We are going to document our up's and downs of travelling, buying land, building a house and general living in Thailand....All useful and entertaining stuff.

Pre--House build, Buddhist ceremony, Hua Hin Thailand

A very traditional and important part of Buddhist culture is, blessing the first post of a house build. I have seen some blessings with 'no' monks and just the builder. We had 5 monks and the head monk, who is very revered and well known, we where very lucky.

How many cubic meters are in a load?
No such thing as CM as far as earth is concerned. It's a big truck or little truck in Thailand
Hi Dave, Great progress on the Land, We are on our land Hua Hin this week, do you know of anyone who can put some wire fencing & Posts in for us, All the best Martin Wi
Thank you. As you may know I did my fence myself. I can ask around for you, have a couple of contractors in mind. Can you give me details of your proposed fence. Cheers
@ Hi Dave, We are looking to put barbed wire 4 or 5 runs on concrete posts, temporarily until I get time to plan retaining wall as we are raising the ground by 1 metre, do you have the contact also for the ground people, they did a good job with raising yours👍
@@MrMartgolf th-cam.com/video/jZCSE9w8EZY/w-d-xo.html
@ I will see my builder tomorrow. Can I ask roughly how many meters.
@@Dave-and-Fon Thank you Dave, perimeter of land about 130 mtrs roughly
Hi Guys How Are You? Just Looking In On You Two.
We are both good thanks, Little or no time to ride though!!!! Take care Lawrence
Fascinating, first time for me seeing how some of these fruits grow, hope the pond surround works out 😊
It's amazing mate, been here 5 years and I still marvel at the wild life and trees. Yeah, fingers crossed on the grass planting, got plenty of water.... Cheers mate, stay toasty!
@@Dave-and-Fon It's hard staying warm, but I know spring is not far away, all the best.
@@BeansOnToast_YT Snowdrops, daffs and Hawthorne are out according to my old man!!!! 😎😎
@@Dave-and-Fon Yes I did hear so from my friend in Devon, I don't have any yet in London although the daffodil shots are showing.
It's amazing how fast plants can grow, nice to see some green, I live in Wisconsin about the northern middle of the states It's winter here not much green yet.
Thank you, Terry. Having a lake and a bore hole for water, is the key! It's winter here believe it or not and still 32*C.....Phew!
Wow. I wish I could have an orchard. That whole property is going to be paradise when it all grows in. I can't wait to see the end result. :)
Thanks Randy, certainly a bit better out my door!!!
@@Dave-and-Fon lol. I'll second that !!
No more videos? Be careful with advertisement, or to be blocked.
Can I ask you how much you paid for the fondation ?
I cannot say, but it was a very good price.
Happy to have found your channel. I've just bought half a rai between Hua Hin and Pranburi. Worked in property in the UK for years however no real clue where to start on building a house in Thailand.
Thanks. That's about my approx location
Hi, I'm looking for a builder. Does he speak English? He provides only the construction part or the designing/architectural aspect as well? Thank you!
As I said in the video, you will need a your Thai wife or other Thai to translate. He is not an architect, but can work from an architect plan. I designed and drew out plan for myself.
Noted. Thank you
Looks very solid, it ain't going anywhere.
Which part of the Uk are you from and where in Thailand are you living?
I come from the South of England, a southern softy. The clue to where I am in the video, is in the title....
@ ah yes I didn’t read the title I just watched the video, we got married in Hua Hin, we also live south uk (Colchester), we have land in Nakhon Sawan, we are back later this year to meet builders etc
@ No worries Daniel, great place to get married.
@ it was banyan the resort, I believe it’s changed its name now to terra villa village
@ Very nice. Banyan golf is now called Pineapple Valley
The tideness looks impressive, in deed.
🙏🙏
thanks for creating and sharing
🙏🙏
Well said. I've got a great bunch as well. Good luck. 🙏
Thank you.
Glad it's coming along 😊👍
Cheers mate
It is too early days to "Highly Recommend" your builders.
I've been in this line of work all my life, I can spot good and bad in minutes
@@Dave-and-Fon Thank you for interesting day in your project. Your work group is local in Hua HIn area, but are they doing working a bit further?
@@HePeNaTip Thank you. You would have to ask the builder, how far he is willing to travel. I think it would depend on the job and exactly how far. He comes from, HH airport area.
Coming along nicely mate.
Cheers mate
Looking good so far Dave, will you have a guest room 😁
Cheers mate, No guest room as such, more a junk room.
Extra land to get eaten alive by mosquitoes closer to the mosquito farm.
Do you plan on putting fish in the pond, the pond looks good for fish or is it just for watering the plants.
It already has a lot fish from the previous owner. I have caught one or two, some are good eating, some are not!! Cheers Terry
Looks like we are doing the same work at the moment.
Touche, good luck
Just subbed you
Hey Dave and Fon, congratulations we would be happy when our building project would have achieved this level. I think the concrete slab and the tiny rebar is to weak. When the soil under the slab will sink, the concrete plate will hang free or not? What do you think?
