Jan Zelezny had already thrown over 90 metres in three early-season competitions before he arrived in the German city of Jena but there still little to suggest that he was going to launch the javelin well beyond 98 metres on this day 24 years ago. The Czech thrower had admittedly topped the annual rankings by the prestigious US magazine Track and Field News for the previous four years, was the ...

Moorcroft overcame his partial disappointment in the 1982 European Athletics Championships (the bronze medal) to take the Commonwealth title. Thank you very much for the upload, Merry Christmas+Happy+Blessed New Year 2025!
Super for 42 cents a litre!
Did Sandy Roberts know a little bit more about Cathy Freeman’s role here than we all did lol 🤫
I had long since given up ever finding Te Waka Huia's performance here. (It didn't help that I only remembered their name and not the event they were performing at.) Tonight, I randomly tried looking again, and discovered that pretty much all of the 80s and 90s Olympic and Commonwealth Games opening and closing ceremonies have been uploaded since I last looked. And I eventually ended up here. Thank you so much for uploading this. I can now switch that little piece of my brain that was obsessed with it over to something else.
He did all the same stuff as Lloyd after finish training Lloyd would ring out all his sweaty training gear and it was Adidas because he was in England in National at welterweight, so the England boxing team sped by added us and the water that used to fall out from his clothes with unbelievable
This is truly amazing I was 13 in 1980. Let me tell everybody something Alan and his wife and the other person are 1 offs why I bet no other athlete trained like that I was shocked he was training like a elite, amateur or professional boxer. Seriously, he reminded me of my brother Lloyd morgan. Tottenham Boxing Club in the 1970s from 1977 onwards to 82. He train unbelievable hard exactly exactly exactly Alan Wells. Just reminded me of Lloyd speedball groundwork workouts. Steam coming from his body soon as I saw that I said Lloyd man hundred percent. Listen respect to Alan Wells. He was unbelievable a one off. I now I want to see the rest of this video .

wow - thanks - just brilliant - greatest Long Jump competition ever
I lived on Beaconsfield Tce, when it was the main road to get from Brisbane to the Southern end of the Hornibrook Bridge., hence to Redcliffe. During long weekends, particularly the Thursday night/afternoon, traffic would be banked up past the Brighton Hotel till late at night, up to 9pm and more. 2024 this year, is the 40th Anniversary of the Fast Train Proposal Melbourne, Sydney. As the Redcliffe train, only another 40 or so years left, and it may happen.
I'm the young boy escorting team Hong Kong out for their final appearance at the Games. It's a core memory of mine being a part of the opening ceremonies and meeting the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh. At 58:23 is when the team first appears on camera
Lisa from Bal Mac school when I was there too...1980....Dunedin...she was awesome then...and here she is 1988.
Thanks for this love redcliffe ❤

this is so great to have it on youtube - thanks Duane Where is the fabulous Maori Powhiri Pita Sharples created - a shame its cut out - we just see the Maori warriors calling / leading on the Sea Entrance. my 9 yr old granddaughter is super proud of me being the choreographer he he

I can tell you it was quite a warm day. I was wearing a mascot costume in downtown Victoria that day.
I'd forgotten how excitable Norman May was about the Empire
Terrible running style 😂 but it did the job
Horrible leg by Freeman, Dq was justified.
Wow, what a fantastic race! Never seen it before. Thanks for postin. X
Yeah! I've never seen this, but 4 in with a chance of a win in the 4×4, not sure I've seen that anywhere else
Clark thought he only had to turn up to win this. ZBlack blew him away.
Fab
I bet Walker regrets this chance, if ran different, might have had a chance at gold
Thanks for posting this! I was expecting the Cdn. Broadcast. Corporation. BUT...I was delighted at the differences in coverage. There are a surprising number of things Australia shows that Cdn. Br. Corp. didn't.
Thank you very much for this ❤very interesting I lived in woody point for 25years best years of my life
Brilliant video thanks Anne fulwood so correct even on such marathon telecast so immaculate so polished flawlessly anchored and her voice never hurried never swears or makes grammatical error so composed ladies and gentlemen she used to introduce guests so stylish
Dove Edwin was later disqualified and banned from competing.
Where is the full race of Lisa Curry winning the 100m butterfly please.
I am so proud of my uncle Jean-Louis Ravelomanantsoa lane 8 finalist in the 100 meters.
He was the first person to win the Stawell Gift in Australia from scratch position in 12 sec flat. Still considered the greatest final at Stawell
Still makes me cry

record that still has not been broken. 26 years. He was a great champion
doper
I loved watching El G in his prime, amazing athlete - he won’t be holding this record for much longer though. Barring injury Jakob has got this within the next three years. El G has made his mark in history regardless; Jakob’s greatness still unfolding.
Jacob Should run 3.25 with modern light technology pacer If hecham has this light technology in his time he will run 3.25 3.24
Both athletes immensely talented, but Jakob has the benefit of modern technology as well, hence why I feel he’ll break El G’s record.
This just made my day, I am one of those kids dancing around in the yellow shirts.
Get ready for Jakob Ingebrigtsen's breaking this record..... he just ran 3:26 & change after recently losing training to injury. The writing is ready to be writen.
He will never be nearly as good as elguerrouj regardless
This epnt Happen. Ingebrigtsen still needs .75 Seconds. This is huge😊
He is an extraordinary talent but carbon plates in soles plus light pacing helping as fuck
Wonderful footage of the Redcliffe I used to visit in the 70s. These days, it's home ❤
My left ear enjoyed this.
"Mono" television broadcasting back then.
@@ЭдгарГольцовhe last race in Monaco was close let us what would happen the guy is really tough
He will run sub 3:26 next year. The Olympics is his focus this year, and this will not leave enough in his tank for a world record attempt post Olympics.
Forget it

Fantastic race! What an exciting line up for the anchor legs. Freeman did very well to pass Gunnell who was no slouch and an experienced anchor runner. Thanks for posting!
Wow! What an exciting race and exciting atmosphere. Strange choice for the two anchor runners, both sprinters and not 400m specialists. Thanks for posting!
I swear I swam every stroke with her whilst I was watching that live, and I've just done it again now in 2024
