Super Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (SNES) : Jedi / Hoth Pt 2 (08)

Always hated those stupid spiky shells.
@LadyRandomVT As a rule...I hate unkillable mobs like that
is it the diamond yoyo from Ernest Goes to Africa ?
@SkandranonOwens lmfao...I just saw a video I have yet to watch about Ernest Goes to Africa. I can only imagine how amazing it probably is lol
So angels can't go nude outside to long? What a shame
"Because I hate myself... " ow boy, we are in for some real punishment 😀Just skip the Jedi mode for SRoTJ
What if I want to kiss you?....... Hahaha
How did Kara get here? Probably like darktide there is an elevator out at the end of the level.
Love your format, with plenty of lore before the main event. Awesome
Thanks!!! It's hard to tell whether or not people enjoy it so it's nice to hear it.
The cloud effect when flying the x-wing on Bespin is really cool for that period. Just skip Jedi mode. It is not worth your sanity ;-)
@@ericvenneker too late lol 😆
@DaffyRoth good to know that you are recording in advance! No backseat driving then 🤣
30:50 This part used to freeze every time with my bother and I's first cartridge of this game, so we had to replace it. The only time I had to replace a game. It didn't make sense back then and it still doesn't make sense to me now. You'd think the cartridge would either work or not.
I had a similar problem with Jurassic Park for the SNES. There is a part in the boat that if you enter the door wrong it will lock the game up. But ya...that is odd. The only thing that i can think of is that the cart was damaged in some way.
Yay! ty!
@LadyRandomVT anything for you mi lady
try dodging you flunk
I could try that sure...but brute force is so much more fun.
A nice and simple game inbetween the starwars shenanigans ;-)
Ya that was kinda the thought. I should start the NES and GB Empire games but...I dunno...lol
@@DaffyRoth You can take a break inbetween the SW games. Too much of a good thing and all that ;-)
that was one giant shitty level!
Dude...it was straight annoying. I beat the boss two times and died as it was going down too...due to shrapnel or whatever and the constant stream of bounty hunters and where they place them...arrrrrgh.
@@DaffyRoth I feel your pain. Just remember: fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering
The mu myth is overshadowed by it's cousin in the Atlantic for sure.
Lol so true. Although aren't they technically supposed to be the same thing.
@ I know it's not the exact same but it fits the lost ancient civilizations chat room that Atlantis hogs
I've never actually seen this one. I only played the second. Thanks for playing it for me~
Ya my absolute pleasure.
Hahaha hey listen! Was actually helpful. Take a lesson Navi
Loooooooool
I love the animation when you jump to the other side. It looks weird but I love that they did that rather than just a lower level of floating islands
YES! The animation is awesome. Wait till you see Star Ocean.
Short and sweet!
Aye. Although was kinda disappointed in the length tbh. Was expecting more. Perhaps that is because I was having fun.
I love this version of the game. Extended stages and a much more dynamic and interesting final boss.
Ya, I was pleasantly surprised. Although I have to be honest...I kinda feel that I am missing something when they threw that demon in there lol...I was like wut?? O.o
@@DaffyRoth That demon thing is present in some other Data East games as well - such as the unreleased Sega CD game, "PANIC!". It's sort of an unofficial company mascot.
I love that boss music.
Ya the music of games in this era is just plain awesome.
This seems to be the same vid as th-cam.com/video/668tgSGceWo/w-d-xo.html . I am missing a part with the snowspeeders and the AT-AT's. Just not sure whether it should be this vid or the previous one.
Yep....there was some copyright issues and I messed up the videos...this is the correct video for this one though. Ill fix the other.
Fixed. I apparently edited the wrong video too...so that one can't be viewed in RUS. Meh...Ill maybe fix that in the future but for now..it is what it is. Thanks for letting me know. :)
This looks like a real fun and relaxing platformer. Never had the opportunity to play this game. I will put it on my list!
Ya. I didn't know what to expect going into it tbh, but like I stated was pleasantly surprised.