It'll be Ok, I'm satisfied.
Attach the rotavator as rear weights. You could push more earth with less wheel spinning!
That would work, but the rotavator is fixed Japanese style and I have converted the rear linkage to Universal 3 point linkage
Hi there how much for concrete all done and wire mesh thanks regards vince
Nice, watch like a Hawk. Unless someone else is paying. Hahaha
Myself and the builders are very conscientious, regardless. It's called pride in your work.
Lovely to watch, I think we all have our favorite long straight edge 😊
Thanks mate, this is far removed from the over regulated, building in the UK, very refreshing. I like a nice curve.....😎
I think you are missing rear weight.
That would be handy, easy to make with concrete
Hi Dave. Look like the slab of base concrete too thin. you think so?
In the past I have laid acres of concrete. The slab layer does not need to be super thick, it is for foot traffic and not vehicles. I am not worried at all, 75-100mm is plenty. Cheers Andy
Looks good . Good plan
Thanks Lee
How come they didn't get cement burns on there feet, or did they 😮
Looks like the guard dog been promoted to inspector as well as guard dog .give that dog a raise 😂
Haha yes, he is an excellent guard dog. He barks and looks aggressive with strangers, but does not bite.
Beautiful ceremony. Best luck with your home build and your future in Thailand. Happy New Year. My thai wife and I will be building our dream home in Buriram in another 10 years or so.
Thank you very much for your kind words. Good luck to you both
Thank you for the information 👍 That’s a Great idea, I want to build something similar, as a base when I have a house built
Thanks for your comment. I have now built a toilet on the side. Can live in it, no problem. I use it for a man cave and storage, while the house is being built. Big change since this video.
@ Thank you Dave 👍 I have caught up and watched your most recent vlog of the concrete pour, great job your builders are doing, we have bought a piece of land Thap Dai, by the Immigration Centre outside of Hua Hin, so I am watching your build with Great Interest, Thank you Martin &Wi
@@MrMartgolf Cheers Martin and Wi, I can tell you, if you need a builder this guy is fantastic. I here so many horror stories of rubbish builders, I lucked out.
What size is your land and how many sq meters is your house going to be?
thanks for creating and sharing
Thanks for your kind comment
Looking great so far.. Well done.. 😊
Thanks Gordon, all still going well and at pace!!!
Hope you had a great New Year’s Eve ,,nothing wrong in blessing your home.
Thanks Keith, HNY to you
We wish you a good start in the new year. We will follow your building proceeding. Tom & N
Thank you Tom, HNY to you.
This is incredible. I discovered Thailand and the culture last January and have watched videos like this and know there is a much better life outside the USA. Great Video and you captured it very respectfully and with honor. A+ 😇
Thanks for your kind comment. HNY
I believe its important to do the traditional things when someone is in a different country. It shows respect.
Exactly, I was happy to do it and I feel blessed.
@@Dave-and-Fon I couldn't agree more. Thank you for your interesting videos.
@@HePeNaTip 🙏🙏
A personal house warming. How interesting. Should be a productive 2025. Cheers !!
It's a very traditional ceremony and very important for Thai's. I loved it, great experience and I feel blessed. Cheers Randy, all the best for 2025
I recently put in a concrete windowsill on a Victorian house with some matching corbels. I opted for using fibres in the concrete mix instead of rebar, I was chuffed how it turned out. Got asked by a couple of neighbours if I would work on their houses, poor things struggle in London to get any building work done.
I've used fibre cement before, it is good for certain applications. Certainly, wouldn't use fibre cement for a Lintel, but a sill perfect. Later in my build I'll get these guys to make concrete kitchen units, and worktop, popular here with tiles on the top. I'm surprised there are any builders left in London and travelling in is an expensive pain... Thanks for watching, mate and a HNY.
@@Dave-and-Fon Oh I weirdly enjoy watching this sort of thing. I once put tiled a kitchen worktop in a country place, had to use epoxy grout. It's not a surface I'd used because of the cleaning. Polished concrete work tops look nice though.
How much you paying the guard dog 🐕 😂
Haha.....He's a distant neighbours dog that was born under our Mango tree. It is his birth place and stopping ground. Great dog
thanks for creating and sharing looking for more vlogs of you
Thanks for you support and kind words
Hey Fon and Dave, the soil and filling looks similar to our land, in which area you are building. We started for planning a new villa in HinLekFai.
Hi, we are in the Wang Pong area
Which architect and builder you selected? Any idea to exchange contact data?
@@TomF-w1k I didn't use an architect and the builder is a family friend. I keep a close eye on everything and have a good relationship with all the guys on site. The builders contact details are on the back of his shirt.
Always nice to follow you videos. 👍 Thank you! 🙏 I am trying to learn things to building my house next year.
Well, thank you.
