1970 Duster Gauge Panel Repair - Finished look.
one of the lenses only required 800 - 1200 - then 1600 final sand/polish pad before actual polishing compound w/ soft cloth. The Bulb sockets were 5/8" inch w/ 168 light bulbs. Because I already had all of the paint and masking tape -this little project only set me back about $ 75. And the bulk of that was the epoxy and sand paper costs.

I recorded this the day after putting the new 8-3/4" rear end in. Had been sitting for 4 months. It started right up, and still running fine w/ no issues. The wind gave me a little trouble, but I think u can get a pretty good sense of how it turned out.

มุมมอง 563 ปีที่แล้ว
Removed the stock 8-1/4" which I had just put 390 gears and posi center. I broke the drive line and then an axle. So I upgraded to an 8-3/4" set up. Rear came from a 69 Road Runner but need the perches cut off and new ones welded on much further apart. The 69 rear was 5-1/2" narrower than the stock rear. It just barely fit.

A short rolling start burnout video. No "powerbrake" burnout. All motor - no clutch - has a 3600 stall converter and 390 gears. It took a year and a half to build this car to where it is now, and I know it's not a show car. It's just something I've been saving for and planning for the last 20 years.

Edelbrock heads review. #5093 440 Plymouth Satellite
มุมมอง 5K4 ปีที่แล้ว
What I liked and mostly disliked about these heads. They're not at all what Edelbrock claims. I had to send the first heads back because they were so bad. Still with some work they'll work fine. No 3 angle grind. Only exhaust valves are stainless steel. The spring are not capable of .600 lift cam. Guides, retainers, and keepers were all good though.

I don't claim to be an expert restoration guy. Clearly, I'm on a budget. But I think I can make it look and work just fine. I will add the finished Guage cluster In about a week. I don't need subscriptions/ or anything like that. This is just an idea/techniques that I came up w/ years ago to save an already trashed gauge panel/cluster. I just thought it might help someone else save their dash panel too.
So much for buying made in the USA parts, there still junk. What happened to these companies, no pride in their products at all.
Yeah - I hear ya bro. Very frustrating.
Nice job. Gave you a sub. Cool Mopar!
Thanks for compliment. I don't have any of the skills that you do. But I try my best. I already subbed to you a long time ago. Have great day.
how do you like the edelbrock heads after 2 years? Do these heads have straight plugs or are they angled....Im asking since we are using stock manifolds.
Hi...Its still running just fine w/ zero issues. The heads are part# 60925 called (performer) for a roller cam set up. They are definitely angled plugs. Edelbrock does make a flat tappet head part #5093 called (E-street) and those are straight plug for sure. Neither one truly has a 3 angle grind as Edelbrock claims and the #9053's didn't come with stainless steel valves either. I posted a video on the #9053 heads incase you are going with a flat tappet cam. Maybe take a look. I felt the #60925 were of better quality. The 5093 did run just fine too, but I had to change the springs on em" and fix a couple valve seat leaks along with a mild port cleaning just to get em' to a satisfactory condition. Just FYI. P.S. 440 source sells a decent "as-cast"(complete aluminum head) they call (stealth series head) for $600 - quite a bit less than the Edelbrock 9053 and way cheaper than the 60925's and yes - being as-cast, they have straight plugs. Good luck with your build.
What gears would you suggest for a 440 with a blower? I currently have 411, but I feel like I'm not utilizing my first gear or hardly the supercharger as the rpm go so high right off the line and I have to shift almost immediately. I just putter around town, it never sees the track. Any thoughts would be appreciated
I wouldn't want to speculate on that. I'm not an expert. But my motor tops out @ 6300RPM and even with the 373's it still runs a little too high at the end of a 1/4 mile. I think I could probably have gone with a 355 gear ratio without losing very much off of the line. Good luck. I bet that motor must be really something special. I'm jealous. Take care.
Any videos of the duster in the future?
It'll take a couple of years before it's even close to completion. But hoping to get some work done and post something around Christmas 2022 this year. Already getting really hot here. I'm gonna check your channel now. Excited to see that Blown 440. YEE HAW!!! TTYL
I think you SAVED quite a few guys butts!Just think, they would be running around thinking it was THEIR fault, good looking out!
Thank you.
