Atwood/Dometic Furnace AFMD35121 sail switch problem.
มุมมอง 12K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Here's a video that shows the sail switch from my Atwood AFMD 35121 furnace in my 2018 Keystone Cougar trailer. The older switches are causing a problem with the furnace not running. The new switches have a new design for the mounting bracket that solves the problem.

Any idea to what issue would cause this unit to blow flames out the side of the camper through the exhaust port? I know it could be se real things trying to pinpoint it down. Thanks
Thanks for the overview! I have one of these with a cracked flush ball (flapper), and it seems like there are no replacement flush ball kits available for this model toilet...
The rubber seal where a hose connects isn't available, from all the research I've done. It requires the entire $20 assembly to be replaced instead of a one dollar o-ring. I get that the safety features aren't serviceable, but the most external rubber seal should be easily replaced. Excellent video, so thank you.
Hey Steve. Thanks for the vid. My problem is the flap won't open with the foot pedal. The pedal just moves up and down with spring action but, the flap won't open. After I remove the 'cap' of the pedal the stamp says "DANGER do not remove". What can I do? Thanks, Richard
How do you remove the foot pedal
What size is the shut off valve?
It's 1/2"
Mine leaks out the middle can't figure it out 🤦🏻
Thx, great video glad I found it.
Steve, could you please give me the part number for the “floor gasket” (what would be the wax ring on a home toilet)? I’ve tried pausing & replaying your video without success. Thanks for this very informative & useful video!
Thank you so much that was very helpful. I appreciate the video send me your venmo I like to buy you a coffee!!
Thanks for the video. About to pull my furnace out - mice have been getting into the underbelly and up thru the ducting into the interior of our 2017 Whitehawk. Your video gives me the confidence that I won't be screwing something up doing it. Sure doesn't look like a very good seal where the exhaust outlet fits into the furnace.
April 2023. I’m a female RVer and DIYer. This video was my Godsend!!! I’ve been having furnace issues for the past 2+ years. Today I took my time, watched your video 3 or 4 times and told myself “I can do this!” I cut back the plastic housing and gave it a go!! The furnace works and your video saved me a repair guy AND a new motherboard!! I was ready to give up!! Thanks for your VERY helpful video!😊
were can I buy the rebuild kit at thank you.
Excellent information!! I am extremely grateful for you and your knowledge. Thank you for sharing this video, im now a subscriber you sir are an excellent teacher
Thanks for the walk through of all the parts. I'm having a problem with the toilet not stopping after flushing. Got up to use the toilet at night and when my wife woke up a couple hrs later she discovered water all over the floor in the bathroom. It had soaked the bedroom carpet, run down into the storage compartment and into the underbelly soaking all the insulation. We took everything out of the storage compartment to dry out, and I dropped the cover on the bottom of the 5th wheel to get all the water out. I replaced all the insulation with new/dry R-13 insulation and buttoned the bottom back up. It was 19 degrees out when I finished and everything I'd taken out of the storage area, if it hadn't dried out (it was 37 when I started) was frozen. Over the next 2 days we were able to dry the basement and our carpets out, (lucky the outside temp rose to 41). I was going to purchase a new toilet, but now after seeing your breakdown of how this works, I may only need to purchase a replacement valve.
Sounds like the flush valve was leaking by. It's a pretty common problem and I always carry a spare. They are easy to replace. You should install a shutoff valve on the water line to the toilet so when this happens it's easy to isolate it without having to shutoff the water to the trailer.
@@lawhesl01 Yep, that what I figured. I order a valve, it will be here next Tuesday. The valve is sticking periodically we're keeping an eye on it and transferring our water to dry camping at night so we can hear the pump if it doesn't shut off (we FT in the 5th wheel while our new house is being built). I agree, and will be adding a shutoff valve behind the toilet when I fix the valve. Thanks again for the very through overview of the 310.
Oh my goodness what a disaster
What size is the floor flange? Trying to find out for a plug size???
It's a 3" hole. RecPro RV Toilet Closet Flange | 4x3 | ABS Plastic | Toilet-to-Floor Mount | RV Plumbing Accessories | (Flange Only) a.co/7AadJEJ
@@lawhesl01how does the flange shank connect to the black tank?
Thank you, help me a lot.
Your video answered a lot of questions I have regarding my Dometic 310. Thank you.
