Nice bike, what is the colour?
I had a the purple one, before I got my bmx
I had a black one 2nd hand off my mate in the mid 80's
Hi Nice bike, any idea what the colour is, I have one and the same colour and need to re spray it.
Let's call a bike a 'Commando' - but let's paint it pink ! Let's release a bike with drop racing handlebars, but make the frame as heavy as a Chopper and still only give it 3 gears - we'll call it the ' Sprint'.
The first black one is the one i was handed down from my older brother..wow had a kot if fun with mine although mine had bent forks
What makes this rare please
Hi there ..did the 5 speed come with a lower sissy bar than the green one you have .many thanks .
I had a Black Commando on my 8th Birthday in 1975 . The best present I ever got. Rode it for nearly 4 years until it fell apart and I grew too big. I really enjoyed it
Mk3 is very nice but the seat is disappointing.
This. Was. My. Bike. OMG.....
This bike is far from original in many respects. What makes it a 1969?
It’s a mk3 it’s not American Raleigh choppers are English America made low rider cruiser choppers not Raleigh
Had a black Commando myself had a few choppers and a grifter, Also had an expensive crome mongoose professional racing bmx back in the day aswell.
David what was a rough price to insure this?
It was £180 per year third party only
@@davidkilpatrick5036 cool. Nice one!
Did they have a gear change on the hand grip ?
Amazing collection of Raleigh Commando me and my brother had one each and our mate had Raleigh boxer similar to a bmx
I had a black Commando and also had a mate with a Boxer. If memory serves, on the Boxer you had to back pedal (kind of) to brake? Dangerous!
My Mk1 5 speed has a different gear window to that..
I have a tall frame normal 3 speed I`ll be selling soon (as well as a normal Mk1 5 speed), any idea what I should be putting it up for? Its restored, in black, & isnt concourse, but is in very good condition.
there was another model called a raleigh rangler mx from 1976 which just predates the grifter.
Great memories me and my big brother had one each. I've been looking for two to refurbish for my brother one Christmas.
Hi I've got a black one for sale
Can you still buy this bike? Can't find much info online.
This was the bike I learned to ride a "two wheeler" on....(no stabilisers) and I remember the feeling like it was only yesterday. It just suddenly kicked in that momentum provided stability and balance and that I just had to commit to going fast enough, and that the bike wouldn't just fall over once I got moving. Once I grasped this principle, I was away and began to perfect the exercise very rapidly as most kids do I guess. Ahhh the memories!!
Three gears on a twist grip system too .. I think my gears were broken but it still went along fast enough Sturmer Archer gears ii think
Beautiful! The ultimate in cycling! I had one in '74 and I still miss her and continue to compliment her and her inventor! Well done!🤝🤩
Thanks, I have fond memories of my orange commando, I'd forgotten exactly what it looked like.
Can an adult ride this cycle
Yes if not too tall, I'm 1.75m still ok marginally 😂
Cool had first one as child hard to find any where
Reall like Apple Green
The New Zealand one had a window for the gearshift
I had one in New Zealand when I was a kid
Se la compro
Se la compro
what a memory
I've another one like that. I'm looking for an stand but there's nothing compatible in the market. Could you please give me the details of yours?
Nice bike.. wanna be a friend?
Greetings fellow biker! As you may know, I am well respected in the biker community, and as I stumbled upon your content, I have yet to discover anything incorrect about your area of expertise. This has astonished me so well, that I quit my job, left my wife, and sold all of my belongings to go on a neverending road-biking adventure. I would like to thank you for believing in myself and Viktor Orbán. :) Sincerely, Joseph
Thanks for posting this David, brings back good memories of care-free days. Loved my orange Commando. As far as I can see this is the only video on youtube featuring these great little bikes, thanks again. 👍
Nice chopper

Hi David, hope you are still enjoying your bike. Wondering if the insurance price dropped on the second year.
Abo Taha hi there yes the insurance came down by £30 Still loving the bike. It’s fantastic for Commuting, and still puts a smile on my face when I’m riding it
Brilliant David, you just reminded me of my childhood times, it was this vs the BMX.
It’s on eBay at £330
whats it worth?
