As someone who's had over 90 jobs since the early 1980s, this flick hits depressingly close to home for me. In fact, I've had iterations of pretty much every job featured in this movie - dishwasher, extrusion factory worker (but for aluminum rather than plastic), custodian, warehouse and inventory worker, convenience store clerk (guy seen in the middle and end), telemarketer, and many others. On the other hand, I've also done work requiring acquired skills and licensing (constructions trades, trucking, personal training), so it hasn't all been menial drudgery. Something I just learned about this film is that it was inspired by a late '80s zine created and edited by Randy Russell, also titled American Job.
