Hello! is the connector's name Sumitomo HM 090 ??? I have Ninja 1000 SX MY21 danke!
Hi, yes, it's the one
Hi could I ask where you got the torque settings from , mines a 2022 Ninja 1000 just want to make sure they haven’t changed the settings for different models , thank you
Hi, I think it's still all the same on the (2022) Ninja 1000 SX. They did change a torque setting/screw from the previous generation, but didn't make much change until now, I think. I read they will soon upgrade the engine. They might do a few changes at that point. The settings (values) are from some research and I don't quiet remember if it was front or back, I also got them validated from a dealer
Thanks for getting back to me 👍
I am just looking at doing this on my 22 Ninja to install a fender extender, thanks for doing it.
Glad I could help
Too dark, switch the lights on or film outside next time.
great vid, would you have a link to the exact grill you used please ?TIA
Hi, thank you :) I tried looking up the link for the one I have, but I am not sure if they have it any more. There is a comment under this video saying for the 2023 model it looks a little different. This may actually be true. I think you have to do some googling to find a matching one for you.
What model is this please. I habe 2023 and need to put mine on. Its slightly different to yours
I would be surprised if there is a change to the 2020 model 🤔 The previous generation is different (2019 and before)!
Thank you for your videos. Can you do a video on air filter change, and suspension set up?
Thank you for your comment and suggestion. Next video I have planed for is a radiator guard install, but will keep your suggestions in mind for a future video.
How do you find the accessory connector and not the heated grips connector? Are they the same type?
I think the connector for the heated grips might look a little different. Trying to follow the steps and you should be all set: In the video there is just the one connector left, as the heated grips are already installed. This might lead to some confusion. The connector is located on the left side downwards - please check minute 6:44. It is in the extension of the arm - reaching for the connector. That's also the position of the camera, facing towards the front tire: minute 6:55. The "cap" the connector is plugged into is wrapped with isolation tape around other wiring. Minute 13:40 shows the side-view with the other side plugged in and the connector (original "cap" left in place) bend upwards a little. Minute 13:46 is facing downwards again ("inside"-view) with the new wiring from the USB-outlet.
@@masterflashy Thanks, I have found the accessory connector now with the help from this video. Problem was I watched another video where they picked the grip-heater connector instead. They are exactly the same type, both plugged with dummy male connectors to have a watertight seal when they are not used. The thing is that they have reversed polarity so if you buy (like me) the factory power outlet and plug it into the wrong connector, you will have reversed polarity in the outlet. This may, or may not, destroy the accessory connected to it. Some cheapish USB chargers for example does not have reverse polarity protection. Another difference is that the accessory plug has a 3A fuse while the grip-heater plug has a 15A fuse.
Happy you found the right connector. Thank you very much for your input! Very useful information
Too dark ank often not in frame.
Hi Masterflashy Thanks for the video, very helpful. I'm having trouble finding an available connection to plug the usb socket into. I have the factory fitted Kawasaki heated grips and I think that they've used the connection. Is there another one? Thanks
Hi there. Thank you :) There should be one connector left. It's plugged into some dummy-connector with tape around it. Here is a previous answer to some comment trying to shed some more light on finding it: In the video there is just the one connector left, as the heated grips are already installed. [...] The connector is located on the left side downwards - please check minute 6:44. It is in the extension of the arm - reaching for the connector. Minute 13:46 is facing downwards again ("inside"-view) with the new wiring from the USB-outlet. Hope this helps already...
@@masterflashy Thanks for getting back to me. I couldn't find the other one, so ended up extending the lead and used the free one under the rider's seat!
I've not taken my fairings off yet to give it a look, but male is what we need, correct?
Yes, it has the male pins as seen in minute 00:08 and minute 06:37 (the seal should be crimped on as well, unlike in my example).
did you choose the 12 volt or the 5 volt output?
The wire from the bike should have 12V at the connector. I am not sure about a 5V one. Sorry for the bad light in the video...
@@masterflashy on my ninja 1000SX of 2022 there are two cables in the front one is 12 v. for the knobs but the one dedicated to the usb socket is 5 volts. instead under the saddle there is another 12 v. cable.