I enjoyed your play-through. I have seen several RE games in the past (as said earlier, not really my cup of tea) and I think I could enjoy this game myself.
Good music and party dynamic can make a difference despite timing hits being all in 28:20 frustration sometimes
YES. I noticed that sometimes I could fire twice, once for each pass of the bar, but sometimes only once. Also, the gas launcher makes all the difference lol.
Ya man. I was taken aback by how decent this game was.
Great vid, congratulations you are a real pro. An impresive game for a better time. Before fakedisney, before fake star wars...
I dunno about being a pro lol. I just actually had fun with this one and it felt way less cheese than the other versions.
If you don't get some Force powers on Dagobah before the final battle with Darth Vader, you're kinda screwed, especially when he continuously uses Force throw against you with 100s of pieces of garbage. If you attack right after sliding, against Vader at least, you become invulnerable and can continue to hold down the saber attack button to deal a lot of damage.
I had no idea what you were talking about until I got there lol. I did manage to get all the force powers though, but I found my own way to cheese Vader lol. That garbage toss is well...garbage though.
@@DaffyRoth I kind of thought there was a password to go to the final duel with Vader with all of the Force powers, but the passwords online only seem to take you there with no Force powers. If you really wanted to, you could use cheats to get the Force. Yeah, he throws more garbage around than a mannerless child.
The Super Star Wars series based on the golden firs trilogy and best movies for me also had the most original and best games on the SNES. I never forgot Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi on the SNES unlike many spinoff story games which seem to be more popular with developers these days on the Star Wars franchise games.
Yes. Agree 100%. The animation and music are fantastic. I don't mind some of the spin off stuff, but some of it does seem to just be meh. Honestly I think one of my favorite SW games has to be Republic Commando.
37:44 was always easier to double-jump lightsaber spin attack back and forth across his face, moving out the way of his hands.
ya...and there are some areas where i could have used solos roll...but i forget about it and kinda hard to pull off with the analog stick for some reason.
I originally asked for Starwars Empire Strikes Back for one of my birthdays, but I instead got the first Starwars: A New Hope rather instead. Still fun but not as fun as this one that's for sure.
The super star wars series have great graphics, but the difficulty is artificially inflated by the relentless enemy respawn and the loss of progress after death. It is as if lucasarts wanted a space shooter like r-type or axalay, but with platforming 😀
you make it sound like those games are hard
Dude...wait till you see Cloud City...omggggfg
I wouldn't say they are hars perse...but annoying...very very annoying...
@@jimmyju76 like daffyroth said, not necessarily hard but really annoying. That is what I meant with inflated difficulty. Still fun games
ya know...the more i think about it...Contra is more fitting...
That sucks man. I am enjoyin this playthrough. Resident Evil has never been my type of gamegenre, but this game appeals to me somehow!
Ya at least I had a save state a few saves before that. THB I didn't realize it would corrupt the file that saves the "on board" saves. Learn something new everyday. I would have been pissed if this happened if I were actually playing the game back in the day though , and ya I was completely surprised myself in how much fun this game actually was. It's def unique and I would have liked to have seen other games follow that line...even in the RE series. The only thing that was lacking imho, was the lack of files throughout the game detailing what was going on. But I still think they nailed the feel and atmosphere of RE pretty well.
In my mind you have completed this game for 200%!
Dude I was wracking my brain as to what was missed in both runs...nothing...it has to be a bug...it HAS too!! But yes...damn right I did lol.
🎉🥳🎉🥳
Thanks Maruu!!!!
You mad lad! 😂
Lol...I couldn't help myself. I actually had a lot of fun with this version.
This looks so much better than the nes, I guess sega really does do what ninten don't 😂 Wish I'd had this as a kid
I totally agree!
LOL!!! At least in the graphics department...but then the SNES came around...
This looks awesome. I totally missed this as a kid.
Me too. I mean tbh I missed pretty much all of the Master System...Nintendo was more of my jam, but I always associated the Master System with Atari for some reason...as in that generation.
