Having a blast at the New Pass Mine
We spent some time at the New Pass Mine learning from the owner Don. One of the things we did was blasting. Was it fun? Is that even a question!?

A Short Tour of the Late Great American Hotel at Cerro Gordo Ghost Town
มุมมอง 41Kปีที่แล้ว
In the early morning of June 15th, 2020, the historic American Hotel at Cerro Gordo Ghost Town burned to the group. Other historic structures such as the Crapo House and the Ice House were also destroyed along with the artifacts and artwork contained in them. The actions of Brent Underwood, Robert Desmaris and others on the hill that morning saved other buildings from destruction. Less than a y...

Wait.. what the f$$$$
This was back when America was THE supplier of metals and minerals needed to make and run everything. Unlike now, thanks to stupid government decisions. Witness: China has just cut off all supplies of gallium, germanium, and rhodium. I guess our fearless leaders will ramp up salvage of old catalytic converters to make up for the loss....or not.
so this guy bought the town and then caused the fire that burned down history. awesome
My forebearers came from these humble origins.... I have so many questions.
😢❤️🩹
This kind of reminds me of a 16mm movie that I might have seen in grade school. In all reality, I probably didn’t. But it just has that ‘70s school movie’ vibe, right down to the music. The only thing that it’s missing is the clattering of the projector.
Back when school wasn’t so hard

I was an Iron scrapper in 1992 for Stone Brothers construction out of Fernley NV. I was working on the main ore house and my partner was supposed to be watching my slag and wasn't, the entire structure caught fire and burned to the ground. I have some amazing memories from that place. We all lived out of the house that was on the property.
Did you guys make it back to the gold fish pond? I can remember the incredible amount of air rushing out from under the Anaconda steel door, the scorpions and red Racers. Solid rock mine with I believe hundreds of miles of track.
That's awesome. Well, not the ore house burning down part...
Great tour. Thanks
"Room and Pillar" mining leaves behind about 40% of the ore in the pillars.
Excellent demo as I just acquired a from the original owner a vintage air drill like this Ingersoll Rand. It’s going on display soon in a museum in Nevada. It was used in the 1950s in a gold mine.
I remember eating in there for breakfast back in 1994 and having Dotties famous Miners Skillet when we stayed at the Belshire house across from the museum.
I retirede coal mine
A nice tribute. I felt so bad for Brent when it burned. What a gut punch. But that guy, though intensely sensitive (in a good way), has an iron resolution and in the midst of rebuilding. I think that the antique bar that he purchased a while back will be a more suitable replacement. I wonder if the cast iron stoves survived.
Interesting video
Well shit.... that looks fun
What model of stoper drill is that?
We don't know the exact model but it's an Atlas Copco
Terrible this very preventable loss happened.
Nice to see again. Does Brent have a copy in his library?
He does indeed. We remembered we took this video recently and after chatting with Brent and sending over a copy we also remembered to post it on TH-cam.
Tragic loss including the painting by Sylvia Winslow.
Beautiful❤

