Curious to what you were expecting on 'the Plane' shots in 1963... If this 'Put you off' the Movie then there's about 75 to hundred Classic films from the 60's you're just really gonna hate. It's hilarious to watch 'Reactors' that react to a 50 year old film but illogically applies today's standards to them. It makes you look silly.

Slim Pickens was a rodeo star in real life besides being an actor. The look he gives when putting on the cowboy hat shows that he knows he’s breaking regulations, but this situation allows him to get away with it. Another point is that it was a common trope for Europeans to look down on Americans as naive cowboys when it came to international politics. Check out Graham Greene’s The Third Man.

Do you think the comedy aspects made the film more disturbing? Like if it were a straight horror, it could be written off emotionally, but the fact the characters also make you laugh and feel good makes the dark parts that much more jarring?

Anyway, from current real-life statistics, the population of the NYC metro area as of 2020 was over 20 million. By the way, in addtion to the NRA stuff, Heston also participated in civil rights activism. "Soylent is people" was strictly a movie thing and was not part of the novel. If I remember, the death of the oceans was the big secret in the book.
