Where did you find the full score???
The Rolls-Royces of communion/mass settings.
All my hope by Herbert Howells???
all my hope
Oh this is incredible!!!
This is one of the finest motets written in the twentieth century. Absolutely masterful in text painting and use of vocal texture.

Nice performance of a lovely song. Thank you. ❤
well... this is a little heaven on earth.... in every way!
What an amazing setting-both exhilarating and disturbing at once.
Gosh, that looks like my score from CPDL!
Beautiful. Layton never disappoints.
Somehow those last six bars assail me with such beauty that it makes me cry.
This sounds great what was the criteria?
surprised he didn’t opt for a Gmaj chord at the end like seemingly everything else he does!
RSCM Choir course at Edinburgh under Michael English during the late 1980's. One of the most moving and heavenly pieces of choral music ever composed. 🙏👏
Superbe interprétation ! Juste dommage que le son soit loin.
This should have been filed in the 'student' folder and put in a cupboard. An embarrassing work redolent of nothing more than a total lack of awareness of sixteenth century technique...typical of its time though.
Absolutely splendid. Even having to hang on to that F# in the tenor line at the end (right in the 'crack'!), this one is simple, but, oh, so lush....
Howells at his greatest. Really well sung here, in my opinion. We did it a fair few times during my time as a treble, and it can be exhausting and the timing can get you unless you really concentrate. Do you not think that the phrase "we believe that thou shalt come to be our judge", beginning at 4:38, is one of the most wonderful musical phrases in the whole of western religious choral music? Thank you for the upload. 🙂
It´s sung in Gb a half note deeper, but it sounds nice.
One of the best musical pieces ever. Minutes 1:58 to 2:11 haunts me . Out of this world.
questo è un assoluto capolavoro..
The tuba😢😢
I have been looking for this since I left college in 97! I sang this with my college choir and haven’t been able to find it EVER till today! Right on time as I was studying Psalms 145!! Wow!!
This is nice!
Perfectly brilliant ,especially the organist
It is an absolute gem of XX century choral music. Thanks a lot for this! To help the viewers reading, I need to report that the C sharp marked in bar 3 of the Agnus Dei is a typo, that C is natural (the one in bar 5 is correct).
I don't know, there's been a revised edition which is supposedly more true to the original manuscript. It's possible that the score has this version, but the choir is singing from the "old" version. Personally I've always sang the old version except a few years ago, when the conductor instructed the choir to change to c sharp in the bar that you refer to.
3:19 who are coughing
this is my first time to hear it a choirster from Sierra Leone
Glorious choral sections in this. The solo/unison parts are often an absolute snooze, sadly. Organ underutilized. Overall a great piece - starts well and ends well but the middle is definitely weaker.
My sister loves how they sing 😂😂
Even mine
i really loved the 2nd soprano part on “for behold from henceforth”
My God… this is a majestic piece of music.
Both this one and the King's College Magnificat are both in G minor but this one is like the big noisy London night life is outside. King's is in the quieter university chapel and has pianissimo moments.
🗣🗣🗣ET HOMO FACTUS EST 13:19
Yes! 9:42. THIS is how you do that dotted triplet rhythm in the Gloria. Dr Cleobury knew his stuff (RIP)
it looks over complicated for how it sounds!! surely would’ve been easier to write crotchet-quaver-quaver(?). you do you Herbie 🤷♂️

This is a piece I love to sing, especially the surreal sections. One of my favourites by Britten.
I love Howells’ music….all of it.
Another great piece spoiled by the curse of the vibrato sopranos.
Other Howells Magnificats may be more beautiful (Gloucester), more heartbreaking (Chichester) or more thrilling (King’s) but I’ve always thought this one the most exciting.
One of the most beautiful choral pieces ever written
Like many others, I first heard this vital and innovative piece when its first performance was part of the St John's College Cambridge 2022 Advent Service broadcast 'live' on BBC Radio 3. In amongst the traditional and often contemplative and sombre Advent music and readings, this bold commission by the choir's departing Music DirectorAndrew Nethsingha was immediately startlingly and dazzling with its jazz rhythms, hand claps -and foot stopping. I just wondered how the general congregation would have reacted when it suddenly burst on them towards the end of the service?! I have no doubt that this truly inspired piece by Iain Farrington will quickly become an Advent 'classic' -for those choirs and organists capable of doing it full justice!
Incredible!
Beautiful. Wanted to hear what was going on in Evensong.
Thanks again for posting
Thank you for posting - I sang under Bernard Rose (I believe this was written for him) at Magdalen but I don’t recall ever singing it- although we did do other Howells canticles
When I was in the Charlotte Cathedral choir we sang many beautiful works, but this simple peace will always be one of my favorites.
I always appreciate posters like you who provide the score -- thanks!
