Awesome engine and awesome sound. Did you have to do any work to the rods with that Howard camshaft?. I am in the process of building a 383 now .
Used stroker rods, installed cam straight up. did not change degree, it was where it need to be according to cam card
About what rpm there at idle?
Around 650
That's the cam I want. Will it work on my vortec 5.7?
should
I like a cam better with with a little more Cam to it. But still able to tow RV over a pass.
Is it going in a corvette?
Could you give me the cams manufacturer and specs
Have a 350'and bought a comp cam 470/470 270H I can't wait to put it in.

it is verry hard to obtaine the factory HP from a 327ci ingine rated at 11.1 compression not likely barly 10.1 i have built a 327CI it must be decked to get the piston to the top the 3.25 strock does not have much time to build compression the cam plays a part also cumbustion chamber size. it can be done. check the compression cranking minimum 180 psi with a small dome piston. 64 chamber. 202 valves 160. GM used a 780 cfm carb.
Put this engine in a 55 chevy that ran very strong, not exactly sure of the hp but the seat of my pants was impressed.
Whats wrong with it.
Bit of focus
This was a retro fit cam right
Yes
Great sound..
Nice. I ordered the same cam for my 383 engine project, so it's great to get a preview of the end product.
... the Duntov 30/30 solid lifter cam was the bomb ...! Mike
Total pinko communism
Very nice
Who the hell cares about this bucket if chicken antique engine? Why does UT put this crap on my feed?
Similar to the Isky 280 mega cam. Not some stage xx thing lol Work great in about any sbc
280 Isky Mega w/ small cubes is a fun cam.
@@hackertheslacker Agree. 327 or 350 they had a hard midrange hit and daily driveable. Had other brands of the 280 none of them performed as good
@@gordocarbo lsa 108 👍
Sounds like mean little bastard.
All that motor needs is a set of wheels makes me want to ride just hearing it thank you❤
What is the RPM range of this cam?
I believe it is 1000 to 4800
what kind of vacuum was you getting with this cam?
Around 12 inches if I remember correctly
Sounds great.
Hi do u know the part number on your headers? looks like they fit the stock plugs nice.
They are some shorty headers that I bought about 12 years ago for the run stand. I do not remember the part number.
What brand cam and lifters did you install?
Probably Elgin or Melling, do not remember
How much horsepower did it make?
Just a guess but it should be between 475 and 500
@@jeffphillips6063 I have that same cam going into my 383 stroker right now. It’s bored .40 over with blueprint aluminum heads.
@@jeffphillips6063 that’s why I asked
What's it idle set at
750 rpm
Glad to hear the cam got the same cam for my 355 s10
Sounds like a Tuorqey combo from the thumbnail.
How much hp and torque? I'm building one now going to use that same setup..ran the 360 before stroked made 300 rear wheel power...370 is at the crank with summit 170cc heads.....looking to make high 490.-.515..with brodix aluminum 215cc heads same bottom end setup as yours with cam..750hp carb.
I have this same cam in my 85 vette with some headman long tubes and muffler delete and I have to say yours sounds better, I can hear a little bit more lope ,I am wondering if I need to add some mufflers.
I put the step nose version of this cam on a 112 lsa in my 10.1:1 roller block 350 with promaxx 183 heads. Hoping it sends my 74 nova w/ tremec 5 speed & 3.73 gears into the mid 12's.
Sounds wicked! How much vacuum did it pull at idle?
I can't remember, it's been a while back
I clicked the video because it said 270 comp cam, and that's what I put in my sbc rebuild. It sounds exactly like my '64 Impala did! When I bought the car it had a tired, low compression 400 in it. I got a friend to rebuild it, and I did some reading (no internet back then) and chose a 270 comp cams unit. Unfortunately with the low compression, probably 8-8.3:1 it was a bit too much cam. To exacerbate things, after reading about carb sizing in Hot Rod magazine, I knew I needed a 600 cfm carb. (Max) My cousin with the speed shop convinced me to get a 750 instead, as he'd built lots of high performance 350s and installed 750s on them. Big mistake. I ordered a 750 Edelbrock Performer and the tuning kit, and spent lots of time playing around with it. Nice carb to tune, but I couldn't get it to stop bogging and nearly dying every time I started from a stop. That engine wants to make torque from idle to 4,000 and the cam wants to come on from 2,500 to 6,500. That, plus the big carb, every start was a pain, but once I was moving she performed better, and once the revs hit about 3,200 she pulled like crazy till around 4,500 where it sounded like it was going to blow apart! It beat my brother's '67 Monaco with the stock 440 Magnum. I'm sure it was making over 400 hp, but the drivability sucked. I wish I'd spent some money on high compression pistons and left the Offenhauser intake instead of wasting money on the Edelbrock Performer intake. Live and learn.
