near Bradley's swimming 🙂, some mornings get that before heading towards work if we've not made at home first 😅
Thanks. How do you bundle multiple migrations living in multiple projects with ef bundle?
I currently would just have multiple bundle files and at deploy time loop through them and deploy
Awesome being able to see how well he is doing that side of the world. Please keep posting so that we can keep an eye on how he is doing. Lots of love from us this side of the world ❤
Thanks Billy, he made loads of progress from Feb to Dec and training really hard every day… back in the pool today 💪
This was very helpful, and I was able to successfully start signing my commits across multiple e-mails / GitHub accounts. Thanks!
THANK YOU SO MUCH U HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH TIME THIS SAVED!!! THANKS!
Thanks
MUCH THANKS BROER! Have an assignment I started and could'nt figure out why the helk my user stories wouldn't show, now I know!
Awesome, glad I could help. Good luck with the assignment 💪
Could you save the github token in Github as a secret?
Yes, there should be no issue doing that 😊
Thanks for this video!! But I have a question. For instance, if I successfully migrated a few stories from one project to another, but then the source project receives updates with new attachments and comments on the already migrated stories, so can I use this migration tool to update those stories with the new attachments and comments? If yes can you explain how?? Thanks in advance
You should be able to run the migration again, as long as the tracking field exists, it will update tge same work item each time. You will find issues if you have mad3 changes in the destination project though. You can double check the docs for any flags that would be relevant to the updates migration
That was interesting. Excellent explanation too. I did not know about extending the byte class, or the Flags attribute and how to work with it, I always just used Enums instead of magic numbers. Thank you!
Hello, I am running JSON script to transfer test plan and was getting this error. How to resolve or debug this. "Sequence contains more than one element"
What other information is surrounding that error? The message itself is because there is likely because the code is using a Single somewhere and there it's finding more elements. The best approach to get help is creating an issue in the project repository with information and logs and someone can assist from there 🙂 github.com/nkdAgility/azure-devops-migration-tools/issues
thx for the useful tutorial! one question to you - during the migration from Git to Azure DevOps, will it keep the git history as well? so I can keep the context as well. thx for your reply!
Howzit, yes all git history is kept when migrating between platforms. You won't get pull request history though
@@gordonbeeming thx for your reply! do you know how is it possible to migrate the PRs as well? maybe using some other tools
@@veranikaisakova1812 There's only tooling that I know of that will do high validity migrations to GitHub from some sources, but not to Azure DevOps

Thanks for this Gordon. I've been happily using GitHub Pages somewhat blindly, it's great to see a little more about how it actually works.
I love GitHub pages, I don't use them enough 😅. It's so much easier than rolling some Azure Infra for basic sites
Nice video, thanks for sharing, found it very useful and will be sharing this with people I know 👍
awesome, I'm glad you found it useful 😊
after at least an hour of searching u saved me man. Thank you!
That's awesome to hear 😀
It is very hard to hear you. The sound is quite muffled.
Thanks for the feedback 😊, The audio should be better in newer video's.
Great video, thanks for this. I shared it internally with other peeps as well. 👍
Slick explanation, ha ha reflection 🤣
Sick video it’s super valuable to learn about the compiler and how it works under the hood
❤❤❤❤❤ slick! I found this super elucidating. Access modifiers are simple, but there are loads of new or c# specific ones that i just don’t use or don’t understand enough to use. This has helped that problem for me heaps. Tytytytyty.
Great vid! I like that you built out what could be a solution that might be used in a project. Question, could you/would you integrate the last idea into a class that is inherited? I.e. any class that inherits from ‘Tracer’ would have all its methods traced? Feels like it’d be a lot of work but could be cool/useful.
Thanks 🙂. Interesting idea, I'm not sure offhand of a way to "just do it", but these days we have so many "proper" ways to hook in to the pre compile process that we could probably build something like it using source generators for any project type. For web projects, you could look at an attribute and some middleware that effectively does the wrapping on an endpoint, but it's not quite what you asked for 😅
I’m famous!!!! Wowowowow. Really cool to show that a lot of looping syntax are just while loops in disguise 🥸
It's crazy how much of C# is largely syntactical sugar 😅
ahh, I forgot about the system tick count variable as the seed 🤣
The good bad old days 😅
Another slick video from the master himself! I’d love to you see do a video on ‘thread safety’ in C#. You mentioned it throughout this video and I’d love some clarification.
