SongStalking - Ed Hale Performs “Autumn Reflection” on a 1995 Taylor 710 Dreadnought
SongStalking - “Autumn Reflection”
This birthday 2024 I can honestly, wholeheartedly say was EPIC. From early morning till late at night. I had been working on this instrumental piece of music for a few days. It’s considerably more complicated musically than almost anything else I’ve ever written; and thus challenging to actually play. But I felt like the good vibes flowing in the house all day had created the perfect environment to attempt a performance. In the end it took more like 7-8 consecutive performances just to get it to this level. But I was very glad to have pulled it off on this special day with all the love that was flowing our way… It was a powerful way to commemorate both the meaningful background story that led to its creation, AND the extra special nature of this day in this year. THANK YOU to ALL of YOU for your kind hearts, words and contributions. We love you ❤️.
A small group of us were discussing the myriad issues related to #israel & #gaza, #protests #freedom & #activism A longtime friend @arlanfeiles wrote “I could say more, but it could jeopardize our friendship. Follow your heart.” That single statement moved me so much that it’s hard to put it into words. What it did was get me reflecting a lot more, taking sides and making declarative statements less. And it inspired this piece of music, which I spent most of the last 3 days working on. The performance is still a bit shaky - the composition features chords I’ve never played before as a player. But the work itself is finished. #taylorguitars Played on a 1995 #taylor710 dreadnought. @ernieball #earthwoundstrings #phosphorbronzeguitarstrings #acousticinstrumental #acousticguitar #acousticmusic #Taylordreadnought #tayloracoustic

I have a '68 Framus Texan 5/196 and I put DR Puretone Phosphor Bronze mediums on it, tuned it to standard tuning, and it rings like a bell! I own a few Martins and Gibson's, and although my Framus doesn't sound like them, to your point, it sounds unlike any other acoustic I've ever owned and I wouldn't trade it for the world! Thank you for your video; it's what influenced me to buy my Framus!

I have Framus texan I have no idea which model exactly because most probably it's a prototype. My father bought it for me for around 60$ as a college graduation gift from his bandmate seven or eight years ago. Inside the soundhole there is no serial number no signature no model number only the letter "P". It also lacks the string bar on the head and some other features I found on other texans. I've written to Framus Museum in Germany and they are not 100% sure but willing to agree that it might be one of the prototypes. Amazing guitar, totally unique sound but now it waits until I have the money to do some restoration work. Due to rough storing conditions string height became super high and at the same time top has sunk.

Nice playing Ed. Man that guitar still has that Martin sound. I hate to say it but Martin just knows how to do it right. I don't call this an entry level guitar. Some do. But that shouldn't be said just because a guitar is affordable. I just bought 2 of these to gig with. USA made black label and I bought a Mexican made black label. Both solid top spruce. Apparently there are some that are all laminate or they are listed wrong on some sites. I'm a little confused about that. Could be the black labels are solid top and the tan are not, not sure. I'm not saying these are the best on the planet. They are NOT HD-28 quality of sound. But I've played for a living my whole life and can tell you as a gig guitar you would NOT be at any disadvantage using one of these and they sound really good. Mine were the non pre versions, I added a K & K mini' pickup ran to a Presonus channel strip with the upgraded tube where I can compress, EQ and shape the sound going out as to not be totally at the mercy of a sound guy LOL.,using a volume pedal on the floor, and have been gigging with it. The Taylor I'd been using I paid $2500 for and its an amazing guitar. Switching to the Martin I fair easily as well. It's a wonderful instrument.

I think the equivalent of this now is DX2E, specwise. Although the saddle and fretboard is not micarta or richlite, it is katalox I think. And it doesn't have a stratabond neck which was unpopular. But I tell you my guitar stays in tune forever still after 20 years no issues. when I bought my DX1 I went to about 7 shops all over NYC till I found one that was in good condition and set up nice and I had to compliment the luthier. As soon as I picked it up I knew it was coming home with me instantly.

Got my dx1 made in usa with spruce top probably very early 2000's. I wanna say 2004? Play it daily still, top got alot darker and grainy probably from some dry seasons probably. But its never had any problems and still has great intonation. never needed any work done to it I just keep it in a hard case when not playing. I've always jsut cleaned the fret board and neck with the martin polish. Think maybe I will invest in the dr ducks and try to spruce the whole guitar up. the highs even resonate more now then when I first got it to to compliment the boomy bass which really sold me on this thing for my finger picking lol. sweet sound.

He played all of the best ones including a Gibson Dove , The top of the line Taylor , Takanime , Breedlove . We both agreed the DX-1 floor model played and sounded the best . What a great story! There’s something about a guitar that sounds amazing that doesn’t cost thousands of dollars. They’re even more desirable. I actually called Martin recently to talk about these old DX1s and why they sounded so damn good. He would not admit that they flat out sounded “better” than the higher priced models. And I admit that the D18 I have does sound “perfect” - it glistens, but it doesn’t have anything super unique or special about its sound. Just darn good sounding. Whereas the DX1 actually has something very unique and special about its sound. Basically the Martin guy finally admitted to me that yes he does receive a ton of calls about this, but no they have no way of explaining why it’s happening. Interesting.

Since 2011 I have been making a living busking and gigging pretty much playing it 2 to 3 hours every day and it has proven to be the perfect workhorse. This really cool and poetic man is absolutely right in everything he says....he didn't mention the quality of the neck, my guitar almost plays by itself.... I started to play guitar in 1959 and recently I made the list of all the guitars and other instruments that I had since the beginning and even counted those that belonged to my friends or band companions .... today I only have one guitar and it's a DX-1-R .... and I would not trade it for a-ny-thing....!

which neck do you hae on yours? The original usa dx1 had a stratabond neck which they no longer use. Then they also moved on to richlite instead of micarta on the dx and road series for fret and saddle. But I actually think the DX2E, which is the equivalent of the original DX1, has a special katalox fretboard and saddle. which is very interesting lol.

I recently bought one of these and am really loving it. Initially, it wasn't that great, tone was good but not great and there was a little fret buzz from the 12th to 14th frets. A few days playing changed everything! All trace of the fret buzz disappeared and the tone really began to develop. I suspect that the early issues may have been a result of the guitar sitting in a warehouse for however long with no tension in the strings🤔 It's now the tone cannon that I expected and getting better! My second Guild, but my first acoustic model. I bought a 1979 S-300 solid body, new and at a heavily discounted price in the mid 1980's. That remains the best guitar that I have ever played and I really need to play it more, but I have mainly been concentrating on acoustic in recent years. After all these years, the new Guild only cost £11 more than I paid for the old one😎

Cool. I was a few days ago in Guitar center to visit the guitar tech, and then went to the acoustic room and played the guild f240 and knew immediately I wanted one... Next day i got one on Reverb at a superb low price. Should be arriving soon. And you are correct about the demo's on you tube regarding the f240 guitar...they all sound horrible. However your recording and playing of the guild f240 sound 100 percent better...stellar...and you made the guitar sound like the unique and uncomparable classic that it is...
