That was great to hear the level 3 RCM book and I thought you do a marvelous and musical job of it. I am working on level 2 and have a few of this level 3 collection I am studying too. Thanks this was a big help.
Congratulations for sharing your knowledge. What is the tempo (bpm) used for the piece Dance of the Islands? Thank you!
Thank you heliopereira! The book says this piece should be played in the range of 138-152 bpm (quarter note). In our video it's performed at around 152 bpm. So it's fine to play it slower than this. Best of luck!
Amazing! ❤
Btw do you have the etude of this?
Yes we do Peaches, you can find it here: th-cam.com/video/2yaUIr8qabA/w-d-xo.html
Good information. QQ. Can we use a 61-Key Keyboard (Casio CT-S300) for RCM Level1 Exam?
okay im so confused - can they play pieces FROM The 2015 curriculum? Because her literal exam paperwork says "the most current edition of the syllabus: piano 2015 edition" my student has prepared 2015 pieces but two of those pieces are not in the 6th edition
Hi. Do you know which keyboard we need to use for the Level1 Exam. Is 61-Key Keyboard (Casio CT-S300) permitted?
Hi Jake, after September 1, 2023, the 2022 Piano Syllabus is in effect, so students should only be playing pieces from the 2022 edition books. That being said, your student can still play some pieces from the old syllabus as long as it falls within RCM's substitution policies. If your student is doing the Level 1 exam, RCM allows a Teacher's Choice substitution of one List B Repertoire piece and/or one Etude. These can be from previous RCM editions as long as they are equivalent in difficulty level and genre. So if you decide to substitute a List B Repertoire piece from the 2022 Edition, make sure it's with a List B piece from the 2015 edition. Hope that makes sense! RCM may be forgiving in some cases but they generally do expect students to stick to these policies.
This gave me Scarlatti fever
The James Hook Sonatina is rippin
Good music
Thanks a a lot! My test is in three days and I am sure that I will ace the test now that I have watched the video
It’s very helpful to see and hear the technical requirements demonstrated including the timing for the example.
Thank you so much for sharing this it’s so helpful for me to pick out songs for my students! ❤️👏🏻 well played!
You are very welcome, Rebecca! Glad you found this helpful!
Ty for making this it was really helpful beacuse my teacher told me to pick some music from rcm lvl 2 and you were th e only one so ty!
Question here, when I prepared for the exam I use the repertoire and etudes fr the 2015 version, can i still play those songs for my 2024 exam?or hv to choose the new songs fr the 2022 verson all over again?thanks;)
Hi somethingv, sorry for the late reply! According to RCM, the crossover period for the 2015 and 2022 editions was from Sep 1, 2022 to Aug 31, 2023. During his time, you were allowed to use both edition for your exams. But starting Sep 1, 2023, they want you to be using the 2022 (Sixth) edition. If you insist on using the old edition after this cut-off date, you might need to get special permission from the RCM, but we would advise just using the new edition instead to avoid any potential issues. Also keep in mind that many songs in the new edition are the same as in the 2015 edition, so it's possible you might not necessarily need to re-learn a lot. Hope that helps!
I love your piano!
Thank you, lenalelic!
Well played and most useful… but OUCH! 😮 - your ol’ Joanna 🎹 is in serious need of a tuneup! 🎶 😉
Thats what I thought
May I know what the name of the intro piano song you played beginning of the video? Thank you
Hi icuc1314, the intro piece is a snippet from Mikhail Glinka's "Variations on a Russian Folk Song". Specifically, it's the beginning of the 4th Variation. You can find it in the RCM Level 9 Repertoire book. Hope that helps!
Awsom
May i know what is the name of your intro song?
Hi icuc1314, the intro piece is a snippet from Mikhail Glinka's "Variations on a Russian Folk Song". Specifically, it's the beginning of the 4th Variation. You can find it in the RCM Level 9 Repertoire book. Hope that helps!
You missed a couple repeats and some dynamics, but still great. Thanks for this!
Hi Jeff, thanks for your comment. In these videos, we try to play the pieces as someone would play them for a real RCM exam, and RCM guidelines tell us to ignore repeats unless specified otherwise in the book. But if there was a piece where the repeat was specified and we missed it, please let us know which piece it was. Thanks!
@@dacapoacademyofmusic Oh, I didn't know that! Thanks!
What is the piece is the excerpt from that is heard on the intro slide?
Hi ben, the intro piece is a snippet from Mikhail Glinka's "Variations on a Russian Folk Song". Specifically, it's the beginning of the 4th Variation. You can find it in the RCM Level 9 Repertoire book. Hope that helps!
Thank you so much ! I am an absolute beginner and in the process of searching for a RCM certified teacher . I want to prepare for RCM Level 1 once I start my lessons so these videos are very helpful !
You are very welcome, mysticartist7 - good luck in your teacher search!
Pls play 6th edition 🥺🙏🏻
We will work on getting that uploaded - thank you Jiechong!
Love it ❤😂🎉
This video is so helpful thanku ❤
Glad you found it helpful, Leah!
Thx so much this is very helpful!!
Glad it helped!
how many hours of practice?
Hi SME, the more the better of course, try to aim for 30-60 minutes every day if possible. Or every other day at least!
