When I was writing a coursework on basics of programming (it was a text editor running in a console like vim or nano) I used a wide character array linked list to store the contents of a text file in utf-8 encoding. To work with the elements of the list, I used the initialization and deinitialization functions (I wrote in C90, because C ++ is a fucking piece of shit without normal OOP, Python is too slow, and I didn’t know Java at that time), so the file reading function in the loop calls the initializer, which calls malloc to allocate memory for the structure. For deinitialization, all elements of the list are traversed, for each element a deinitializer is called, which calls free.

@@_nit Maybe. I do not know the specifics of writing game engines, but most likely there are situations when malloc is needed in a loop
