For sure a strong wind, but I doubt that the average wind speed was 35 knots. Looks more like 5-6 Beaufort (22-27 knots) which is still challenging.

excellent form, try to steer through the waves slightly serpentine so you don't smack them unnecessarily which only slows down the boat. When you're throwing up massive spray, usually it's because you're hitting the brakes ,,,,

In the 80's, I surfed my Laser on big days off of the Point in Ventura-CA. It was an absolute blast dropping in on a huge wave! There is nothing like the "buzz" that the hull makes when it rips out of the water on plane...

I've just found out that I've set my cunningham always wrong, I have a radial and I weight 63Kg on a 170cm, so I'll totally loosen it compared on how I kept it until now. Thank you for the info!

I grew up sailing laser’s. My dad bought one when they first came out. Learned to sail and race in that boat…and when the mast step broke we repaired it and it went for another five or so years.

I once sailed in a Laser Regatta with 8 Beaufort, made it to the starting line and sailed back, but never started. It was gusting 9 Beaufort, they shouldn't have started the Regatta. 11 of the 80 sailors made it through, I don't know how. Two almost drowned from sheer exhaustion. 23 masts broke.

I am out scouting videos about tacking the Laser. I figured out this past weekend racing to roll over on your knees - until this weekend I was on the balls of my feet. I see this happening with your tacks. As a Laser noob, everything is new to me. Round chined, can be very tippy.

Excessive drag, thy name is laser. What an appalling design from the outset. Similar to Ben Lexen's ill fated 12ft Swinger. The worst form of hull shape other than a bathtub or a sphere , the round bilge design has no redeeming features, maximising its wetted surface and skin drag at every opportunity, no hard chines to separate flow. Displaced water racing vertically up its sides via coanda effect and minimising planing lift. Sure it's fine as a one design class to test the ability of sailors to overcome the high drag shape but as this video showcases, have you ever seen so much wind power available and yet so little boat speed as a result. The laser hull is close to the nautical equivalent of a parachute.
