    Actually I think it is a major achievement to top the Perries their fan boys vote for them regardless of the relevance of the survey. I thought the Perries focus is mainly Napoleonic's not noticed much else from them. I was surprised that Footsore didn't do better as they have a very new popular range of early medieval figures I didn't think the survey was limited to plastics rather than any historical manufacturer?

    Heroics and Ros are really cheap mostly due to their scale, fairly decent 6mm metals(and resin for larger models) at really cheap prices. you could probably build a cold war battalion for the price of a plastic box. Baccus on the other hand probably make some of the best 6mm models though last i checked they only do infintry and cav, so tanks and such. Surprised ghq wasn't on the chart as they are one of the other good 6mm miniature makers. As for all the epic scale stuff, smaller models are just better imo and they are going for scales where you can put details on.

      I think that's reasonable criticism. Their style has definitely evolved over the years and they do lack scale consistency. On the other hand I feel like they are the only historical plastic manufacturer actually trying to push the industry forward.

    With the amount of time it takes to design plastic minis, fit them to sprues, and make the sprue moulds, I can't see how companies can quickly push a set out to beat a competitor without a year or so of warning before hand. But it is sad to see companies drop ranges before completing them due to competition. Competition is always good. It was great to see Victrix win after such a fantastic few years with their new full ranges of great minis. But to me Perry Miniatures is still very much the go to place for Black Powder era wars.

    • @TriariusWarGaming
      @TriariusWarGaming 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I agree the Perry Napoleonic stuff is better than victrix after painting some of both. The Perrys definitely payed a lot of attention and detail to the sculpting to make their French considerably easier to paint and get on the table faster. It is sad to see companies drop their ranges so fast... still waiting for those wargames Atlantic Franks teased so long ago... my guess is their Romans and Goths did not sell as well a they may have hoped.

    For me it depends on the period of the project and the price. Being stuck on the dark side of the Rest of the World for shipping, I cannot afford the 25% shipping that quite a few of the manufacturers from the UK charge...unless you drop 300GBP, which is more than a mortgage payment. Great Escape Games does Dead mans hand and some WW2 fringe armies and I am kind of surprised they didnt get a spot on the playoff tree. Victrix has been my go to for the past year because of the good value for money for their ancients. I am interested in seeing how their 28mm WW2 looks. Hopefully, the competition in scale and periods will force everyone to up their games.

    I am glad to see the plastics companies come in and make their money. I just think that in 15 years the same thing will happen with 3D printing and if wargames Atlantic is still around by then they’ll be the ones laughing to the bank.

    • @TriariusWarGaming
      @TriariusWarGaming 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      3D printing is definitely a major frontier, but somethings will definitely have to change with it. Right now 3D prints seem to be way pricier and made of less durable material. Lots of potential in that area but I'm not sure how much of a game changer they will be. Like for me I don't have the room or the inclination to really get into 3D printing stuff for myself - dealing with the trial and error etc.

    Okay for your Fenchie Grenadier figures, lots of things happening here. Now from a bit of a blurry video I can see off the top the headgear w/pom pom. The pom pom style/shape looks more of a Voltigier/Legere style, not a grenadier. Missing the black gaiters which were used at different times during the Napoleonic wars. Then it's hard to see the white facing trimmed in red, red color epaulets and cuffs, and the white coat tails trimmed in red with red grenadier design/logo. Definitely cannot tell if he's wearing the grenadier sword style from the video. Further if we're button counting, cannot tell if he has the brass eagle on his ammo pouch. Obviously the battle map that was set out in the Osprey book has both armies facing off, but do you feel that 28mm battles start off like this more often than not? just wondering as I'm looking into 28mm figures because I love the miniatures, but really struggle to see how they're practical for gaming purposes.

    • @alexanderbergbacka6825
      @alexanderbergbacka6825 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In my experience 28mm miniatures are the absolute best for skirmish games, TTRPGs, and medium scale engagements where you want to be able to see the details on the individual miniatures but still don't have piles and piles of them on the table. They get somewhat inconvenient for genuinely large scale games, but as you can see in the video they also look spectacular in the effort.

