usually $180 per lineal metre with a plinth and I always recommend a plinth. Then retaining I base off of a m2, retaining does vary a bit depending on access, sleeper type. However around $500 per m2. Gates vary depending if I’m doing other work at the property etc. I’m pretty busy so not wanting to just go and hang one gate unless it’s worth the time, so depending on travel can be up to $1200 supply and install and if I’m already on site doing the fencing as low as $400 Feel free to follow me on insta or Facebook which is the same as the channel name and we can chat there and subscribe for more videos 👌

    Nice video! Do you use 2700mm posts when using a plinth underneath? About to do my own colorbond fencing with a plinth underneath and was thinking with a standard 2400 post it would mean only 400mm in the ground. Little bit worried about it blowing over haha. Thanks!

    • @Dqcdiyandsupply
      @Dqcdiyandsupply หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes definitely longer posts. Depending on where you get the materials from usually they will do a longer posts stock. 2600 or 2650mm would be good. As you want a bit of concrete under the post as well so it’s not sitting it the dirt but the concrete on the bottom.

  • @karmicselling4252
    @karmicselling4252 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Thanks for the great video. Which is the most popular option for plinths? Concrete? Colorbond? Or timber (treated pine)? I imagine conrete sleepers are the most expensive. But I guess concrete or timber sleepers would be preferable where soil is placed against the fence line (eg. garden bed). Cheers.

    • @Dqcdiyandsupply
      @Dqcdiyandsupply หลายเดือนก่อน

      You’ll find it varies by location. Where I am in SA 99% are concrete. Well worth the investment to maximise the longevity of the fence. Aluminium plinths (Do not rust) powder coated to match the fence are another option and blend in well. However they do come at a price!

    Great video, I’m an old fart and will be doing fences next year on our new block, so it was good to see how the pros do it. Well done. On a windy day perhaps a couple of ocky straps hooked into each post on one side might be a good safe guard to stop the loose sheets floppy over while you are installing, though if the ladder works then all good. Good idea too about the inserts that set the correct sleeper height. I’m going to subscribe now 😊

    • @Dqcdiyandsupply
      @Dqcdiyandsupply 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for tuning into my videos and I appreciate the comment. Usually you would straddle the boundary, that would be the most common. However if retaining is involved because someone has cut the land or filled the land sometimes the retaining/fence would be “on the boundary” but on that persons land. If nothing is specified I would always recommend straddling the boundary because technically it’s a shared property