Update.... I broke an axle in the original rear since l posted this video. It now has an 8/3/4" rear out of a 68 RR. I changed the gearing to 3.73 I pulled the sure grip center and replaced it with a "true trac" center. The sure grip always made the car hook towards the passenger side a little. It hooks and pulls nice and straight now with the "true trac" center.
I bought the same heads. I hated them . I had 440 a 590 lift cam . I went faster with my old closed chamber cast heads with the same size valves and ported. I went from 11.30s to 11.50s. You couldnt tightn the plugs and some hit the headers. I even had 20 thousands taken off. The guy I sold them to had them worked on and they slowed his car down to. I was told edelbrock cheated on the flow bench. They lied. There better than stock but not much. Good street heads . I have Max Wedge heads now . I lost $400 on the Edelbrocks but I got MW heads for $1000.
I lost big $ too. Glad u got it all sorted out too. Just saw your Savoy run in Sept. Very nice bro. I subbed.
I learned to buy bare heads rather than complete that way you know what you have the cost is not a drawback learned the hard way after a buying a set of roller ready set that broke a valve after 12 laps
I wish more folks made satellites like this; strong and proud, without slapping roadrunner badges all over them. The wheel base was a wise call as that rear end looks good. Real good. From what I see, nothing short of professional in the interior. I keep checking your channel for great ideas.
Very kind of you to say that. I wish I was a better builder - skill set and budget restricted me, but I still enjoy it. Appreciate you're positivity.
That header panel emblem!!! I have an old crusty one, you mind if I barrow your idea on the red, wh, & blue? I've been trying to cut down the center of old Plymouth hubs and sticking the hub emblem into the center of the header badge with little success
Yes of course, I'm glad you thought it worthy of duplication. l saw it on a slightly older satellite and thought it looked pretty cool. I peeled all of the half-rotted chrome off of the plastic and then just went with it hoping for the best. l would love to see what your building. l dont care what stage it's in. Hope youre enjoying the process of working on it.
Really cool car! That motor is one of the better looking set ups I've seen. Car has a good balance of mods and stock. Beautiful center console, really great job!!
Thank you so much. Appreciate your comment.
Edelbrock is goin to shit since Vic Jr died. Prices too high, quality going down.
You said it perfectly.
@@guidosarducci3047 BTW, see the comments from Donell Muniz? That's me, using her tablet. She's my wife. I might be able to get back my 71 Satellite, which I sold to a buddy in 2005! Total Gramma car. My 72 Sebring was nearly identical, with 2.76s.
@@pookysdad4884 OH...Yeah, Ok. How are ya? Glad you're getting it back. Small block are a lot more price effective for the horsepower it'll bring to the table. I just pulled the 8.25 rear outa my car and sold it to a buddy. I had put a .390 posi in it, but it broke an axle right after it broke the drive line. But I already replaced the axle - It's going into a small block 73' duster. Woulda been perfect fit for your car as long as you keep it under 500 horses. You're like up in New York aren't you? It woulda been to far to pick up anyway. Just thinking out loud. I'm all excited for ya bro.
Hey Guido, thanks for the heads up. I would never buy assembled heads, buy them bare put all the right gear you want in them & have them assembled properly. I know it's more expensive but it's money well spent. Most people/ novices would have just bolted those heads you have straight onto their block without checking them & wondered why that mild cam they installed made it idle so rough! Cheers & stay safe
Yes, I agree but my budget was super tight. I'm sure I have easily gone over my projected cost by $5,000 Funny how that always seems to be the case. LOL Even a low budget build like this one. Thanks for the advise.
Just get you some TrickFlows and be done with it. You actually need to take those to a machine shop and get'em dialed and ported. And no matter what the manufacturer says,...you wanna get your springs matched to your cam.