Hm... I think to remember, there was supposed to be some type of service connector. But I am not a 100% certain. But the one for the front-outlet should be 12V, as from factory they are offering a 12V outlet in the front: www.kawasaki.eu/en/accessories/motorcycles/Ninja_1000_SX/2022?UidCat=0031WQ&UidSubCat=0378WlhZXFhaWllYWFlYWVhcW1pZ&CodeBaseInternal=0175MjBZWFha&Uid_Model=0897UFpdXFBbXw1bDFpZXA4MDVEMDFBZCg5dXFlQWF0JClw&Uid=0843DV9cXVtQUQlfXQpQXApQXApbWloOWFtRXlBaCVANWg4 And the one under the seat is for the rear (USB-Outlet) which should also have 12V as you mentioned. The USB-Outlet Parts have an integrated convertor: www.kawasaki.eu/en/accessories/motorcycles/Ninja_1000_SX/2022?UidCat=0031WQ&UidSubCat=0378WlhZXFhaWllYWFlYWVhcW1pZ&CodeBaseInternal=0175MjBZWFha&Uid_Model=0897UFpdXFBbXw1bDFpZXA4MDVEMDFBZCg5dXFlQWF0JClw&Uid=0902XgxfDF1eWV5RDl5cXA0MCwlcW14MUAlfUAtRXQoKWgk I still plan on doing it the other way around. For now I only have the USB Outlet in the front. I might add the 12V rear outlet in a few month.... PS: And another connector in the front is for the heated grips (either already connected with the Touring Version or still there, if not fitted with heated grips) but you mentioned that already..
Here a picture from the voltage reading: i.postimg.cc/qMWwhrpj/12V.jpg Btw. the ignition needs to be "ON" - there should be no power, if the key is out/"off"
Really informative, thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Put some light on what you’re doing!
Will try to improve
Good video, took me 15 min to do mine. I think the only suggestion as far as edits to the video (since you asked for those that gave you a thumbs down - which I did not) would be to do more explanation and then just cut to the job being done for that step. Watching someone unscrew things and trim wires is tedious and boring. Shoot for a 10 min video.
Thank you for your comment. Much appreciated. I am planning on doing another one or two projects/videos on the bike where such suggestions will definitely help me improve on the videos. With enough suggestions on how to improve on this one I might even try to redo this so it's more pleasant to watch and understand the steps necessary.
Great post. Here in the states I am having difficulty finding this connector. Got any better pics of it?
Thank you :) I just updated the eBay-link, it's now leading to the one I used, again. Maybe the picture from eBay will help you already? Otherwise this site seems to have it for the US www.cycleterminal.com/hm-sealed-series-090.html I don't know that site other than finding it on Google. So maybe drop them an eMail before ordering to make sure they are legit? Please check under: "2 pin HM 090 Male and Female locking connector" on that site I hope this helps, otherwise let me know and I try to get some other photos.

Thanks for the video. I'm saving up to get this model of bike to replace my VFR800, which I already installed a similar dual USB port. On the VFR there was limited space behind the fairing panel so I had to get a socket that was of short length (around 25mm). Is there sufficient space behind the Kawasaki panel for a longer device so I can fit one with a built in LCD voltmeter? TIA. Tony.
Thank you for your comment. The one in the video has following dimensions: 6.86 x 6.35 x 1.78 cm (taken from the Amazon product description) and I'd say there is still plenty of room available => should not be a problem to fit almost any USB port as long as the diameter is about right. I tried taking a picture, but it's not a good reach and bad light behind the fairing. By the way, you could also get a Voltage reading from the on-board system (sub-menu in the setting of the bike). I am sure you will also be very happy with this model, once you have it - I just love this bike and think it's the perfect sporty touring bike (at least for me).
Hi. Can you send again a clear picture, where is the DC source in the bike ? I didn't find it.
Hi - I can try to get a better picture sometime next week. In the video there is just the one connector left, as the heated grips are already installed. Hope this helps already...
For the ones disliking it: I would appreciate a comment on what you would like to have different. I think the video already helps identifying the steps necessary...
Where exactly did you pull power from? I’ve a 2021 model and tried using the wire attached to the fairing with no success…thanks!
@@2ALBSURE I assume it's exactly the same as on the 2020 model. I couldn't get a better picture yet. I still have it on my mind and will try to get one again, soon. I tried answering "Yohanan Medina 1 month ago" with more details to what is shown. In my case it is only one left, as the other one is already connected to the heated grips. It should be one of them. There will only be power, when the ignition is turned on.
Is it the same connector at rear, under the seat?
Yes, it is. The one on the kickstand side in the rear corner.
@@masterflashy Ok, thanks!
Where did you get the usb outlet from ?
It's the one linked in the description: from Amazon. Basically most 12V to USB Sockets should work. I am quiet happy with my choice thus far - working great keeping my phone charged / charging it up while using it for navigation. Also once charged up a power-bank at the same time. No complaints yet.
@@masterflashy thank you!
Why did you connect it with the cover upside down?
The USB-cover? I guess it comes down to personal preferences. My thoughts on it were: less flapping, no "weight" on the USB-cable that's getting plugged in and easier handling. Just open the cover, plug in the USB-cable and being able to see what's going on... - Didn't notice any flapping while cover was open and it does stay closed when it's supposed to with what seems like a tight seal.
Any update on where to get the matching connector?
Nothing I am a 100% certain about. I will stay on it and comment on this to update you
Just updated - the one I used is available again
