2:40 Just a heads up since I haven’t seen ppl define “The Great Shift” in this way, but the phrase “The Great Shift” was essentially coined to refer to the Black guys with dreadlocks noticing the “shift” in being desirable nowadays compared to back around 2016 when Lightskin curly head (Black) guys were the “it” guys and all the craze. So it was considered the great shift for dreadheads to finally be recognized😭 Basically Darkskin dreadheads recently being admired and finally getting their moment to shine is the great shift from in comparison Lightskin curly heads who had dominated around the 2016 Fboy era.😭

Is this serious? Western fashion is worn all over South Asia. No one thinks they are stealing western fashion. We live in a globalised world. Seriously.
The WEST steals from everyone! That is nothing new 😂
THANKS! I just realized that this month 😢
The green dress is definitely like Muslim culture
Religion, medication, yoga, food, clothing (i.e. pants, blouses), games (polo, chess), make-up, jewelry style and nose piercing, henna tattoos, henna hair coloring...all stolen by west from south Asia. This is the first you tube which supports my stance. But it's not just the west, it's south east Asians calling Thai curry theirs when it is curry from the most southern states in south Asia and calling Hinduism, Bali Hinduism or Indonesian Hinduism. Since when does religion changes ethnic background? It's cultural appropriation.
I feel like shawls do look kinda European hmmm but yeah they been stealing for so long that I can’t even tell what is what
But don’t south Asian designers also do western collection? Ok let me finish the video cos am sure you about to drop some crazy real shit
Omg. Just let people appreciate a culture… Everyone knows it looks Indian or south asian it’s not hard to tell why do they have to say it.. They can take inspiration if they want to. It’s beautiful cultures just like a lot of other cultures in the world.. we gotta just appreciate each other and come together and share our cultures.. ALSO WTF WHO SAID ITS NOT CUTE WHEN YALL DO IT LMFAO HUH? Y’all woke gatekeepers just say anything
This is a culture that couldn't even come with a creative name for the film industry there appropriating/stealing from "bollywood" 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Begs to be accepted in the west and steals western aesthetics crys why when people from the west embrace any other cultures LOL
Me who spoild by my own srilankan parents because of my skin colour im not that dark
Oh my gosh, I absolutely love the video! It's so true-whenever people receive Western validation, everything suddenly seems amazing. Take coconut oil, for instance; we all jump on board when it's labelled as healthy by Western standards. I've come across countless girls who have been mistreated by their relatives simply because of their skin tone, not because they're not beautiful-because they are stunning! It's disheartening to see them treated poorly, and while words alone may not change their situations, we can certainly empower them to believe in themselves and recognize their worth.
Great points! Thanks for your comment 🫶🏽
omg i literally found your channel today and i have no self control anymore. i really love your videos
omg 😭😭❤️❤️❤️
It is insane to me that someone would have the gall to say someone like Priyanka Chopra, Akshay Kumar or any other obviously good looking person isn't. I know everyone has preferences but you can tell when someone is objectively good looking still. The negging is jealousy.
Yeah, it’s easy to see when someone is objectively attractive - regardless of their race
Being a good looking one is no fun either you will get dragged down my jealous racists and even people from your own community. I joined an ind american chat group once with my pfp up and so many incels tried to neg me on there.
Hey maryam I have a question about a really close friend of mine she is supportive she's my childhood friend, she has also taken a stand for me in my absence but now after growing up I realised she is constantly stopping me from being me!! telling what people talk about me, she says don't talk to anyone other than us they'll dirty you behind your back...but when I refuse saying that I'm not what they say she supports me but she doesn't feel good about people pointing faults in me.....there was an incident when she wasn't giving us(her besties ) time and she wasn't even talking and when she did talk to us she was lying so I told this to one her close male friend who was also a part of her group besides us... I asked him whether she was behaving the same with him and he said yes so I told him you could share this conversation with her as she isn't ready to confess she came and then confessed that she wasn't able to give us time which was fine but the only problem was her entitlement of being fair and giving everyone equal time....even after this incident she did this couple of times and hid things....but she always wants me to share everything although she is been supportive now I feel something fishy about her.... Is she a little messy or is she just overwhelmed by work??? Just wanna know because recently she said this laughing "don't you dare to make new friends"....but I feel she can have a life out of me and I can have a life out of her... Please tell me am I being dramatic and problematic or it's just in my head or is she actually being mean😢 I know I've got flaws and I do make mistakes but I can't help it I can improve but can't completely change 😭 I can't help it Sorry for the long text but help me...she's my best friend and childhood buddy😭😭
Hey maryam will you talk about so-called facial proportions (upper face, midface, lower face) that should be equal to look attractive or the forehead should be comparetively large. These beauty standards sucks the reason why women are undergoing nose surgery to get a smaller nose...most Indian faces have longer midface with long noses which looks ethereal and regal but nowadays they're looked as insecurity
That's actually a great topic to discuss! Thanks for the suggestion girly, I'll make a note of it 💌

I got a call from Hult for a Master's in Finance. Should I go to the USA from India or not? What do you suggest?
Yk, women should just start doing rampwalks in their home with their friends, wear traditional dresses shown in the video and call it valentino 2025 collection. Literally making a mick trend for these western hypocrites
ur from? british?
