Bill Smith will be missed, He was a great actor. And goes to John Saxon & Anthony James. The legendary bad guys of Hollywood. They should be inducted in the Hollywood Walk of Fame, they deserve it.
Bill Smith did a great role playing Anthony Falconetti, he should have won an Emmy Award for best acting role, for a villain of this classic mini series, When I watch on ABC. I was twelve years old back in1977. I watched book 1, ( 1976) I watched on Coplin St. living in a four family flat apartment, in Detroit, MI.
I bought this series on DVD brand new for $2.00 from the neighborhood Goodwill. Never heard of it. It has Nolte and Gregg Henry so I nabbed it. Asked my mother about it and she said it was one of the best series ever. That she had to be home every Friday night to watch it back in the 70s when it aired. Cool find I guess.
The first series was from the book by Irwin Shaw. Book 2 wasn’t written by him. He disliked this series and totally disregarded it when he wrote Beggarman Thief! That was also done as a mini series and it ignores this series.
I had just started high school when this aired. I initially intended to watch because before it aired it advertised an actor named Nick nolte ( The Deep). I thought he was a " fox". Little djd i know that when i observed Noltes bad boy character i was repulsed ( he was bonking the help like Schwarzenegger) I found myself having a crush on Rudy Jordache then his nephew Wesley Jordache ( Gregg henry not willie aames who was closer to my age.) At the Redondo beach pier i found a poster of peter Strauss and gregg Henry and hung it on my bedroom wall for over 10 years seeing it every morning when I woke up. Decades later i watched a tv show starring peter Strauss. It only aired for a few episodes but what was SO WONDERFUL was the vuest star Gregg Henry. Although peter Strauss is an excellent actor i could see the joy he had when Gregg Henry first appeared on a scene with him. When i saw Peter Strauss tell entertainment tonight that he works in show business just to be able to afford buying fruit trees ( oranges). It turned me on even more. Despite working on several tv shows including chat shows and as a banquet server at the awards shows and seeing almost every celebrity in Hollywood and even in Europe there are 3 people ive never seen/ meet that ive wanted to: Sophia Loren, Barbara Eden and Peter Strauss.
I remember watching this movie as a teen. It is what made me a Lee Remick fan. I always wondered about it and here it is on TH-cam. Thank you for posting it! It is as good as I remember it.
what a treat! i'd forgotten how great this was thank you :)
Una de las mejores serie de los 70 y 80..dónde todavía existía una lucha por la superación personal y desde luego la economía... excelente
Great show. Unfortunately reality today is far worse than the fiction....
