Red Dog Road Podcast with Mark Zagger
Red Dog Road Podcast: Mark Zagger is among the most successful and knowledgeable coyote trappers in the country. Who else do you know that averages more than 130 coyotes in a season when the season is only three weeks long? That’s an astonishing six to seven successful sets per day when most trappers would consider that many in an entire season to be pretty good. Mark is just operating at a completely different level and that success led to his founding of Coyote U.
While Mark’s trapping success speaks for itself his talents extend far beyond the trapline and it’s easy to see why he’s accomplished so much. A particularly impressive trait he possesses is a willingness to continue asking questions and learning from others. He talks about the importance of always wanting to learn more in order to stay on top of your game, no matter what it is.
We cover a lot of ground in this show ranging from Mark’s philosophy on hunting, trapping, and the outdoors to the challenges posed by anti hunting and trapping initiatives.

63 pounds. I have only trapped TWO that broke 60-lbs out of thousands. Several over 50 lbs but even those are not as common as one might think. I'd guess I get ONE 50-lb coyote out of every 100 coyotes I catch in NY.

We had a inch of snow overnight and ill never forget the sight of three red foxes id caught that night. 24 years old at the time about and worked for min. wage I sold those for 75 dollars each back then. Loved that life but fur prices forced me to take a job traveling building golf courses. Got married and never went back.