Thanks for the comment, and I do hear u. But putting the correct springs on before the cam break-in could've easily damaged the cam I chose. And I wasn't gonna run that risk after all of my hard work. So, I used the springs that came with the heads for the break-in because they were almost exactly what the manufacturer called for on the break-in procedure. Just a little lighter than specified. Then I pulled em' back apart to put the correct springs on after the cam break-in. I think Edelbrock has much to be desired, but after I went through the heads, I think they were more than acceptable. Way better than the iron 906's I was running before. I worked at a rather famous local machine shop for many years before he retired and closed his doors. So, I have a good understanding of what to do and look for. I did a mild port match and flash clean up for the 5093 heads. Nothing huge. Now, I'm running 60925's now with a roller cam on a different 440 that I just finished in June 2021 this year. They're not near as nice as the CND'd TrickFlow by any stretch of the imagination, but they're way better than the 5093 heads that I reviewed. And I gave em' a huge porting this time. I shoulda done a review on the 60925's but it was getting really hot out by then and I just wanted to finish the build ASAP. Besides the point of this review was to point out what I thought of Edelbrock quality. And that Edelbrock is not nearly as great as they claim, and they still aren't in my opinion. Take care Man.

Nice walk around, car sounds GOOD. I like the wheels tucked.
Wish they were tucked up like yours. I'm really liking the 373 as well. Can actually drive it on the freeway now. Heh, Heh.
See you got it in! Respect the amount of work. I would like a trutrac at some point. So far I like my 3.73 gears with a 28” tire. But need a new speedometer gear.
It was a real chore for me. Not getting any younger. LOL Glad I added the drain plug. Should make things easier in the future. I'm running a 28 tire as well. The truetrac will still hop on corners unless your real easy on the gas pedal. But it's much straighter off the line now compared to before with the sure grip - posi. I guess all of the sure grip cars drifted to the passenger side. At least that's what the guy who built the center section told me. Mine sure did anyway. Hope all is well on your end. Keep em' coming. TTYL bro.

Thanks man. It's no GTX though. I'm jealous. How's it going on your end?
Not to bad really. Just ordered new tail lights. $600, new bezels $200, and some new hood blinkers. Should get them next week. The old ones were ok but just really tired. Still no paint done. Just working around the edges. That motor of yours is radical. its amazing. Wish i had that one. My car is basically a daily driver now. Its gets a little better every month. Im thinking about taking it on the freeway soon. Havent chanced it yet. Take care.. Enjoy the ride.
I forgot mention in this video that the giant nut under the center section is just a collar I welded on to protect the new bung or drain plug I welded in. It serves no other purpose.
thanks for the warning
Good information thanks
i have the edelbrock rpm heads on the 340 in my 71 duster . the guy that built my engine said he only will use the edelbrock heads if they are just the bare casting and he puts in good quaility valves , seats and springs .
That's the best thing to do. I'm on a tight budget and so I had to do as much as possible by myself. Plus, I'm kinda particular and always feel better when I assemble things myself. I've heard the Edelbrock guides are not the best either, but I cannot confirm that. I was just going off of what I found personally. My RPM's have preformed very well so far. But still needed much work out of the box to make em' acceptable. I really like the 71 Duster. And the 340's are legendary. One of my buddies has a 9 second 70 Duster w/ a 340. You might not be a professional engine builder, but you are smart enough to know what to look for. The only difference between you and me is, they would keep getting their heads returned until I had a set that was right from the start, the right valves as advertised, Springs everything... Appalling to purchase something brand new and find them out of spec, leaking xcetera. Let the buyer beware today.
Thank you. I appreciate the comment very much. I'm currently running Edelbrock 60925's RPM's at the moment. I still had to send one back due to quality control issues. But I will say they're much better quality than the E-street heads. They had 100% stainless steel valves and I found zero leaks on the seats. Springs were decent too, but I ran the match set for my cam anyway. Just another $120 for the springs. The RPM's still required a good port cleaning. And I opened em' up bigger this time. The ports looked the same (to me anyway) on the E-street and RPM's but the E-streets are NOT capable of a roller cam at any lift. The seat boss' won't take it. That's why I upgraded to the RPM's. If would've known that at the very beginning I would've never ran the E-street heads in the first place. I was hoping to upgrade the springs later when I went full roller. The Trick-flow were still outa my price range. I should've got the RPM heads the first time around and just changed the springs for my tappet cam. then use the same heads again when I went full roller. But for all of the money I wasted on these Edelbrock heads I could've gone with the fully CND' Trick-flow heads and been money ahead. I just never had that much money at one time. I still don't. LOL I got it together Christmas eve and I'm content with it now. I hope your build goes great. What are u working on?

It’s come a long ways, but are they ever done??