Interesting how you don't mention elite South Asian designers stealing from traditional artists in the country and pretending to be the face of Indian fashion
This is like when people wear bindis, bangles, henna, etc. and call it "very coachella" or "boho". 🙄 Makes me quite sad. 🙁
As a Danish girlie I’m not up to date with any fashion news or scandals, but this video looked interesting. The “Scandi Shawl” could have come about in two ways imo. A. The designer was inspired by indian traditional wear or B. They made a “summer version” of the normally knitted winter poncho, thought they were a genuis, only to come to the realization when this blew up that the design is as old as time. 😂
I'm bangladeshi. I have brown skin, and I it gets browner under the sun. I am still a minor, so I obviously stay with my parents. My parents always tell me (since I was 8), that because of my dark skin, no one will like me when I get older and go to a university. People tell me the only good thing about me is my intelligence. Sure, I have won many awards, gotten straight A's always.. but it still hurts. I cry every night because I get called Kali, and in 2019 I got into kpop for a brief time. In simple words, it ruined me more. I got so obsessed with light skin, I tried everything. Everyday I would search on social media about skin whitening recipes. I used to put turmeric, rice flour, cucumbers, lemon juice and ice, just as I saw on youtube. My aunty said if I eat less, it will make me more attractive and if I only eat vegetables, it will make me white like east and southeast asians. Some members of my family live in Myanmar (Our ancestry is mainly Burmese but over many generations some of my ancestors moved to the Bengal region). My aunty says that there they eat vegetables only, thats why they are so white. I know it's false. I still am facing effects from what my aunty said, I ended up developing an eating disorder. I used to vomit out my food after every meal. I got so weak in late 2021, at age 13 I was only 37 kg. I got sick, and now I regret it because of the side effects. This cruel idolizing of fair skin has destroyed my adolescence. I'm going to be an adult soon. My whole teenage life I worried solely about my appearance, and it has also deterred my academic life. But now, with the help of south asian, mostly indian social media has helped me begin to heal. I would love to hear more stories about people who have faced similar struggles. With love, Another human being.
at what point do we just stop other communities from sharing? ?i mean it's kinda ridiculous to be living in a GLOBAL society and still saying "you can't have this cause it belongs to us" like...why? yeah if the argument is western nations colonised asian nations , then it's a weak argument. if people choose to participate in international relations, then inspirations taken from multiple cultures are going to happen. this happening doesn't oppress a group of people today/. im southeast asian and i find this "appropriation" thing as ridiculous. no one is stopping people from supporting or buying local designers instead of from these fashion conglomerates. this whole discussion has become a circlejerk of "yeah let's pat ourselves in the back for standing up to western cultures!". there should be more videos and contents highlighting these small local designers or traditional crafts instead of attacking everyone else
Actually them wearing indian clothes and stuff i honestly don't care but them not giving credit or saying it's their culture instead is whats annoying
At this point, I just want to live life completely alone, earn enough to make myself and my mother happy and that's it. Bangladesh is so toxic (well the whole world is). Dark skin is a curse, unfortunately, I'm the only one cursed out of literally three of my parents' children. God has his favorites
Now whole europe and America been like Britain.First Britain steal our money and do all slavery things and they have aducity to give lectures to us and now they are stealing our fashion, dressing sense and culture , food, and our ayurvedic medicine. Few days ago I came across a yoga vedio and the channel name is 'Christian yoga' seriously. It's a phrase in Hindi 'lato ke bhoot batoo se nhi mante' and they are doing work like this.
Me watching this videos wearing pajamas with the same print😹, like it’s such a common design
love that 🤣🤣
"stolen" i mean............how long are we gonna yap about history... and i dont see a lot of south asians wearing the og fashion that ur talking about
Um we still do wear the traditional wear as regular wear..... Have you ever even been to any South Asian country ?
@Nishanth_mementomori iam north indian
@hfk6899 so ? You're saying no one is wearing traditional clothes anymore ? Really ? You're not seeing anyone wearing embroidered sarees or kurtas ?
@@Nishanth_mementomori my point was to make it clear that we should stop looking for new reasons to feel superior even as a country or ethnicity. what does she mean stolen when she herself is wearing something not very ethnic
Trying to incorporate diverse designs in fashion world is common. It isn’t stealing / discrediting / diluting past nor history. Valentino’ SS 25, designed by Alessandro Michele, is nothing less than iconic nor reinvention (my personal opinion). Yeah they didn’t specifically mention their inspiration from, but I think it’s an amalgamation of Renaissance, Victorian, post French Revolution, Middle Eastern, South Asian (and many more) with a twist of modernity to it. So completely nullifying the creativity by labeling it as stealing is not a nuanced approach. I believe the once colonial society should accept the fact that culture exchanges doesn’t account for stealing but rather a step in evolution.
This needs more engagmesnt and views.
You are looking at it as an entitled westerner regardless of your origin, otherwise you would not make such a fuzz about it. It is a western attitude to try to shame people into separating themself into their culture of origin, so congrats to displaying that here so openly. Hope you grow out of it.
That same print and in a bag you can get on e-commerce for under 2k rupees.
They also steal from Afghan fashion and rebrand it as 'Bohemian or Hippie'. Makes my blood boil.
my next gully tailor bhaiya could make an outfit for much cheaper and slay a thousand times harder than these guys, the brand is not anywhere close to the artistry that is pulsating in our streets lol.
This has been happening for centuies mind i tell you, in various things and various ways. You would be surprised how much of things originated from this sub-continent, spread around the world then localised there in different names, simply repackaging it.
I'm not a person who's really into fashion, so the taking of these designs and ideas for clothing *usually* wouldn't make me blink. I do think the line between traditional and modern formal clothing is too stark, and I'd love to see that played around with (enough so that I, never trying to make a statement, can wear them). but as someone who knows just a little bit about the colonial history of the textile industry, especially in relation to India and the Indian revolution, I feel sick. This is absolutely shameless. Everything compounds on the image visceral image of colonists breaking weavers' fingers.
skibidii
Agreed 👏
Another fun fact: all “Italian leather” is sourced for Nigeria. So it’s not even Italian lmaoo.
I hope this video goes viral! Great job! The first step is pointing out the problem!