Thank you sir, I was trying to figure out why the top (ceramic) part of my 310 was wiggly and the bottom (plastic) part of it was solid. Looks like I have to take the whole thing off to get to those four screws from the bottom and tighten them up. Thing is, it came that way from the dealer so I always just figured that's how they were (first time RV owner here). Well, found out that's not the case so went searching for a break down and this is the best one I found. Thank you again ;)
Will this toilet not have the same issue of urine and crap getting between the walls like the dometic 300 seems to do?
Yes. Happened on mine. Will try to get the 4 bolts and nylon inserts for the ceramic bowl. Can’t find them online… yet. Will call Dometic. I will be pissed (no pun intended) if they won’t supply them to me. Unfortunately, 1/2” too short to install 320 toilet.😢
@@davidcooper3871so you say the 310 has the same potential leak fault?
Where do you pump from on a Keystone Cougar? I have the same camper and can’t find it. Looking to pump antifreeze into my system.
You have to install a winterizing kit on the suction side of the water pump. You should join our Keystone Cougar Owners Group on Facebook. facebook.com/groups/167103534515981/?ref=share_group_link
Great video. The ball doesn't close completely on mine. This video was very helpful as now I know how it works before I go to removing parts to figure out what's up with it.
I accidentally left the water pump switch on when I was hooked up to the house and started using the faucets and shower. I notice that within a few days my fresh water tank filled up. My guess the by-pass on the pump allowed the water to get through the pump and into the fresh water tank.
I have replaced the flush valve twice and don’t know why it continues to not work but for a couple of days does anyone have any suggestions
What's it doing?
Do you where to purchase a Flush Ball for this model? I have looked everywhere on the net and found nothing. I have yet to find an exploded view diagram that even shows the flush ball for the Dometic 310.
You can't get one that I know of, they don't sell it.
Great video! Have you considered becoming an affiliate with domestic or any other brand you use in your videos? Make some money and link out!
Great video!!!
We were having problems with our furnace. I saw your video and it worked for us!! Thank you so much for figuring this out!!

Thanks for the video. Good stuff. The OPD is important to proper tank function
Good catch!! Easy fix!,, thank you brother!
It didn’t work as easy for us however using auto trim / panel remover plus these gloves and it was easy. Thank you!
I took out a thirty seven year old toilet from my rv. Replaced it! Hit an impasse. My old toilet was an upper flush and the domestic is foot . The old hose doesn't make its way to the lower connector. It is too long and won't bend. In addition, there was a oring perhaps in the old water supply hose that fell in the toilet. Help! On my own here
Great video. Could see that the ball pivot is not the same on both sides. It was easier to install the seal with the ball closed, Didn't have to feel for that flange all the way around.
Great video, I have a Dometic toilet that has started to not hold water, now I know how to replace the flush valve seal! Time to put on the gloves and hold my breath....haha! Thanks!
I replaced my little black rubber ring, and it still doesn’t hold water, so maybe I need to replace that little white flapper ball, or maybe put silicone grease on the rubber washer.
Thanks for the video. Question? I have a water leak coming from the foot pedal, where the fits into the toilet. I pulled the flush valve out without disconnecting water and didn’t see a leak. Any thoughts where it might be coming from? Thanks
I have the same problem
@@dieselwiezil mine turned out to be the flush valve. It was leaking out the end.
Very informative video. Thanks for sharing!
Great walk thru. Thanks.
I have to thank you. My furnace was not working for this year. I shaved down the part of the sail switch and it kicked on. Ty so much. 🙏🤝
I started having problems with my Jayco. I took out the furnace and it fired. Put it back in and it ran fine for a couple days, then stopped again. I have a sail switch and board in transit, but I did take that edge off the bracket today and it fired up, We'll see if it holds, but the new style bracket looks identical to the modified old style. Thank you for the video.
Yes how do you take off flush pedal?
That’s my question! Can’t find the answer anywhere…
model 310, can't replace foot pedal.i'm looking for a video how to replace ball assemble
It looks like you pop that cover off side.
Appreciate the walk around the whole toilet. Most people just show sections and limited repairs.
Thanks for the tour. How to you find out about service bulletins on the furnace and other appliances?
Excellent lesson on the importance of GFCI in electrical safety.
Never thought about the cross connection at the showers. Our little shutoff at the head always drips, so we never leaver the valves on when not using it. This must explain the shot of cold water when re-opening that shut off switch. thanks
