This video is about repairing a Vortex VTX600 inline fan that runs 24/7 at our farm to keep the two layers of plastic inflated on one of our greenhouses. The fan uses an external rotor AC induction motor with permanent split capacitor. The motor is from CEBI and it's model 30-97937, a 140W motor. The complete fan assembly is marketed as model VTX600 under the Vortex Powerfans brand by Atmosphere of Terrebonne Quebec.
These fans have proven extremely reliable for this task and I love them but this one unfortunately got wet at one point when snow drifted all the way to the intake, about 10' off the ground, and a combination of this water intake and a certain amount of debris unevenly distributed on the impeller led to premature bearing failure and also damage to the spindle as a result of the out of balance condition and failed bearings.
I was lucky to find replacement bearings locally and also happened to have a suitable drill blank on hand to replace the spindle! Luckiest day of my week for sure! I hadn't ever needed to repair one of these fans before and then two failed in the same week. Lucky for me TH-camr @deandohertygreaser had posted a teardown and repair of a similar EBC fan motor so I could see that it was just a circlip on the back of the motor and nothing overly complex. The bearings for this particular VTX600 fan with the CEBI motor are 608Z (OD 22mm, ID 8mm and 7mm thick).
