A sad decline for a once flagship pub
This Wesleyan chapel was built in 1840 and could seat up to 900 worshippers at once. The building continued to be used as a place of worship until 2006 when it was closed and the building bought by the Wetherspoons pub chain.
Having spent £1m in renovating the site, the Chapel an Gansblydhen opened as a pub in 2008, with Wetherspoons stating that it would be one of their flagship establishments. By 2019 the site was set to close again, after Wetherspoons put it up for sale. Intervention by locals saw the pub taken off the market before finally being sold to the DND Group pub chain in early 2023.
By the end of 2023 the pub closed again and is back on the market "offers invited" www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/141066890#/?channel=COM_BUY

This Hill Was Home To Giants
มุมมอง 619 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Trencrom Hill, near Hayle, was home to giants. In particular, Trencrom hill was home to Trecobben. Legend says that he was friends with the giant of St Michael's Mount - Cormoran. The two giants liked nothing better than to throw a rock hammer from one hill to another. Each would catch the massive hammer, work on the stones of their mount and then throw it back. One fateful day, however, when t...
The Church that's older than it looks
มุมมอง 5316 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
The church in Lanivet was thought to date back to the 15th century, but a recent archeological dig at the site has shown that parts of the church coud date back as far as the 12th century. A Grade 1 listed historic church follows the traditional Cornish plan for a village church, with three main aisles and a western tower. If you would like to support this church, you can donate at www.bodminwa...

Steam Traction Engines through the village
มุมมอง 5314 วันที่ผ่านมา
When hearing the approach of a traction engine to your house, you have to drop everything and get the drone in the air - well I do, anyway. Precursers to tractors and lorries, the steam powered traction engine used to be a common sight around the UK. Now they are more a curiousity and frequent attraction at rural fairs and steam rallies. The Mine Engine House that Nature Reclaimed
มุมมอง 8021 วันที่ผ่านมา
The engine house for Jope's Shaft is the best preserved example of the South Caradon mining district. Now covered in ivy, nestled among trees, the engine house seems to emerge from nature itself. The shaft underneath the engine house was opened in the 1850s, with the engine house opening a decade later. The mine closed in 1885 during the decline of Cornish mining - many of those who would have ...
What's left of the China Clay mines that once dominated the industry?
มุมมอง 11821 วันที่ผ่านมา
The china clay mines in the centre of Cornwall once dominated the global industry for the material. Cornish china clay could be found in a variety of products, from the glossy surface on photographic paper to ingredients in toothpaste and skincare creams. The chances that you have used Cornish china clay without realising is very high. Since the 1990s, when the pits employed over 4000 people, a...

Wheal Jenkin began operating in 1824, starting with shallow shafts and adits. The works expanded in the 1830s with the introduction of a steam powered pump before closing in 1837 due to low tin yields. In 1872 the mine opened again with Whim Shaft, later named Bellingham shaft in 1881, but had closed in 1890 after failing to make any significant profit. buymeacoffee.com/stufliesaroundcornwall

What a shame. It would make a beautiful house for someone with the money 💰 Great video 👌
Thank you for your kind words. You’re right - it would make a great house in the middle of the town. 👍
Hi Stu cracking video from a great part of the UK.👍👍.
Thanks Steve. It’s great around the area - so much to see
Stunning footage 👌 Beautifully captured and flown ❤
Thank you. ☺️ it’s one of my favourite places to fly and this mine has always intrigued me. You used to be able to crawl from under the chimney, underground, to the floor of the engine house.
Nice video ; thx for sharing
Thank you. ☺️
Stunning views and great flying skills. 👏👏👏
Thank you. ☺️ I would have liked to add a small Orbit around the stones on the top, but didn’t want to disturb people’s day out more than I had to
@@StuFliesAroundCornwall Totally agree 👍
Great views 👌
Thanks mate. 👍
Stunning landscape. Nice video.
Thanks Col. ☺️
if I let my imagination roam.." if this is not a hillfort then it predates the hillforts we find in Wiltshire and if so Giants make sense as a dangerous tribe that once lived here..which then through myth made it known as "The Hill that was home to giants" nice video my friend!!
Thank you for your kind words. There is a hillfort on the site according to the National Trust, so your theory may be based in reality.
Great video. Looks a beautiful place.
Thanks Simon. It truly is a magical part of Cornwall, steeped in mythology.
Cool video views look awesome
Thank you. It’s well worth a visit. 👍

A grand church - so tall !!
It’s definitely taller than some. It’s amazing to think about how they would have built it without cranes

Thank you. ☺️ it’s one of my favourite places to fly - so much to explore

Lovely footage with great music 💪💪
Thank you. I was a bit unsure of the music at first, but it definitely grew on me and seems to fit the subject well
Loved it, so nice to see the old tractors and that they are kept in good running order.
Thanks David. I’d have loved to have filmed them from above, but had promised the event that I wouldn’t fly over the site
Awesome!!!! ❤
Thank you. ☺️
Cool Stu some right old tractors there. Time lapse was great so much movement 👏👏🎥👍
Thanks Jim. First time I’d tried a hyperlapse properly - would have been good to get some of the set up.
I have a few shots like this but haven’t uploaded them yet, good footage, just subbed 👍
Thank you for your support. I really enjoyed managed to actually capture a tractor working and am hoping to get many more.

Great stuff, one of my favourite subjects, Farming machines.
Thanks David. I’ve been trying to get one on film for months - which is strange seeing as I live right next to a farm. 🤣
@@StuFliesAroundCornwall Same as me, I just wait for the tractor to drive out in front of my house then put the drone up.
Nice one. 👍 Love it
Thank you. It was one of those completely unplanned opportunities between two other completely unplanned opportunities. 🤣
