Absolutely loved listening to you both back in the 90’s when my husband and I were first married. We went to Disneyland a lot back then. Thank you for the beautiful memories. May the Lord Bless
What is with the ring on the right hand ring finger? Is that a coke corner thing?
I wish that Alan would start posting again
My husband and I used to watch Rod and Alan back when we were first married and still liked Disneyland. This brings back fond memories 😊
I remember when Alan first came to Coke Corner while Rod Miller was playing. Rod taught Alan a lot to get him where he could audition and get the permanent gig. He's his own artist but you can her a lot of Ron in his style.
I could listen to him for hours... I love to hear him play...
His smile is adorable.
HE IS!!
As the legend sits behind.. watching.
does he play any Liszt?
Brought so many wonderful memories.
Impressive? Yes. Good? No. Those pieces are meant to be played waaaay slower.
God, the accuracy.
Oh man the speed was disturbing for what I’m used to. It was like listening to fur Elise at 1.5 speed
Fabulous!!!
People really do take the ragtime pianists for granted these days. So sad. Go see them everyone!
Actually, it's Pineapple Rag.
That is true
Peep the kid in the back with the Kingdom Hearts shirt. We see you...
Every ragtime video has people whining about the tempo. Even ones where the tempo is correct has people saying its too fast.
Too fast... Ragtime is slow other than that good
Incredible piano-player
I heard maple leaf rag and got excited, and then his fingers started slamming out notes and chords like a machine gun. I am in awe of his skill.
Some people really need to lighten up.. I stop by to revisit this video from time to time, first to listen to Alan's version of the Maple Leaf Rag and 2nd to read the comments. Statements like "sounds better" and "tasteful" are all opinions. What you hear may not be tasteful or pleasing to me and I hear might not be pleasing or tasteful to you. In my opinion, the man took a great piece of music and made it his own. He plays it how he thinks it should sound. If you don't like move on.

@Josh Roberts Alan does not have Vulcan ears. However he can make a Vulcan eyebrow. haha
Explanation: he is a Vulcan. Look at his ears.
I am familiar with these people. However, I still prefer Alan's music :)
No doubt whatsoever regarding his talent, which is exceptional, but this is fast beyond my comfort zone as a listener. At this speed, it becomes more about showmanship and less about musicality. (He obviously has plenty of both.) In contrast, Stephanie Trick, Adam Swanson, and several others get the tempo right, in my opinion.
I really enjoyed this performance -- well done! In contrast, one of his MLR postings is just too fast.
Thank You. I am getting worn out from trying to explain to people. lol :) .
Why is everyone giving this great performer a hard time? I agree with the one comment about if you can't hear the syncopation at his tempo listen faster. Joplin is dead!!! He composed a great piece with the Maple Leaf Rag. But face it. His time is over. I can appreciate this piece at the tempo is was written in and also the tempo this performer is playing it at. This guy is playing his ass off and doing a fantastic job. So cut him some slack you stuffy bastards!!!
Amen!
@ Hans Isn't that the truth!
He is a gifted Pianist and he looks like a handsome young fellow also.
Really good, but these rags were not meant to be played fast :L
Rush the LH some so it sounds authentic.
If you can't hear the syncopation at this speed then...listen faster or something.
Thank You!
I am familiar with Joplin.
It's really just a matter of being stylistically incorrect. Scott Joplin, the composer specifically wrote on his sheet not to play his rags fast. It's the same reason why a classical pianist is not going to play one of Chopin's nocturnes fast. The composer didn't want that, and it sounds better and more tasteful at the correct tempo. Some people may like it this way, but they are probably not that familiar with Joplin and haven't realized that his pieces are much prettier at his tempos.
Song at 8:10 is the swipesy cakewalk by Joplin .
That's not true! Alan is fantastic! I am really getting tired of telling people he can play slow but this is his style. And people love it! I am glad he doesn't follow your rules. haha :)
What is the song that starts at 8:10? It doesn't seem to be on the description, and I've been looking for that song for a long time.
I see Alan once in a while and he still owns the Ivory Keys and he still looks the same. But one question.... Which Mike is this? I was in the band and I was in Percussion too. Last name Angel if it rings a bell? Hit me up on FB.
Alan can play it slower but we love it at this tempo! :) Thank you for your opinion but everyone is different.
Dayum.. You are freakin sick bro! :D Awesome...
Yes, I think he is VERY NICE!
Completely understandable. :-) Is he as nice a guy as he looks?
I am a huge Disneyland fan, the main reason being Alan plays there .I agree with you, "Alan is incredible" :)
I never bothered too much with Disney and, unlike most others, I'm not the least bit interested in going to Disneyland. But I do love Jazz and especially ragtime, and these guys are absolutely amazing. I checked out your other videos and I have to say this Alan fella is incredible!
I believe they count it as one view per person, but I know what you mean. :)
