The Luxor Temple is one of the most impressive and iconic ancient monuments in Egypt. It is located in Luxor on the east bank of the Nile River. It was primarily built by Pharoah Amenhotep III and Ramses II, but many other rulers, including Tutankhamun and Alexander the Great, left their mark on this site.
As you can see in this video, our kids were exhausted, cranky, and thirsty, struggling with the intense midday heat at the temple. They repeatedly asked to be picked up, indicating they were too tired to walk on their own. The strong sun and the lack of shade made it tough for them to enjoy the experience, highlighting the difficulty of visiting such sites during peak heat, especially with young children.
TIPS:
To avoid the intense heat of the desert sun( as Luxor is located in the Sahara Desert) Plan your visit early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Both
temples typically open around 6:00 or 6:30 AM, making the morning the perfect time to explore before the sun gets too strong. During the noon hours, the sun can be blazing and the large open areas offer little shade making it very tough to walk around, particularly with kids.
Bring plenty of water, sun hats, and sunscreen is a must, but timing your visit right will make a big difference.