Hotel stood for 100 plus years, Less then two months after underwood moved up there, It somehow burns down.. But remember it did not fit underwoods and his Biz partners plans for the area. The hotel's entire 2nd floor was unstable and deemed unsafe for public use Underwood even stated and showed this in one of his vid's.. Needed massive upgrades to meet electrical, water and safety regulations for public use. Yea it mysteriously burned down, Righttttt
HEARTBREAKING!!!
That was a beautiful building. We were first up there in the early 90's when Jodi was still alive. Back then she gave tours of the whole property including the hoist house. Was up there later when Mike Patterson took over after Jodi passed. And then again when Robert Demaris was the caretaker. I hope that Brent can bring it all back to it's former glory!
I wonder if there is any footage of the second floor of the hotel
Oh yes, I've seen a few vids of the cerro Gordo money pit on hopeless mountain. Might have been partial good idea years ago, but I can't see anyone wasting a weekend full of gas money in a post covid/ 17-35% inflational era to venture where there's no running water, electric, WiFi or provisional materials, not to mention, it was abandoned over a hundred years ago. I'm glad u posted this vid tho for educational purposes. Thx
The furnishings and various items are especially tragic to have lost. But I'm confident Brent will build something truly special in its place.
Is so sad it burned down ... Brent is doin a great job with Cerro Gordo.. I hope to one day go and see what he has done...hoping maybe he opens the hotel to overnight visitors. That would be really awesome. I follow his channel and watch all his videos
Great vlog
The loss of that original hotel is so sad but good to see Brent moving ahead and rebuilding
That old hotel looks absolutely awesome, I'm so gutted it got burnt down, so much history lost.
Nice reference video. I’m the contractor building the new hotel, and have only see few pictures of the original. It was neat to see a walk-through.
At least now it will be up to code and wheelchair accessible everything.
@missingremote4388 Yes, and that's vitally important way out there. 😀
Best wishes Sir.
@@dwh5512 lmao! Indeed. 🤣
Hotel would still be if it wasnt for those guys. Very sad.
Hopefully they’ll be able to use the same woodstove. I hope that survived. Also, Brent purchased an absolutely beautiful bar for this new hotel. I can’t wait to see it all come together.
wow, what a loss that was. all the artifacts inside, those old stoves.... terribly sad. I'm glad brent is rebuilding. in 200 years the new one will be the historic site!
Too bad ding dong burned it down...
Could probably turn it into a western bed and breakfast
Looks like you need an executive chef for that hotel and a person that knows construction like me I do all that stuff and I'm a meat cutter and I think I could live out there and we can make that place functional place
Thanks for the video. Nice old motel!
As painful as it was for Brent and everyone when this place burned down a bit of me is glad it happened before any guests stayed and now the new one will be safe for all to visit
I've stayed there before it burned and before Brent owned it. My friends have all stayed there. One of my friends was married there over 20 years ago. Everyone was safe. It was Brent's stupidity that caused the fire.
@@mobiltec What do you mean exactly with "It was Brent's stupidity that caused the fire" ?
Using electric space heaters in an old building like that without first making sure the wiring is all good. And it was just to keep some stupid cats warm. That's stupid.@@franciscofernandez2658
@@franciscofernandez2658 Brent is a office yuppie he knows nothing about the outdoor/ mining / shit he just has money
@@mobiltec how so?
What caused the fire?
I hear it was an electrical fire, but don't quote me.
Running electric space heaters to keep some stupid cats warm is what caused the fire.
@@mobiltecI don’t think the cats ever lived in the hotel.
@mobiltec1 Why worry about cats getting cold? they have fur coats.
Exactly. There have been cats at the place for a hundred years and all of a sudden they need electric heat?@@dwh5512
Thank goodness you did this great video of the old original American Hotel at Cerro Gordo. Im sure that Brent and his Team will find it very useful when re-building the new American Hotel to recreate many of the spaces and features of the hotel for the new future visitors.
Out with the old in with the new what goes around comes around
I haven't heard Brent mention it, but I really hope he was able to salvage and restore the wood burning fireplace and the historic stove. I'd think both of those should survive a fire, but maybe not.
What happened to the both stoves?? After the fire, Brent has never mentioned them ...
Nothing stays the same. Why would you want it to?
What a shame that was when it burnt to the ground. I didn't make it up there for the first time until, 2021 . I love that place , but I feel it will never be the same now , it's getting too touristy just like burning man .
That's the whole idea of the place . Tourists :)
Weren't you a tourist?
I think it's absolutely fantastic what Brent is undertaking! He has a great vision and can't be stopped. As long as he limits the amount of people visiting through reservations, I love the idea. Just saving the history of the town in itself is AMAZING! I live in Independence and can't wait to visit. Would like to stay in the hotel once it is completed. However, with weather conditions and other issues, it may not be completed for at least another couple years in my estimation. Keep on keeping on Brent! Love your tube videos. They keep me up to date on your progress.
@@HerrHeckler, Thats what his and his Biz partners plan for the area has been all along, Turn it into a Resort type place. Hence thats why the American Hotel Mysteriously burned down just two months after he moved up there after it stood for over a 100 years. It didnt fit or could be be used as a hotel for the public due to its condition.
hopefully old videos of the hotel will remain on line so people can see what once was. it was a very nice hotel.
I wish that double stove could have survived or the wood burning stove.
I hope that Brent will be able to make it look like the original as much as possible. All the iron was salvaged and can be put back in service again.
Yes he saved everything he could, I saw the double cook stove & that amazing fireplace & other metal pieces.
He burned the place down trying to keep some cats warm. He's an idiot.
@@davestevens4263 oh i'm so glad to know some of the older stoves survived! that will be great