Thank you 🤩 I meant to share this in the video and forgot, you can take a look at this post for more info around the thread safety aspect 🙂 andrewlock.net/building-a-thread-safe-random-implementation-for-dotnet-framework/
No longer in the feature previews and still seemingly in beta :\ I wonder if they're moving towards something else.
Interesting, the docs mentioned they've paused onboarding to the feature. Previously this has been that they are about to release the feature with some changes docs.github.com/en/issues/managing-your-tasks-with-tasklists
Good gracious! My man just made Switch statements about the most interesting thing I’ve learned in a while about C#! 🎉
Thanks for the feedback 🤩
I did not know of the $ = the {, nice one
I'm glad that tip was useful 😃. I love small details like this that are scatter in the framework 🙂, it's partially how there's new things to learn everyday 🤩
Best explanation ever. However I am not finding support for the editor to understand for jsx snippet
Howzit, There's a bunch of information at microsoft.github.io/monaco-editor/ Alternatively you could go to the GitHub repo and start a discussion around any topics you need more info for 🙂
Thanks for this video! Really helpful. This is exactly what i need for the migration work i need to do!
That's great to hear, reach out if you have any issues 🙂
@@gordonbeeming thank you! actually im having issues haha, so sorry, but what is the best way to reach you? Been debuging for a few hours now but I cant seem to figure out the error im getting.
@@daryllmamaril4225 The easiest is probably through Twitter or LinkedIn twitter.com/GordonBeeming www.linkedin.com/in/gordon-beeming/ For this migration tool specifically, you could also post issues on the project repo github.com/nkdAgility/azure-devops-migration-tools/issues
Now that is a really good tip, I honestly would have just figured that I was silly and move on, the $$ for an element is interesting, nice one 👍
Thank you ☺️ PS: I typo'd my words... it's !! for an element id to link between slides 😓
Love this so much!
Thank you 🤗
Nicely done, I do like the way that you covered both ends of the issue with the rename, user & automation, and a special call out to the REST API as when companies mature in their processes, using the API is always featured to solve problems. Very cool, thanks 👍
Thanks. Does it migrate comments/discussion and attachments?
Howzit, yes attachments and comments are migrated with the Azure DevOps Migration Tool 😊
Thank you this was helpful as I needed to go from ACE editor to this.

Can we move work item from one organization to another organization
Howzit, take a look at this video and the tool mentioned. th-cam.com/video/2hrOKRk0xFM/w-d-xo.html It lets you migrate between organizations as well as between cloud and on-premises 😊
Great tip mate!
For anyone needing a code sample of this, my updated blog engine has this in both standard js/html and .NET Blazor github.com/GordonBeeming/GordonBeemingCom
Can i move automatically the work items?
You'd need to run something on a timer to 'automatically' do a migration 🙂
Very helpful. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
nicely done, easy to follow, thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it! 💪
Hi there, I have about 7,000 items I need to move from one project to another. Would you suggest moving them by type? Will connections stay in tact? I started this process in Excel but it’s horribly tedious and does not keep photos
Howzit, 1. You could take a look at the video below. It's title is around test artifacts but the approach works for all work item types. th-cam.com/video/2hrOKRk0xFM/w-d-xo.html This approach makes use of an open source tool called Azure DevOps Migration Tools nkdagility.github.io/azure-devops-migration-tools/ 2. Alternatively and my preferred method although it only works in the same account/collection which it sounds like you are using anyway is... To use the bulk update endpoint and you change the project through that update as well as any field mapping you'd perform in that same update. if you have identical process templates in both projects the update is simpler because it's mainly the team project field that needs to be updated. I wrote a very complicated tool to handle field mapping and full transforms using the 2nd method at my previous company but it wasn't my IP to share so I don't have it anymore. Feel free to ping me if you have any more questions 😊