You had something else going on I used the same cam in a tired 1975 350 nova performer rpm intake headers 256 peg leg and quadrant and had sb400s gt mustangs scared to race me, I loved that cam and for a daily driver would choose it over a magnum 280-286 any day.😎
Ever dyno this setup?
Can anyone confirm this is the factory style cam with the stepped nose that uses the cam plate? Manufacturers seem to love to leave that out of their descriptions
Yes. Probably too late😢
Oh man that sounds nice!!! Thank you for rhe video also. Putting same cam, ( in factory roller form 180245-10) and wondering your compression ratio and gas used? I should land somewhere around 10.3:1 i think with Vortec heads and want to get as much real world info as possible on what octane i may be to use safely. Ballpark estimates of course.
You should be fine on 91-93 octane
compression is approx. 10.2 running on 93 octane
How would this setup work with a stock torque converter in a Chevelle, say 3.36 rear gears? Thanks!
HEALTHY! -b
Smoking oil bad
What brands of headers you used. Thanks
That's some sweet sweet music to my ears . Those 406s are one wicked engine
where did you get the heads sounds great
Get rid of the HEI distributor, put an MSD ready to run in its place... better response, better timing curve, easily set up...HEI is the WORST Timing curve, non accurate distribtor in existence...... its only used cuz it DOES have spark power.....but to set the curve properly, its an absolute nitemare......my shop, routinely gets rid of the HEI, for the MSD, and the customer ALWAYS rants about how good the motor responds.......HEI, was good in the 80's, but now we have an easier, tuneable distributor.......no brainer.......NO HEI , will EVER compete with an MSD ready to run, with ease of tune.. it just cant be........HEI was good in 85, in 2021, an MSD ready to run is a NO BRAINER!!.......just sayin, and i liked the motor...(cam sounds good)
wat kinda hp?
got a question for u my brother....i got 1990 k5 blazer 5.7 just got the enging rebuild still have the swirl port heads on it and its pretty mush stock i have high perfomace intake im eliminating the computing trying to make my mine up if im going to go with a carb or some efi sniper..i have 700r4 trans and 4.10 gears and up graded my torque convert to a 2000 to 2400 stall ..it has a up grade cam in it howard cams ratter 188005-09 lift .525/530 and duration .050 ; 227/235 centerline 103 i want to no is that a good cam to go with them swirl port heads and would i be able to hear the cam..i dont no to mush about cams..i no the vortec or aluminum heads would have been better but the engine was already build already..i do have headers 3 inche pipes all the way back
Your cam lifts are a bit bigger then mine and tighter lobes but shorter duration so you should be able to have great chop at low rpms. My rattler cam is the 297/305 with .507/.495 lift with 700R4 3000 stall converter with 9.5 compression and it sounds awsome. Hope you got what you wanted
@@Texasmule His truck wont go anywhere or stay running in gear with those rattler cams esp with TBI
Nice clean running 400ci!
Sadly Chinas Boss Darth Xi told all politicians that PRC will stop any business with underdeveloped countries still allowing CO2 emitting traffic, aircrafts, motorsport or industry after 2030...I am sure USA and UK also will be forced by China to 100% electric traffic because today no industrialized country can afford sanctions by China....:-( China also banned all kind of synthetic fuels or hydrogen combustion. Because these are not energy efficient)
Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station fuel pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called "Abgasbespaßungsverbots- und Kontrollverordnung" in German.
Well... that kind of abuse is soviet like, which means when it's survival time... hello black market.
