Solenoid for injector fuel pump is not clicking with original harness if they ran straight power to the injector sending unit relay it would have cut on
What's the purple grease?
It's Permatex brake grease but I no longer use it for anything other than between brake pads and the caliper bracket. It turns into a glue like substance after a few months. I had to clean out a ratchet i lubed with it as it no longer would switch gears, and the slide on the quill of an antique drill press I rebuilt. I've not messed with this truck in over a year so I'm not sure how well the windows work, but I'd imagine I'll be cleaning it out of the slide. Next time I'll use a quality grease that is not specific to brakes.
Ha ha ha. So many comments from clueless people. I am new to the 7.3 idi non-turbo and finally know there is a fuel issue on mine. When I installed a new filter, I filled it with diesel to the brim. The engine started right away and purred. Later it started immediately with the new Motorcraft 10.5 volt glow plugs. ( removed the useless 5 volt Autolites) HOWEVER the next day, the engine took a lot of cranking on starting fluid before it ran. When I had removed the old filter, it was only 1/2 full? I am thinking somehow the fuel is siphoning out while sitting? On YOUR engine if the injector pump is not delivering fuel to the injectors, perhaps the pump vanes are stuck? Take the pump off and take it apart.
What kind of grease do you use?
That is permatex 24125 grease for brake parts and I do not recommend useing it for anything other than it's intended purpose. I use it on a couple items and after 6-8 months it turns into a very sticky brown goo that does not allow things to move freely. I'd use a general purpose grease in the future.
Did yu guys ever found the problem?
Not yet, travel a lot for work, have not touched it lately. Will get back on it some day.
If you guys don’t know what you doing. Or you are not mechanics. Better do what you do I don’t know ..go hunting or what ever you like to do but not Disel mechanic
Before yall waste time watching this video they didn’t accomplish anything they don’t know what they are doing or what they are trying to fix
I really can't argue with any of that! :) Thanks for watching!
That bolt with the socket was a good idea. Learned me something new today❤
I just got an endura pin kit for my front doors on my obs crew cab. Im gonna remove the hinges one at a time and try to get it done this way drilling out the bushing and using a c clamp like a ball joint press to get the new ones in there.
😂 what are you doing?
Waiting for my shop to get built so I can work on all my projects! More to come!
Thanks for the Video!
Nice little truck
YOU GET THIS GOING? One thing comes to mind... injectors need pressure ton"pop" open. How are y'all building pressure with those injector lines open? Having them full of diesel doesn't do anything for you unless it's under enough pressure to pop the injectors.
We did not but we have worked on it more. Will post a video when we get it going. Having a shop built this fall and will post more videos after I have a place to work.
Can you make a video on how you took the door off
It's tricky. The bolts that connect the hinges to the door are almost impossible to get off with the fender on. Best bet is removing the hinges from the door jamb on the cab but be warned, the metal plates the bolts thread into can fall down into the kick panel and are nearly impossible to get out. I have some video I've not posted yet of my Son and I putting the doors on this truck, and taking video kinda fell apart as we were having such a time getting the door aligned. If you just need to do bushings leave the door on, you will be glad you did!
My hinges are so bad there are no old bushings to replace .
Idm
Thanks for posting this ! Your the only person I can find on TH-cam removing a flatbed . This lets me know it can be done quick with the right equipment now i need to tackle how to take a double frame off along with the flatbed so I can sand blast the frame accordingly.
It varies how they are attached, sometimes welded, sometimes bolted. It all depends on who installed them. Thanks!
So I was having this same issue. I couldn't figure it out. Two fresh big batteries and I sprayed it with starting fluid (I know it's not recommended but I only spent $600 and figured worse case it didn't run anyway) and it finally started after a lot of turning over.
Clever .. Good Vid!!
Been trying to figure out why the new fuel shutoff solenoid int working. It passes the check when its off the cover, but something doesnt work when its all together
didnt c u check if check valve was clogged at on top shut off silinoid.just thowing it out there hope it helps.im going threw same ordeal it sucks
Gotta remember the bolt press
Did you ever get the 1994 running?
Not yet, been super busy with work this year. Thanks!
Use a vacuum pump and a tire filler to vacuum the diesel up to the filter works every time
Thank you!
For what it’s worth… air intrusion… fix that( usually the fuel heater) then crack injector lines one at a time until you get fuel at injector( can take a while)… then it will fire. Drill tap plug the fuel heater is the fix.
Exelente video la forma en que colocas los bujes sin maltratarlos gracias
gracius por ver
You ever get that 7.3 idi going?
I have not touched it since my son and I made that video, have been swamped with work this spring/summer. I'll get back on it and do a followup video. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I adopted 1 it sat up for 4 or 5 years . The problem I came across with mine is rain water some how filled the intake complete up didn't realize it till after I put 2 new batteries in it and turned it over 😳 it clunt? I got all the water out and at a loss bout it 4 now. wood love 2 see yall get yours running Caz mines dewin what yours is dew I appreciate the video
That's a bummer, thanks for watching!
I would have to try to pull start that one for a bit, if it's a standard, just to hear/see/ know that the engine will still turn over...before the rings rust to the cylinder walls...hopefully.😮
Having the same issue I narrowed it down to the IP. Not enough pressure to pop the injectors
If you do not get fuel coming out and too the injector you will never get it to run...You have to have fuel going to injectors... Test, remove all injectors nuts so they will leak... Again remove start solenoid and manually slide the direction of coil pulling or pushing... You should get fuel from filter to pump and then from the pump to the injector... Just because coil pulled in does not mean it open the fuel port... Your are going to lose fuel, but it will not start because you have the injector disconnected... Two man job,
Best way I found is to pull off the trailer with the bucket rigged fairly tight, that way you can slow the truck down with the tractor. Looks like the twin brother at my house, also won't start. Good luck!