No, they're never done. LOL I agree. A couple of months ago, I twisted the stock driveline and broke the rear u-joint. So I replaced it w/ a custom built heavy duty driveline, and then right after that, I snapped an axle on the 8-1/4" rear end I had just built with a new posi center. That's why I went to Phoenix. To get that 8-3/4" rear. That was the guy with 69' convertible Roadrunner. It's a sure grip out of a 68' RR I'm having the drop out rebuilt now w/ a True Trac center and changing from the 323's that are in it now and going w/ 373's. I had put 390 gears in my 8-1/4" rear but it would run outa legs at the end of the track. So I'm hoping the 373's will be just right for my set-up. How's your build coming along? I'm going to your channel now to see what's new. Good to hear from u man.
Thank u so much for the truth of the product
Yep...No problem. good luck with your build.
The E Streets are as cast, no port work at all. The RPMs are finished a little better on the port openings, but ya still gotta take em to a shop and get em dialed in, and get the correct springs for your cam. From what I hear, Trick Flows are much better quality, and a LOT more flow.
Yeah, that's what I think too. Trick-flow makes a head that's fully CND' from the runners to the bowls. I'm running RPM's at the moment. I still had to send one back due to quality control issues. But I will say they're much better quality than the E-street heads. They had 100% stainless steel valves and I found zero leaks on the seats. I'm doing a set of Edelbrock 60925 at the moment...The call em' the "performer" series. It's the cheapest roller heads on the market right now. I thought I could go to a full roller upgraded with these 5093 heads , but the seats and castings won't take the extra pressure from the roller springs. I should've done more home work before my purchase. Waste of money on the 5093 heads. Unless your staying with a flat tappet cam. Hey Mark...I don't remember what pressure they were at - at the time when I first went though em'. It's been a while since l put that motor together. I do remember they were even further away from what I needed for my little .488 cam at like 470 or 490. I just can't remember. I pretty much wrote down everything but that. ( I knew I was gonna pull em' after the break-in anyway so i didn't pay that much attention to what the exact specs were. I wrote down what the main & rod bearing clearances were, what I cut the rings at (the gap I mean). Stuff like that. But I can say that the springs did work just fine for the break-in. Then I put the correct springs for my cam on after that and the heads are making decent power now with 10.367:01 pistons. A lot better power that when I was running my old #906 cast heads. Wish I would've had the doe-rae-me for a roller set up. This particular set up was about $2,300 les than the roller set up I was wishing for - dreaming of. I thought I could use these heads to convert to a roller cam later on. But I discovered later that the seats and valves wont tolerate a roller cam. I guess Edelbrock ( still ?) has a flat tappet head (all pre assembled) part#60929 that cam be converted to a roller set up later on. The last I saw...they were like $700 for 1 head. I can't remember if the were fully CNC'd or not. Sorry I don't a good answer for u. But If my limited experience can be of any further service to u. I'll try answer as best I can. Or, like in this case - if I don't know I'll tell u that too. What are u building? If u don't mind my asking. Just curious. Good luck with your build.
Yeah, A lot of rattling inside....door panels rattling? rear window trim rattling? It's far from perfect. I wish I had more time to make it better but I'm dying - got bad heart. I will post another video when I get some time. A real burnout video. Not a power brake burn out! A real ( no brake - no line lock ) burnout!
Guido Sarducci For real? Bad heart ❤️? You on a list for a replacement? How old are you?
@@rhythmstyx1945 No list...Congestive Heart Failure. I'm 53. Broke my Back at work and the construction company I worked for 8 years said I was lying...Delayed the required back surgeries (5 total surgeries) for 3 years. 3 years laying in a bed wishing to die. I fought 8 of their lawyers by myself and finally won the right for back surgery. It was painful and took another 2 years, but then I was able to begin to learn to walk again. But in that 5 years on my back, my heart deteriorated severely and it just wont ever recover. There's no list for people like me. I've accepted it and just live as a best as I can. Thanks for well wishes. Appreciated very much. Sorry if that was too much info. But that's what happened to me. Don't trust any employer. You are nothing to them just a means to an end.
Guido Sarducci I thought I was the only one. Bad back and neck due to heavy construction work. Had neck fusion surgery and got a staff infection. The last 3 years have been hell. Trying to get moving has been a horror show. I'm 57, addicted to pain meds, went through my retirement money. My only hope is an current attempt for workers comp which I don't have much faith in. I'm not very religious but God bless you man. I lost my 69 and 70 Road Runners due to this. Also lost my vacation home, foreclosure, and may lose my primary residence. Life can be a bear. Where do you live? I'll pray for you man, don't give up!
