Tim Wright Fine Violins: Violin by Giuseppe Ornati, Milan, 1921
Today, Tim presents a brilliant Modern Italian violin by Giuseppe Ornati, made in Milan in 1921. Ornati is widely thought to be one of the finest makers of the modern Milanese school and famously worked in the Bisiach workshop before setting up on his own in 1919.
The violin is modelled after the instruments of the Cremonese maker Carlo Bergonzi and has been made with the exceptional care that characterises Ornati's work. It has a smooth, reliable character with a great balance of sweetness and projection.
The violin is in excellent condition and comes with a Moennig certificate written in the year 2000. Contact us to find out more!
The violin is for sale in our Edinburgh violin shop and can be viewed online here: www.wrightviolins.com/ornati-violin

A different kind of video today! Tim is just so excited to show you this Edward Pamphilon violin, made in England circa 1670. Pamphilon is an enormously interesting maker at the very dawn of British violin making: his work has a good deal in common with the early Dutch makers from whom he may have learnt. This is a seriously early instrument that is happily at home in modern repertoire: a real ...

    Wow. Stunning. Just curious how many Maggini violins are there still in existence? Must be one of the rarest violins, up there with Gasparo Bertolotti 'da Salò', C. Bergonzi, etc. I've heard there still may be some more Rogeri violins that have been attributed and certified as P. Maggini.

      Thanks! That's a very interesting question - they're certainly very rare and the advent of dendrochronology led to some interesting developments in expertise on the Brescian school. Not sure of an exact number I'm afraid - back to the books for us!!

    In my opinion it is nice to talk a bit about the child violin, Mozart had. But WHERE IS HIS MEIN INSTRUMENT??? In my opinion the Della Costa is a great instrument. But his Klotz violin where he compost and premiered all 5 of his VC and the Sinfonie Concentarta K. 364.

    Such a powerful violin! I’d love to own a Guarneri copy. I’ve always wanted one. I don’t like the shrill high notes of most violins, but this one’s high notes are very palatable to my ear. This thing sounds like the cannon, that Paganini played.

    Is this method of using luminosity for determining the thickness uniquely used by Gareth or other makers as well? thanks very much for sharing this. greetings from down under :)

    • @shenliu4955
      @shenliu4955 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess this method is uniquely applied by Gareth because it can't handle all situations in violin making. The transparency of the same board may be different, especially those carved along the chord of the timber. It's inevitable to use a vernier calliper to determine the thickness of the wood.

    • @carpetbrown1115
      @carpetbrown1115 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree, but u got to give credit where its due, could be called thinking outside the box perhaps? Density of wood and thickness or thinning of plates is still a mystery I think, and I reckon that is the secret of the old masters..not varnish or ground coat or so..my 2 cents worth 😀

    • @timwright692
      @timwright692 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fair to say that Gareth is brilliant at thinking outside the box! It's always so interesting to learn about different approaches :)