Good idea, I'll try that next time! Thanks for watching!
great video and thorough explanation.
Thanks for watching!
Cool 😎
have the same issue on my f350 7.3 idi.. been sitting for 4 years now .. and now i need a truck.
Use a vacuum pump to pull feul upto the filter till its plumb full using a tire air chuck and hand vacuum pump
I am currently having the same problem just replace the injection pump truck fired right up as soon as I get under acceleration dies no start after and no fuel coming out of injection pump at injectors
I went thru 3 mechanical pumps before I switched over to electric lift pumps.
Most likely you bought a aftermarket name brand or cheap one. I did the same thing nothing but junk! I bought a Motorcraft one and running 3 years strong! The electric pump is nice but the mechanical pumps are more dependable
@@jackdaicole7595 I'll never go back to a mechanical pump. I have an extra electric pump in the glove box. Haven't had to use it.
@@2ndspingarage well to each thier own I guess lol. The mechanical vs electronic both have thier pros and cons
@@jackdaicole7595 priming the fuel is a breeze.
@@2ndspingarage have you had any issues with priming with mechanical pump??? I would fill the fuel filter up and hold the vavle open and tap over the starter from I side the engine bay.
I own a 7.3 idi, love it
I'm gathering parts and waiting for the weather to warm up a bit, then I'll get back on this. Looking forward to getting it going! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Ether will tell u real quick what the engine will or won't do
What tranny is in this rig?
She has the ZF 5 speed. Thanks for watching!
@@robdoescarstuff4392 I must admit I'd have a ZF 5 or 6 instead of a NV3500 in my Chevrolet's
I have got a stubborn one to take fuel by running it on starting fluid... its not going to hurt that engine for doing so... you could literally run cans of starting fluid through those old IDI engines and they love it. Keep it running a bit on starting fluid and just see if your diesel does finally make it to the injectors.. I do have over forty years on these old fords
We ran more starting fluid through it off camera and it would fire a bit. I didn't want to use too much though as I'm new to diesels. I'm confident it has compression so I'm gathering some parts and will post another video soon hopefully. Thanks for the tip and thanks for watching!
Rob - Great video, thanks for posting. thoughts on using the skid plates to protect the cat converters from theft? Just had mine recently stolen, and I’m considering installing these on my 200 series as dual purpose (overlanding and deterring from theft). Let me know what you think…
I do think they offer a level of protection, and serve as a theft deterrent. It depends on how motivated the thief is, but I think it may make the thief look for an easier target. BudBuilt does also offer a product specifically to protect cats from theft. There is a bit of talk about it on the Ih8mud forum in the 200 series section. Hope this helped. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!
Would like to see part 3!
Will be doing more videos on this truck! Keep watching and you will see it run and drive! Again Thanks for watching!
It does look n sound like a healthy engine just needs glow plugs
Needs glow plugs to heat the fuel in order for it to fire. Also gotta give it time to heat so you should have a wait to start light come on in the cab. When it goes out you then can crank it.
Previous Owner had been troubleshooting no fuel at the injector. Told me he thought it was the lift pump, so we went down that route but turns out my lift pump was fine. Looks like the injector pump is not pumping fuel out any of the lines to the injectors. Getting parts now, and will continue when the weather gets a bit nicer. Thanks for watching!
@@robdoescarstuff4392 if your not getting fuel to the injectors make sure your fuel shut of solenoid is working before replacing the injection pump
Fuel solenoid appears to be working. I have another pump that came off A running truck I'm going to swap out and will video but work has been crazy lately. Thanks for watching.
When you guys changed the filter you should of filled the filter up with fresh diesel to pre prime it.
I was afraid to get dirt on the wrong side of the filter. Thanks for Watching!

Take the high pressure pump off and clean and blow it out good, then hook the pump ,then turn the pump somehow [ drill or 110 motor with an old belt] and pump fuel in the pump with a hose and a upside-down bottle to feed it. As it turns you should see fuel coming from the back of the pump ware the injector line hook to it. If not the pump is not working. Get the high pressure pump to work and get fuel to the injector it should run. If I remember correctly the injector work off of oil pressure to open the injectors.
Thanks for the tip, I was trying to figure out how to test the pump, spinning with a drill is a good idea. One of the injector lines is cross threaded at the injector from the PO working on it. I picked up a used pump and lines this past weekend off a truck that ran but was overheating. Hopefully I can save the injector. I'll test it like you said and install it. That will probably be my next video so hopefully I can get to that in the next couple weeks. The weather is bad right now. Hoping I don't need injectors too. Thanks for watching!
It has mechanical injectors, heuis we’re introduced in 1994 the oil pump does not create pressure. It creates a volume of oil for the injectors to use. The injection pressure regulator (controlled by the PCM) is responsible for creating injection pressures in a range of 450 to 3,000 psi on the Heui injectors, the 7.3 power stroke is computer controlled and the 7.3 idi is mechanically controlled the 7.3 powerstroke is also direct injection and 7.3 is idi (indirect injection) witch means it will go into a pre chamber then into the combustion chamber
That was a vacuum pump behind the seat. Powers brake booster ext. Diesels dont make vacuum.
Thanks you and Thanks for watching!
that would be a cool truck to fix up. the idi is a simple diesel engine and are very easy to work on yourself. i would just try and find a complete steering column
Thanks for watching! I'll check out the Pick N Pull for a new column. Hopefully we can get it running and there are no major issues.