@@rhythmstyx1945 In a little town called Apple Valley in High desert Ca. I lost my entire 401K too waiting for courts to finish up all of my hearings. Thank God for my family. They took me in and let me stay until I was able to work again. Sorry bout your RR's must've been very hard to see em' go. I'm praying your workers comp comes through right away. I got a decent retro check after I won my case. Didn't make up for the pain and caused by my former boss' lies. I lived and worked in Las Vegas at the time. Probably made my boss at least $30 million in early completion bonus money alone. And he lied about when and where I was hurt. He was actually the one who made me go see a doctor the day I broke my back. It was the one piece of evidence they couldn't erase. In 8 years he never said "you better go see a doctor." At the time I just thought I really hurt my back and actually went back to work the next day until the pain was so bad I couldn't even walk. That's when I knew something was really wrong. Synthetic morphine couldn't even touch it. I cursed God for years. It wasn't till I was ready....I mean really ready to kill myself that I gave up and begged him to help or I would kill myself so I wouldn't suffer any more and most of all burden my family any longer. A few days later I got a final judgement in the mail and started getting workmans comp along with a retro check and finally permission to se a neuro- surgen. Most of the physical damage was already done by then of course and now I'm dying from lack of proper medical treatment from the onset of the injury. They call it systemic or caused by another unrelated condition. But it was a direct result of refusing me medical help from the onset. My broken vertebrae healed up all crooked and had to be cut apart in some places or corners ground off in other places to help with pain. 5 back surgeries to halfway get back to normal. 2 plates - nine pins and or bolts went into my back. There's no legal recourse for that even though what they actually did was murder me. It just took a while. I hope things will get better for u very soon. I pray for that my friend. Where are u?
Guido Sarducci I'm in NY, just north of Yankee stadium. The workers comp laws are terrible. If you get hurt and make a claim good luck holding your job. Best of luck with your Satellite, she sounds great. I am looking at a project 68 Barracuda. I subscribed so I'll stay in touch. Praying for ya Brother Man! Stay strong.
I had the same exact scoop on my 71 roadrunner. I had an accident 😑 and the body guys couldn't find a roadrunner hood, so they put a satellite hood on it and the cobra jet hood scoop on it. Nice car.
Thanks....It's my first Chrysler. Been a sharp learning curve with theses Chrysler heads. Really like the grills on the 71 RR. Very cool.
woah woah woah, Chrysler never made a 390 rear gear ratio guy, they made a 391 and also you sound like joe dirts parents, plymouth never made a posi, they made a sure grip... armatures. Cool car for the trailer park tho.
It's aftermarket 390 posirtraction. Not a Chrysler center. If u want to share your contact info I can send pics of it and the installation. no problem.
@@guidosarducci3047 Im good dude, thanks
Whoa whoa whoa yourself GUY. Plymouth never made a sure grip either. The sure grip is a Chrysler product which is also available in Plymouth vehicles. Further more, Chrysler sure grips were actually first called "Power-loc" which were purchased from Dana or called "Spin-resistant" from Borg Warner - then re-named "sure grip" by Chrysler not Plymouth. Weather it's the Ford - Traction-loc or a what ever - they are all what's known as a limited slip differential. Posi - is just the most widely used name for any limited slip. You spelled "amateur" wrong too. 🤣
@@ddogmog Hey man, lets not harsh on each other - Yeah, I'm sure you're right but I think he already knew that.
@@guidosarducci3047 Sorry man. I saw some of your other videos. I think it's a Bad Ass Satellite. And I know the type of phony person he is. Never worked a day in his life. He buys nice old cars w/ his daddys money. But he only buys cars that have already had the hard work done for him. Then he sells them after he thrashes them because he can't work on it for himself. Well, maybe a few simple bolt-on accessories but he doesn't really know anything about cars. Then his daddy buys him another one and he does it all over again. He only parrots what he's heard from more knowledgeable people and tries to sound like he knows what he's talking about. Don't let him bother you. He's just a poser. Sorry but that's exactly what he is.
That’s sick dude!