Yea the graphic are better. The Master system had better color management.
Ya I am starting to see that. I'm looking forward to seeing other games in the Master System's library.
The graphics are fantastic, but the controls appear to be extremely slippery
Yes. It could also just be the emulation too...but eh...you get used to it.
@@ericvenneker slippery? Hell, that would cover at least 1/3 of the game controls back then.
@@willpower8061 lmfao ain't the truth
The graphics are amazing. And I was pleasantly surprised by that first level on the tantive iv with leia.
Dude me too!!! I also didn't realize how vertical that ship is ;p
I'm impressed that the game gear could produce such good visuals.
@chickenw1re Me too. Wait till you see the Master System version. Blew me away.
Almost forgot this existed
Its really not a bad game at all...if anything I think had they expanded on the formula, there could be a solid side series. Also...I kinda like the ending to this...something they could have run with...
wahoooo its game time!
awwww you are the best. i need to dedicate some time to watch your Life is Strange playthrough...i can only imagine the hilarity...

@@DaffyRoth aww tysm! youre the one who essentially taught me how to do this indirectly so tyvm!!!
Have you contributed to the kickstarter with terranigma music devs?
i have not. didnt even know there was one tbh.
The graphics are beautifull, but the game does seem to drag on a bit to long. I agree with you that Illussion of Gaia/Time is the best game of the trilogy. That said, I still want to play this game when I have time. Thank you for your playthrough!
Absolutely no problem my friend. i appreciate you watching all this...i know its not the best but still. any games you want to see in particular??
Nothing comes to mind right now. And you need to play the games that you like.
remember I had the timings down so well that I could run and jump through most of the level without having to stop and kill anything. (took a LOT of dying, haha! But hey, I was a kid and had the time to get it right).. But I never beat the game... sadly I never figured out how to complete the trench run at the end.
Dude ya. having played through all the different versions, the game heavly relied on the replayability and memorization. hence all the blind jumps. still...personally i think the gb version is the worst lol
Still better than sw:Outlaws;)
lmfaooooooooooo
@8:28 I've done a little platformer development in my spare time, and I'm guessing what happened here was a collision-detection error that caused Leia's death. I'll explain in detail, and live up to my screen name :P The whole reason most games kill the player character when the player character gets crushed between two moving platforms is because it's the easiest way to get the game to a consistent state: if the player character gets crushed, the devs have a few choices: 1) Allow the playable character to be pushed into one of the walls or the floor or the ceiling, which isn't a legal game-state 2) Code the platforms to react and stop when they're crushing the player (this is costlier and rare, but it's not unheard of---the Castle Crush level from Donkey Kong Country 2 is an example) 3) Use the death-system to reset the player character's location The third option is the cheapest and keeps the game consistent---and if a collision-detection glitch at the corner of a platform allowed Leia to enter the floor triggered the death-system, that'd explain how she died so suddenly. Technically there's a fourth option: design the levels so that crushing never happens. The first Donkey Kong Country game is a prime example of that; there were some moving platforms, but their movement patterns never brought them to terrain that could crush DK.
lol dude...i love it. thank you so much for the insight and i welocome your long posts!!! hope to see more and i do plan to play through the DK games soon.
I know this was difficult, But in the end you did beat the game. Thank you for finishing it!
lol yesssssss. my sanity though is in tatters lol
Haven't played this game for years such a classic
Ya i played it when it first came out. it didnt hold up as well as i remembered, and i feel that a lot could have been improved upon had there been another game. im going to be playing The Thing soon and that game reminds me a lot of this one. thanks for stopping by
@@DaffyRoth I remember enjoying most of it, don't know what i would think of it if i played it again
Ya...same. I remembered it was fun when I played it back in the day, I mean I had fun playing it again but was disappointed in how short it was. It was definitely cashing in on the RE4 craze at the time...but RE4 is just an overall better game. Still...I love games that take place at sea and I feel that is a very underused location for horror games in particular.
@@DaffyRoth That can be a problem when a game is successful other companies jump on the bandwagon
