That is a software I sell called eTakeoff go to steel estimating solutions.com and then click the integration tab on top of page you will see eTakeoff listed there
Pretty much how I do it… but wish I would have saw this a few years ago when I first went to Bluebeam. But.. what’s the bid-wizard you’re mentioning? and I’m sure you figured this out by now but just in case… it’s easier to split the screen view since they don’t have a good way to get you back to where you were on plan. I do one side plan view and other side details.

This is a great idea. The only problem I see is that about 99% of the time you bid a job the drawings are only about 75% complete let alone having access to a model. The problem these days is that the schedules are so compacted that they are still designing the buildings at the same time fabrication is taking place.
Thanks for the comment Mike, yes you are right that is a big problem. Really I'm just trying to be forward looking, the concept of model based estimating is being thrown around out there more and more, and it is our intent to have something in place when and if it goes main stream at some point in the future. On the other hand for a company that does design build and creates a model through that process this allows for a lighting quick erection estimate. Really most fitting for a fabricator/erector but there are more and more erectors getting access to models as well.