    • @TriariusWarGaming
      @TriariusWarGaming หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes there is definitely a trade off between the nice looking 28mm figures and the size required to pull off a spectacle. This kind of project is also not feasible for someone just getting in the hobby - it takes to develop the skills to manage army creation at this level. I'm still learning my self how to pull off these big projects. What I would suggest is start small and then do a "slow grow". Start out doing small scale clashes and build up over time. One thing you can do is paint parallel armies. Get a box of 28mm of something you like and then get some 15 or 10mm figures. Paint both at this same time, you can do some large small scale armies for cheap in the meantime while you develop your 28mm collection. Storage is the biggest thing to thing about with 28mm, you definitely need some storage space like a spare closet or basement (or under the bed etc) to keep all the figures. The bottom line though is if you don't like the figures you are painting you won't paint them. And you can do some great smaller clashes with 28mm on a 6 X4 - that is what most of the games I play at home are.

      @@TriariusWarGaming absolutely agree. Your collections are awesome for sure and I think when it comes to the larger engagements my worry is not having the depth in the table to pull it off. You can always make the table wider but 6ft seems close to the limit for most people in terms of reach. I’m going to pick up a box of 28mm as I love painting that scale, but with living close to Eureka miniatures I have found myself investing in the AB range which has some amazing sculpted models.

      @@alexanderbergbacka6825 Yes the range of miniatures is staggering at 28mm, plus they look great. I’ve just recently invested in some AB 20mm WW2 miniatures for Chain of command as I found it a nice trade off between size and detail.

    Hey brother, great overview of the event and lessons learned as being unfamiliar with this convention, I had a great time plugging into this project with you and the Ranger. Had a blast hosting the game with you and bullshitting with you in our limited free time. Your mastery of the ruleset really led to truly seamless GMing. I look forward to joining you for the next one. Take care! -D

    Congratulations on the successful completion of your project. A huge undertaking with an immense amount of time (not to mention cost) expended. Looks like you used "To the Strongest" as your rules of choice. I'm glad everyone, including yourself, had a good time. I'm assuming the people who played were mostly strangers. Fantastic work and effort. Look forward to the hoplite project! Cheers.

    5:02 This statement is a significant exaggeration and misrepresentation of historical events. "The Romans lost a lot of troops" = The loss of three complete legions, which was a severe blow to the Roman self-image and their superiority Here's a more accurate description of what happened after the Battle of Teutoburg Forest (Varusschlacht): 1. Roman retaliation: The Romans did launch retaliatory campaigns into Germania under Germanicus between 14-16 CE, but these were limited in scope and duration. 2. No total destruction: While these campaigns caused damage and casualties, they did not result in the destruction of all of Germania or the killing of everyone. 3. Limited objectives: The Roman expeditions were primarily punitive in nature, aimed at recovering lost standards and avenging the defeat, rather than attempting to conquer and occupy the entire region. 4. Withdrawal: After these campaigns, Emperor Tiberius ordered a withdrawal from Germania, effectively abandoning plans for long-term occupation east of the Rhine. 5. Long-term impact: The Battle of Teutoburg Forest actually led to the establishment of a more permanent frontier between the Roman Empire and Germanic territories, rather than resulting in the destruction of Germania. In summary, while the Romans did conduct retaliatory campaigns, they did not "destroy Germany and kill everyone." The actual historical events were far more nuanced, with long-lasting geopolitical consequences rather than total annihilation.

    • @TriariusWarGaming
      @TriariusWarGaming หลายเดือนก่อน

      I did exaggerate in the video, but the point stands that the Romans crushed German resistance after battle and had their revenge. Including laying waste to a lot of German territory.

      Thanks so much! Yes somehow we missed the recaps and the judging (the judges literally did not view our game when they where supposed too)...
