I am not an expert whatsoever, but to answer your question, faking it until you make it does NOT apply whenever it comes to your emotions. From my personal experiences, faking being happy can make you feel even worse, and can make it more difficult to fake it in the long run. However, in some cases its understandable for someone to fake how they're feeling, examples being they're in a job interview, they're giving a speech, they're teaching, etc... To answer the question in the Facial Feedback Hypothesis section, smiling doesn't make you happy, and being happy doesn't mean you'll smile. Although, usually when someone is happy, or experiences something fun, they tend to smile because of it. Thank you for your videos! I was able to listen to this and get some chores done at home at the same time. This helped out a lot😭🙏
Love your articulate analysis of this topic!
How sad 😢 interesting way to learn about the fear response but watching how it changed that baby broke my heart
Thank you for this video. Your explanation and pace was on point.

Simple and well understood. Thanks a lot.
Thank you so much!
thank u so much. u r saving me from failing

FYI - Problems solving, the candle holder in fig. B. Since figure A shows multiple thumb tacks you could press one through the bottom of the box into the bottom of the candle to create the stability you are wanting. I would probably use 2 or 3 on the box-to-wall area to manage the weight of the candle. I'm sure you didn't need the feedback, but I couldn't get past it. I really appreciate your videos! This box is boring and difficult for me to sit and read. Your slides and instruction are incredibly helpful!
Thank you SO MUCH for these videos!!!! They have been a lifesaver!!!
@@juliavaughn-tc4ce you’re welcome! Glad to hear!
Hello, I'm in your class and I'm watching this for said class. I was just wondering if you know why you aren't supposed to wake people with night terrors? I have had night terrors since I was a kid, along with several friends and family. Just curious. Thanks.
@@Miranda_m_d10 good question. Doing so might prolong the night terror episode. As well, in the half-asleep state, one might accidentally hurt the person waking them up, because they are scared and want to defend themselves.
@@matthewpoolepsychology oh ok! Thank you so much. Have a great day
I am not a student of yours, but I am taking a psych class at my community college and we use OpenStax. These videos are perfect! Thank you for posting these.

Thank you so much for this it’s my first year of college. We use the same book but unfortunately my professor doesn’t send any videos or explain anything. I’m in my second week and haven’t heard anything from my teachers except emails. I’m just by myself.
@@Xabbie. thank you for the kind words! Feel free to comment a question on a video and I will do my best to explain that topic further. Good luck in college, you’ve got this!
is this the first chapter of the psychology textbook called "Lifespan Development" by Allison Sidle Fuligni; Andrew J. Fuligni; Jessica Bayne?
Thank you for your inquiry - the information from this video is not from that specific textbook. It is from Lumen Learning's open resources on the subject of Lifespan Development.
Who get paid more?
This was a game changer for my psych course, thank you!
Thank you so much for sharing this content Matthew! I'm doing my internship in schools here in Australia, but it took me so long to get here that my undergrad subjects on lifespan development were nearly 20 years ago now! So I'm looking to brush up and really glad to find your channel. Keep slaying legend ✨️

I'm subbing just to see what else you have to say. I've been a psyche patient for 17 years, so I'm always interested in the advancement in knowledge of doctors today.
Testable prediction. Got it 👍
My brain hasn't adapted to the constant bs of this world
Introvert

I’m an Autism + ADHD comorbidity me personally
I use to struggle with the severe repetitive symptoms. Mindfulness and meditation helped. There was a meditation book called 30 Days to Stop Obsessing by Harper Daniels that helped me a lot.
yep, your facial expressions can convince your mind that you feeling a certain way xd
This is so interesting. Always wanted to learn more about the brain.

Interesting hearing the differences in the US. Here in Aus the only doctor requirement is a psychiatrist. Psychologist is masters and counsellor is an unprotected title so you technically don't need anything
Almost all of the psychiatrist I have seen only prescribe medicine. I feel like they're Not using a A lot of their degree because they wanted the easy route of prescriptions.
It's interesting how different languages use the words. Here in Germany, a Psychologist is someone with a Masters degree in Psychology. You can make a doctorate on top of that, but than you are still "only" a Psychologist with a doctorate. To become a Psychotherapist you need a Masters degree in Psychology (5 years of University) plus 3 years of further education in a clinic where you need to treat patients for hundreds of hours before you are allowed to call yourself a Psychotherapist. A Counsellor is Something relatively new in Germany so im Not Sure about that, but defintely the least educated among these three
But the term of Psychiatrist is used similarly
Fascinating! Thanks for the info!
Counselor - can counsel, (can diagnose with extra education) Psychologist - can counsel and diagnose Psychiatrist - usually don’t counsel, can diagnose, and prescribe medications
Thank you. Clear, concise and informative. Great video!