Thanks for sharing! Very detailed and useful.
Hi Cheryl - we're glad you found it useful. Thank you for your kind words!
Does it have any requirements? In other words, can someone take the level 5 test skipping the previous levels if they think they have the skills necessary?
Hi JEspin2008. Yes, you can do the Level 5 exam without doing any previous levels if you are sure you have the necessary skills. Good luck!
Your videos are extremely helpful! Thank you!
Thank you Lorde - glad you find them helpful! :)
How much time until we can learn level 1? like one year? two?
Hi Marco - that is a difficult question to answer as it depends on a lot of factors, like how long the student has been playing, how much time they spend practicing, their age, natural ability, etc. Your teacher, if you have one, might be better equipped to answer this question for you.
Thank you so much for your great job!!!
You're very welcome Susanna, glad you found it helpful!
Formula pattern skills seems so hard for level two students lol
Hi Jake, they seem hard at first but quickly become second nature. Once you memorize the pattern, you just apply it to all other scales!
How long is the practical exam? Is criteria the same for a virtual practical?
Hi there, sorry for the late reply! The length of the practical exam depends on the RCM level you are doing. Basically, the higher the level, the longer your exam will be. The RCM level 1 practical exam, for instance, can be as short as 20 mins, and it just goes up from there. And yes, the marking criteria is the same for both virtual and in-person exams.
Thank you SO MUCH! A much needed explanation!
Glad you found it helpful, Sofia!
it is so good that I found this out!Very helpful!
Hi, I have a question. Does student have to take theory exam starting level 5? Mandatory?
Hi Elisa, sorry - we had missed your question! That's right, starting in Level 5, theory examination becomes mandatory in addition to the practical examination if you want to get your comprehensive certificate!
@DaCapo: RCM is holding in-person piano exams for all levels again in 2022. Will they provide the Sughtseeing exercises 20~22 hours prior to the exam as has been their policy for remote exams? Or, will students have to wait for the actual exam time so they cannot prepare for it in advance?
Hey there, great question! For in-person exams, they will most likely do what they always did in the past, which is to give you the sightseeing material during the exam, right before you need to play it. They provided it earlier for remote exams for the sake saving time - it would have been difficult otherwise. Hope that helps and good luck!
7:51 Sonatina in A Minor (I) - A. Biehl
Really wish No Worries and Sunset in Rio got the same treatment as You And I, but we all have our preferences :)
Scamp was better! Play that swing :)
Sounds great & inspirational, thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it, David!
I'm amazed at the quality of those pieces. We are far from some dreadful pieces in the Alfred All-for-One for adults. I'm buying the book today.
Agreed, Michel!
Rcm 1 has some seriously beautiful pieces. I’m almost done with the book as a beginner and really enjoyed some of the songs.
Excellent! Just what I needed!
I am trying to play the The song of twilight! It my first song, this video also helped alot while practicing it thanks!
You're very welcome, Bella. Glad we could help!
Thats my favourite one in the rcm3 book, so far
Hi thank you for your kind and nice performance! During watching this clip several questions have made! 1) should the examinees only do need to collect all pieces from only these repertoires? Or is it possible to pick up from other materials(songs)? 2) is there any application provided to prepare the exam like ABRSM exam? As it is quite to hard to get those books here
You're welcome, Emma! 1) RCM allows you to substitute one piece from the Level 6 Repertoire with a piece from the Level 7 Repertoire, or you can substitute the List C piece with a Teacher's Choice option (the teacher can choose a song for you that's similar in difficulty). 2) We're not aware of an application that prepares students for the ABRSM exam, and it's unlikely that an application can even do that. You need a teacher for this! Hope that helps!
Thanks!
Which one is harder. Sonatina in G major, or Sonatina in F major? (Both list B)
Hi Alejandro, that is hard to say. The pieces in the same RCM level are generally very similar in difficulty, which is why they were selected for that particular level. If you're trying to choose what piece to learn, try to choose the one you like more, or one that uses a particular piano technique that you need to improve, in which case your teacher might be able to give you a helpful suggestion. Good luck with your practicing!
For the Clementi Sonatina in C Major I'm practicing the first movement already as part of an assignment. We only have to play one movement for List B I am assuming? So if I picked the Clementi piece I wouldn't have to play all 3 movements? Movement 1 is enough :) Thanks for the great videos. Very helpful!
That's right AE, you only need to play one of the three movements for your RCM exam. You are very welcome - we're happy you find our videos helpful!
Good Sir, well done.
Thank you, Timothy!
what was that song playing in the intro??
Hi Jasmin, you're the second person to ask that! It's a snippet from Mikhail Glinka's "Variations on a Russian Folk Song". Specifically, it's the beginning of the 4th Variation. You can find it in the RCM Level 9 Repertoire book. Hope that helps!
@@dacapoacademyofmusic I appreciate it thank you!
Practicing Harlequinade and I don't think I play lively enough, but I might if I was a little more confident with my finger positions. Eb is not a key I have much experience with so it's been tricky for me but I'll get there. This video helps. Thanks!
Glad you find the video helpful, Adam. Harlequinade is a great piece, just keep at it and yes, you'll get there!
