I am so impressed with Killetta. I was in china in January 2020, and was on the last flight out. I wish I missed it, to be on a Killetta 747 to March AFB. I would. work for Killietta for free. Thank you Con. and god bless your son
Connie Kalitta started his airline in the 1970s flying the radial engine, tailwheel Bech 18, which I too was flying in the 1970s. Connie made enough money driving a Top Fuel Dragster to start his little freight hauling company. Now, he owns a huge fleet of Boeing 747s and 777s. He is the epitome of the American dream since he has amassed this fleet with only an 8th grade education.
Kalitta Air has come a long way from when in the 1970s when Connie first started his company flying Beech 18s, which I also flew for 3,000 hours in the 1970s. I am a life long drag racer and have been a Connie Kalitta fan since the early 1960s when I first saw him at the track driving a front engine Top Fuel Dragster. And, like Connie, I am a pilot and a drag racer. I flew for United Airlines 1986-2015 and was based in New York for 14 of those years. One day in about 2010 or so, I was taxing out for takeoff at Newark flying as captain on a Boeing 757. On the north cargo ramp sat a Kalitta Air B-747. I told my copilot to look at that 747 as it represented the best example EVER of the American dream. He asked why that was and I told him the guy who owns that Boeing 747 and about 25 more of them only has an 8th grade education.
I am on my way. 747
Kalitta does maintenance….?
This place seems so cool to work at.
I would subscribe to the channel but currently it has 747 subscribers, let's leave it at that
very cool, didn't know you guys had such a good schedule as well. Seems a great company to work for
Like a Family but pay is like family too❤❤❤
This is one of the many reasons i want to work there
That 74 in the background is beautiful
I'm really liking these videos coming from Kalitta. Seems like a great place to work
seems like a good company to work for
seems like a great company to work for. I've jumpseated on these guys and they are great.
Hey Dave…. Good to see you here.. thanks again for the Jumpseat.
I love that ALL these airlines are begging for pilots😂.
In my opinion you didn't start a whole new career.......you just took your experience that you gained in the airline industry and made a next logical career advancement. You are one that can see the far horizon and know what is best vs. staying in the publicly traded large corporate meat grinder. Good for you and best of luck going forward. Your vision will do you AND Kalitta Air wonders! 👍
My dad helped build Pomona. I grew up on the track around Connie and a lot of the guys.
Do you still have to retire at 65?
Pretty awesome that an American company can do this. Ironically on this you tube page there’s a video about a Kalitta 747 that had a triple engine failure on takeoff.
Just try to keep those engines from falling off again.
Rogue one request clearance
It doesn’t work out to two weeks on, two weeks off. It’s more like four weeks on, two weeks off. If you are off the first two weeks of the month, then working the second two weeks, then your schedule has you working the first two weeks the next month, you won’t get home for a month.
Why do you show 747 when the captain is a 777 captain?
In the late 80’s I watched Connie buzz the race-tower at the nhra gators in FL. First met Connie in’86
Hey Dispatch we're here in Sheepdip Pakistan when can we come home ? Dispatch: Oh yeah ah.... any day now, just as soon as we can find some cargo........Just standby !!!!!!!
lol what is sheepdip? I'm asking cause I'm pakistani lol
Very impressive!
Is it publicly traded?
COVID mandatory vaccine
The comments here paint an interesting picture….,
I worked for Kalitta. Had young CPT run us off the runway, mismanaged the thrust levers and didn’t have her hand on the tiller. When we stopped, she started crying. Rather than taxi off and re enter the runway at the start , she simply shoved the thrust levers up and continued the takeoff roll. At the interim stop, she called the chief pilot who brushed the whole incident aside, and added; make sure the FO doesn’t fly the last leg. I should’ve said; if the FO was flying, this wouldn’t have happened. Director of ops and chief pilot are both hacks.
When was this?
@@TB-um1xz Last May I believe. The Captain now works for Spirit.
@@moronibreitbart6055 ah, I left 3 years ago. All my buddies left for greener pastures as well, so I don't have the inside scoop anymore.
When his son, Scott, died in a Funny Car crash caused by a blower explosion that resulted in a huge fire that burned his parachute and he went into the sand trap and retention net at 300 mph, I was so crushed for his dad. Was so sad. Scott was a big name in NHRA drag racing. Was a major loss.
THE DAY THAT CHANGED NITRO DRAG RACING is a vid about Eric Medlen and Scott's fatal crash. They only run 1000 ft. instead of the 1 /4 mile.
Top shelf in racing, Top shelf in air freight,C.K.!!👍🏽🇺🇸
I’m sold. On my way!
Do they take easa licence for pilots ?
His shirt fits like a cargo pilot’s.
and he looks 15 years old
Oscoda is where I Got my start as a AMT. I was fresh out of A&P school 19 years old. I taxied my first A/C a 747 in Miami when I was 20. I never forget the experiences got in my short time with the company. Back the it was AIA. I now am at Southwest Airlines 22 years time. I went from working on the biggest planes to the smallest planes. I sure do miss wide bodies.
Oh dear……………..seriously ? How are they even still in business ?
Cargo airlines are usually always profitable because unlike passenger demand, cargo demand is quite regular.
@@ZK-APA Next time you’re riding on a pax airliner look out the window while they’re running the belt loader. After the luggage goes on the CARGO goes on.
@@savagecub you know right not all cargo is allowed in a passenger plane. There is literally a regulation regarding this.
@@ZK-APA Indeed and as a captain for a passenger airline I am very happy with this arrangement !
@@savagecub can't disagree with you on that.
I flew there for several years and loved it. My liver took a beating, lol. I lived off 5 towns pound cake and Scotch. It was like being a rock star.
I don't think they stay at 5 clowns anymore. I do miss that colorful bathroom tho.
I love that all airlines are begging people to come work for them. Airlines deserve the trouble they helped create in this industry.
Right? I agree. For years even flying the "regionals" was a shit job. Food stamps, etc. people left cuz they couldnt take it anymore; helping to create todays pilot shortage. I personally know 3 pilot who quit, back in the early 2000's...
They do do some nice flying but it is work.😊
My goal is to move back up to the Oscoda/Tawas area in the near future and work for Kalitta again. Enjoyed working there in 1994/95 when it was American International Airways.
If they still had the 747-200s, I would, wanna be a flight engineer !!
I remember back in the day, the rogue pilots with violations on their record that couldn’t get hired by the major airlines work for Kalitta Air.
Still the way it is.
@@noway4281 checkride failures too?
@@MacrossJet yup
ya, not surprising. thats how you keep the salaries low....
@noway4281 not sure, since a bunch of us left to go to the airlines and Ups
Where is it located?
Horrible company to work for
WHY?? ENLIGHTEN US PLEASE.
@@william7038 shit pay, shit schedules, shit planes, especially compared to legacy airlines
@@aerialbugsmasheryou lost me at shit planes.
@@kingcfnjeff5492 He forgot to mention they have outhouses too...
@@aerialbugsmasher well....shit pilots gotta work too....
Yeah right.. wondering why everyone is quitting Kalitta….let me guess…
Tell us why??
its a great place to work but myself and many others just got burned out after about 5 years. I miss it there but it does beat you up after some time. I recommend taking a vacation to recharge and try not to work so much overtime and this would help with burn out.
tell us why?
You are joking, right?
lol.. Right! who are they fooling?
Wow! Amazing
Why the call signe connie?
