Well.... they were going about 212.809 average lap speeds ( Bill Elliott ) at superspeedways nearly 40 years ago and NASCAR decided to slow them down by putting restrictor plates on the engine carburetors to choke off the flow of air/fuel. I think they were pushing close to 230 MPH down the straightaways thst long ago, but they will never go that fast again and perhaps even slower with the liberal left loonies push for battery powered electric ( motor )sports powered vehicles and hopefully not rubberband powered Daytona 500/Indy 500 races.

Bill Elliott averaged 215.809 for a lap in his Ford Thunderbird way back in the 1980's at Talladega Speedway before they put restrictor plates on the carburetors. He was probably moving near 250 MPH down the backstretch straitaways. Imagine how fast they would be going today without restrictor plates.

at michigan in 2014 they were going upwards of 225+ with the high down force package. unrestricted at Daytona and talladega they would go 240+

I wish if there was an actual answer. Like an actual speed for each car. But this is cool also.
